It’s Time for Sports Leagues to Allow Marijuana

Josh-Gordon-Cleveland-Browns-NFL-marijuana-suspensionIt looks like Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon’s NFL career could be over…all because of marijuana. It could cost him tens of millions of dollars in future earnings.

Gordon was busted by the NFL for having a diluted urine sample, which the NFL considers as a failed drug test. He missed a portion of the 2014 season and the entire 2015 season due to marijuana-related suspensions. He also had issues in college stemming from his marijuana use, like falling asleep in a Taco Bell drive-through lane as a sophomore.

Many will look at Gordon as someone without self-control or someone that has shown signs of being an addict. It’s a fair assumption since he’s been disciplined numerous times since college for smoking weed.

Another Year, Another Boring NBA Trade Deadline

Lance Stephenson trade memphis grizzlies los angeles clippers NBA trade deadlineI’m not sure why I always feel a rush of anticipation when the NBA trade deadline approaches.

We hear all these juicy rumors of big names being shopped around and more times than not, the deals never materialize.

In the days approaching Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, we heard names like Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin and Kevin Love being discussed in mega-trades. Those guys are still with their original teams and guys like Chu Chu Maduabum, who isn’t even employed anywhere in the world right now, were involved in trades.

We breakdown the few trades of note that took place at the trade deadline and the few days before.

Chris Bosh’s Season Might Be Over

Chris Bosh blood clots Miami Heat 2016Chris Bosh sat out NBA All-Star Weekend, but did travel to attend events in Toronto. He seemed in good spirits, but there must have been a cloud hanging over his head.

Bosh is officially listed as being out with a strained calf. There’s usually no red flag associated with such a minor injury. Well, there could be more to this injury.

The rumor coming out of All-Star Weekend is that Bosh is once again dealing with a very serious blood clot issue. It was almost exactly a year ago that doctors found blood clots in one of his lungs last season.

Bosh missed the remainder of the 2014-15 season. His season this year could as well be over if doctors find more blood clots in the power forward. Blood clots are serious and could have life-altering effects.

Are James Harden’s Feet Worth $200 Million?

James Harden feet funnyHouston Rockets guard James Harden is currently the hottest free agent on the market…let me rephrase that, his feet are the hottest free agents on the market. His deal with Nike expired and it is rumored that a 13-year/$200 million contract to the bearded basketball player.

It’s an insane amount of money just to advertise on a player’s feet. I could see LeBron, Durant, Kobe and a few other elite players, but I don’t believe Harden is in the same category as those players. I don’t see a Harden signature shoe flying off the shelves.

I understand Adidas has to overpay basketball talent to wear their shoes, since Nike is ‘cooler’, but shouldn’t they just roll the dice and sign a bunch of up & coming rookies hoping one or two of them get crazy popular?

Every NBA Free Agency Signing (So Far)

Rajon Rondo Sacramento Kings 2015 NBA Free AgencyWe’ve previously explained the NBA moratorium period when we discussed the messy DeAndre Jordan contract situation. It is now over and NBA free agents are able to officially sign their new contracts.

There have been a plethora of trades including guys like Roy Hibbert, Lance Stephenson and Luke Ridnour (many times), but we are only covering the free agent signings that have been reported so far.

The only huge free agent news so far has been centered around LaMarcus Aldridge’s big decision and DeAndre Jordan’s blunder. Those guys are getting all the press, but a ton of talent that has already changed hands.

(I hope you enjoy our ‘awesome’ MS Paint edit of Rajon Rondo.)

DeAndre Jordan Reneges Mavs Deal, Re-Signs with Clippers

Sad Mark Cuban Dallas Mavericks DeAndre JordanJust a few days ago, the Dallas Mavericks thought they had an NBA title-worthy roster. They got a verbal agreement from center DeAndre Jordan that he would sign a four-year/$80 million max contract. They also signed Wesley Matthews to a healthy contract.

Well, before you start looking at NBA betting lines, things went bad in a hurry for Dallas.

DeAndre Jordan started having cold feet about leaving the Clippers. He met with Blake Griffin and then a few other Clippers joined him (Chris Paul even ended his vacation early). They stayed with him until 12:01 am Thursday morning, the minute he was able to officially sign a new deal.

Why couldn’t Jordan sign before Thursday morning?

It’s Okay to be Happy about the Roy Hibbert Trade

roy hibbert funny indiana pacers tradeI’ve been an Indiana Pacers fan as long as I can remember. It was great during the Reggie Miller years, but after the ‘Malice at the Palace’, it became really difficult. Not only is your favorite team look at as ‘thugs’, but the years after it was just a mess.

After years of drafting ‘high character’ guys and signing ‘safe’ players, things finally turned around for the Pacers when they were lucky enough to draft Roy Hibbert, Paul George and Lance Stephenson. Things didn’t work out with Lance in the long-term, but there was hope for George and Hibbert to be a part of the team for a long time.

Well, everything went bad in a hurry.

Some of the top draft picks in Orlando are Frank Kaminsky, Myles Turner, Stanley Johnson, Justise Winslow and Mario Hezonja.

Are the Lakers Planning a Big Move this Offseason?

kobe bryant los angeles lakers lamarcus aldridge nba demarcus cousins kevin love goran dragicThe Los Angeles Lakers were an embarrassment last season. After major injuries to Julius Randle and Kobe Bryant, the roster was full of D-League talent and aging veterans. If you pay close attention to sports betting odds, the current outlook for next season doesn’t look great either.

The Lakers are not used to being in this position. They always just restock instead of doing a long-term rebuild. Kobe doesn’t have much time left, so he is certainly in management’s ear in hopes of winning one more title to tie Michael Jordan’s ring count.

They are now trying to free up enough cap space to make a run at some of this offseason’s top free agents. They gained $9 million more by declining Jordan Hill’s team option.

Which free agents are the Lakers targeting this Summer?

2015 NBA Draft: Best Undrafted Players

2015 NBA Draft undrafted players brett comer florida gulf coastThe NBA Draft is only 60 picks, so many players fall through the cracks…especially in a year in which a draft is deep.

The 2015 NBA Draft wasn’t the deepest draft in recent memory, but that doesn’t mean every potential NBA player was all drafted. It’s not the end of the road for these players. They will just need to work a little harder to attain their dream.

Many of these guys will be signed to play in the NBA Summer League. They can showcase their skills in hopes of earning a invite to training camp. Unfortunately for most, they will end up playing overseas or in the NBA Development League. There are still a few every year that surprise everybody and beat the odds to earn an NBA contract.

Here are the best college and international players who went undrafted during the 2015 NBA Draft.

Cleveland Early Favorite to Win 2016 NBA Finals

LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers 2016 NBA FinalsThe Golden State Warriors just won the 2015 NBA Finals and top sports betting sites already released future odds on which NBA team will win the 2016 NBA Finals.

LeBron James nearly single-handedly forced a Game 7 in a series in which the Cavs didn’t have anyone left but LeBron from their opening night starting lineup.

Cleveland (3/1) is the early favorite to win next year’s NBA Finals, but a lot can happen in a year. The Cavs have nearly everyone coming back and maybe next time around they will all be healthy.

Some of the other teams near the top are Golden State (5/1), Oklahoma City (7/1), Chicago (10/1), San Antonio (10/1) and Los Angeles Clippers (10/1).

Are there any dark horse teams that could contend for the 2016 NBA Finals?

Lance Stephenson traded to Clippers

Lance Stephenson Charlotte Hornets trade Los Angeles Clipper funny NBAAs a long-time Lance Stephenson fan, I hated to see his playing time cut in his first season in Charlotte. He left the Indiana Pacers and signed a 3-year/$27 million contract with them last Summer.

Well, his stay in Charlotte was a brief one. The Hornets traded Stephenson to the Los Angeles Clippers for Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.

The eccentric guard lead the league in triple-doubles in 2013-14 with Indiana, but only started 25 games in Charlotte last season. He fell into coach Steve Clifford’s doghouse for his selfish play (and random tomfoolery).

The Clippers are a perennial contender in the Western Conference. What does the addition of Stephenson mean for the Clippers this offseason?
