Could the Hornets trade Lance Stephenson?

As many of you know, I’ve been a vocal fan of Lance Stephenson since he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers. I would champion his skills and wonder why he was sitting at the end of the bench. He then took Dahntay Jones’ spot and went on to fill-in for an injured Danny Granger. He took advantage of the opportunity and should have been an All-Star last season.

Stephenson left Indiana and signed a nice deal with the Charlotte Hornets. He hasn’t quite fit in with Charlotte and they find themselves near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Michael Jordan did not expect last year’s 7th seed to fail this bad.

On December 15th, NBA teams can officially trade players they signed this offseason. With all the drama surrounding the situation in Charlotte, could Stephenson have a new home before the end of the calendar year?

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: December 2014

It’s the last month of 2014 (that was weird to type). It was a pretty memorable year in music, but the only album to exceed one million albums sold was Taylor Swift’s new album (sorry music industry). It’s unfortunate because a ton of awesome music was released. People intake music in different ways, but mostly it’s via torrent.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Richard Marx or Ace of Base (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

Here are 15 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. All of the songs are fresh and most have only been released within the last two months.

Will ‘The New Day’ Succeed in WWE?

WWE hasn’t had much luck recently debuting characters after a lengthy series of vignettes. The string of recent failures can be traced back to Brodus Clay’s re-debut as the Funkasaurus, the laughable ‘Lord Tensai’ debut and let’s not forget Fandango’s debut (his entrance music was more ‘over’ than him). It might be a bit too early to label Bo Dallas and Adam Rose as busts, but it has been months and they have yet to gain traction.

Yes, there have been some successes, with The Wyatt Family being the biggest, but it isn’t always the performers’ fault.

Have vignettes lost their appeal? Will The New Day continue the string of failures?

2014 NFL Week 13 – Betting Picks Against Spread

After dominating the previous week, I broke even at 7-7-1 last week. I had three close misses, but still feel like I made smart picks in those three close non-winners. I now sit at 90-81-4 with my NFL picks against the spread this season.

I do have to pat my back a bit by picking Oakland last week. I even mentioned that Latavius Murray would have a big game.

There are some awesome games lined up this week. There is only one double-digit point spread this week. I can’t wait to dive into a turkey, watch football, dive into turkey leftovers on Sunday and continue watching football.

I had a decent year betting against the spread in the NFL last season (133-95-10). Any year you hit nearly 60% of the NFL games against the spread is a damn good year. Let’s hope my win percentage is near that this season.

2014 NCAA Football – Week 14 Betting Picks Against Spread

I felt like my picks were better than 11-9 last week. Some poor, late-game decisions were the difference between having a good week and having an 11-9 week. My record is now 131-105-3 on the season.

It’s rivalry week! Alabama/Auburn, Ohio State/Michigan, Florida/Florida State and…the Egg Bowl. Yes, Ole Miss/Mississippi State means something this year. I expect a fun week of college football. I picked a lot of favorites this week, but I’m not worried.

We were 134-79-8 against the spread betting on college football games last season. We hope to keep it going and help you guys out again this season.

Richard Sherman Mocks NFL During Fake Press Conference [VIDEO]

The Red Sox Will Regret Overspending for Pablo Sandoval

The Boston Red Sox opened their checkbook and signed shortstop Hanley Ramirez (who they will turn into a left fielder) and World Series MVP third baseman Pablo Sandoval. Ramirez received a four-year deal worth $88 million and Sandoval is walking away with a five-year deal worth $95 million (with a sixth-year team option for $17 million).

Sandoval’s post-season success is the reason teams were hoping to land ‘Kung Fu Panda’. He’s a career .343 in the post-season with a .400+ batting average in the World Series…the best in baseball history with at least 150 postseason at-bats.

Sandoval is a nice asset to have in the playoffs, but is he worth $95 million on team who drastically needs pitching?

‘The Authority’ Storyline Was A Failure for WWE

I’ve been a fan of pro wrestling as long as I can remember. I love the WWE, but I always root for startup wrestling promotions to do well. No one will ever match WWE’s marketshare, but competition breeds creativity. WWE definitely needs to be pushed.

The WWE has pushed a storyline around Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. The duo call themselves ‘The Authority’ and have been running the company with an iron fist. The storyline officially came into fruition on August 18th, 2013, the night of Summerslam. Triple H caused Daniel Bryan to lose the WWE title to Randy Orton.

The storyline lasted 14 months and will historically be seen as a failure…but it wasn’t completely their fault.

We’ve written a handful of ‘Sports Crush‘ posts since we launched America’s White Boy. We’ve spotlighted female MMA fighters, WWE Divas and female sports reporters like MLB Network’s Heidi Watney, ESPN’s Britt McHenry and NFL Network’s Erin Coscarelli. We decided to profile another female sports reporter, current FOX sports sideline reporter Jen Hale.

You can see Jen Hale every Sunday during NFL on FOX broadcasts as a sideline reporter and during New Orleans Pelicans telecasts on Fox Sports New Orleans.

She was a cheerleader at LSU and then went to Northwestern to earn her Master’s degree in broadcast journalism. She has a huge brain behind that smile.

2014 NFL Week 12 – Betting Picks Against Spread

The stars aligned last week and I went 9-4-1. I felt confident and knew I would do pretty well. I now sit at 83-74-3 with my NFL picks against the spread this season.

There are some potential blowouts on the schedule this week. I wish that wasn’t the case. I get no fun out of betting double-digit points spreads. I’d rather not root for a boring game.

I had an up & down week. I went 10-10, but hit on a couple moneyline underdogs. I didn’t foresee the Melvin Gordon’s record day or I would have picked Wisconsin over Nebraska. My record is now 120-96-3 on the season.

Snow blanketed many parts of the Midwest and Northeast this week. Those areas are expected to thaw out and shouldn’t be huge problems. Please keep an eye on weather forecasts in case weather patterns shift.

Could Mayweather vs Pacquiao Happen in 2015?

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum just threw gasoline on a fire many thought had flamed out long ago. He said that talks between CBS/Showtime and HBO have taken place to get the ball rolling on a long-awaited fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Arum was tight-lipped about specifics, but did say that if the fight does happen, they are considering Cowboys Stadium. HBO and Showtime haven’t come together on a deal since 2002 when Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson.

Pacquiao has been vocal about Mayweather dodging him. Pacman said he’s ready anytime and that the fight could be worth as much as $1 billion dollars.

Will a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight ever happen?
