2014 Maxim Hot 100 List

Maxim recently released its annual “Hot 100” list for 2014. It’s filled with the usual suspects (Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, etc), but they have been known to add in a few up & coming starlets.

The most shocking omissions are from the television show Mad Men. I don’t know how Maxim failed to add Alison Brie, Christina Hendricks, Jessica Paré or January Jones to the 2014 Maxim Hot 100. Also, I was surprised Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland didn’t make the cut.

I did feel a tad old looking at this year’s list. There are many newcomers and one of the younger Kardashian girls appears on the list for the first time.

‘BASEketball’ Cast: Then & Now

I really hate admitting this, but BASEketball is one of my favorite movies. I saw it with friends in the theater and I still find myself not turning the channel when it comes on HBO (it’s on as I’m writing this).

The movie only made $7 million at the box office, but has gained a cult following since its release on DVD.

The stars of the flim, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are the creators of South Park. The duo went on to produce the puppet-oriented movie Team America: World Police and even the popular Broadway play The Book of Mormon. BASEketball is the only project they starred in that they didn’t write or produce.

It’s now 2013 and many of the stars went on to do interesting things and some, not so much.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Visits GABF [VIDEO]

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog never disappoints. The character made famous by Robert Smigel on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” is still going strong with videos on “Conan” on TBS and all over the internet

Triumph visited the “Great American Beer Festival” in Denver and poked fun at the entire craft beer industry. And yes, a 40oz. of malt liquor makes an appearance.

2013 Maxim Hot 100 List

Maxim recently released its annual “Hot 100” list for 2013. It’s usually filled with the usual suspects (Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, etc), but they have been known to add in a few up & coming starlets.

Maxim decided to play around with the list this year. They included an attorney general, a fictional girlfriend, and a drunk co-host of a popular morning show. I know that this list isn’t exactly the BCS standings, but I found it very weird.

See who made the list this year and who didn’t. A few ladies from Mad Men didn’t make the cut and a certain lady who’s currently shacking up with Kanye West. Jay-Z to Sell Ownership in Brooklyn Nets

It comes to no surprise that after rap mogul Jay-Z signed to be the sports agent for New York Yankees Robinson Cano, he will now sell his small (really small) ownership in the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets franchise.

Contrary to popular belief, Jay-Z only owns less than 1% ownership in the Brooklyn Nets. He is more of a figurehead than someone with any power. The majority owner is Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

He recently partnered with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to create his own company, Roc Nation. He hopes to complete the sell by the end of the season so he can sign upcoming players in this June’s NBA Draft.

It’s hard to say who used who between Jay-Z and the Nets. The then-New Jersey Nets eyed a marquee name to attached themselves. It helped Jay-Z had New York ties to help create a buzz about push the team’s future move to the area in motion. Continue reading →

What If “Breaking Bad” Debuted in 1995? [Video]

I love when people are creative on YouTube.

The YouTube user GoesToEleven, who earlier released a video of the 1995-style opening credits for “The Walking Dead”,has done it again. This time he uses the television show “Breaking Bad”.

This is the best thing on the internet right now.

Mila Kunis is Amazing!

While doing a press junket for “Oz the Great and Powerful”, a young lad (Chris Stark) from BBC One Radio got his turn to interview Mila Kunis. He asks two questions and then finally just tells her how nervous he is. He then talks about a normal night out with his lads. Kunis pushes him to talk more about his local football club because she’s bored. He then invites her to a wedding in June.

Kunis must have loved this interview, because she has spent the last few hours answering the same questions about the movie. She started asking him questions about everyday British life. A representative asked the young lad to keep asking questions about the movie, so Kunis just goes on a 90 second blitz answering the questions everyone else asks. That moment is at the 4:50 mark.

I love her.

Podcast Starter Kit: “The Comedy Button”

If you’re new to the podcast world and unsure about what to subscribe to on Itunes, we’re here to help.

We listen to various podcasts while we write, so we know some of the gems buried in the pile of bad podcasts in Itunes.

The Comedy Button is a comedy podcast made by guys in the video game industry. Many of the guys currently write at IGN or Geekbox. The cast includes: Anthony Gallegos, Ryan Scott, Brian Altano, Scott Bromley and Max Scoville.

A lot of the humor is very geek-oriented (video games, comic books), but once you listen to an episode, you’ll want to hear more.

Ten Wrestlers Who Deserve to be in WWE Hall of Fame

The 2013 WWE Hall of Fame class has been announced, well the headliners at least. Mick Foley, Bob Backlund, Trish Stratus, and most importantly, Bruno Sammartino are set to be inducted in Madison Square Garden before Wrestlemania 29.

Sammartino is the biggest name in the upcoming class. He has been dead-set against being inducted, but finally accepted the induction. He believes the current state of professional wrestling feeds the bottom denominator. He has been vocal about the vulgarity in “sports entertainment” and vowed to never accepted an induction invitation. I don’t know what changed, but I’m glad he will finally be in.

America’s White Boy: The Podcast?

Hey guys,

I know what you’re thinking…did he just wake up from his New Year’s hangover? Well, sort of.

I’ve been working on launching a podcast. I’ve never worked with audio equipment at this level before, so it has been a learning experience. I’m very thankful my dog is not a parrot. He would have learned so many colorful words.

Before I ask you guys to email BobbyMcRib (at) Gmail or tweet me @Sweetbob, I want to explain what I want to accomplish with the podcast.

The podcast will be a mix between sports and pop culture. I have a lot of friends/acquaintances/colleagues who cover sports or music for a living. I want to share them with the world along with some of the characters I’ve met in my life. I’d feel very selfish if I didn’t share them with the world. The target demographic will be male 18-49, but I don’t want to be overtly chauvinistic. The podcast will be humorous, but I want to keep an option open to interview interesting people, even if the goal is to only inform.

Wait, if I have a bikini model on the podcast, will that help my iTunes podcast algorithm rank? No? Damn.

If you have any ideas, topics, sponsorship inquiries or advice, please shoot me an email or tweet. This podcast idea has been on my mind for a long time. It has taken the success of this blog (and experience gained from writing for print mags and other websites) to give me the confidence to pursue this. The first episode’s release date is TBD, but it will be here sooner than you know.

First Look: First Official Photos of "Carrie" Remake

I’m a big fan of the original “Carrie” that was released way before my time. If you’re not familiar with the movie, it was adapted from a Stephen King book. I watched the movie when I was a young boy because my father used to watch a ton of horror movies.

The remake stars Chloe Grace Moritz (Kick-Ass) and Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights). It is a story about an abused young girl snaps after a school prank. The scene where pig’s blood is dumped on the main character is one of the most iconic scenes in modern cinema.

The studio released some photos and from the looks of them, it looks promising.

YouTube Gold: "Botchamania"

If you’re a fan of professional wrestling, bloopers and/or 8-bit music, you’ll love the “Botchamania” series on YouTube. There are over 200 episodes so far and they keep getting better. You’ll have to watch a few to understand all of the inside jokes that run during each episode, but you will catch on.

The biggest running joke in ‘Botchamania’ is the non-stop jokes made at the expense of a wrestling promotion called CZW. They run a blooper reel from the promotion during every episode. The CZW section is usually filled with a lot of ‘JESUS!’ screams. Other running jokes include Jim Cornette’s poor decisions, Taz and Booker T’s insane commentary, and wrestlers whispering to each other in the ring.
