It’s Time To Find Your Escape Through Hobbies

fishingbaypexelsWe all need an escape. We are all going to need a getaway. Why? Because life can get too much sometimes, and hey – it isn’t always about being a productive worker bee in your place of work. It’s about enjoying the little things, finding those little talents or quirks that can help you make the most of your time away from your workplace. We can overwork ourselves and end up in a stressed out heap, or we can find that escape from the world that we enjoy and make the most of our lives. Which option sounds better? It’s the second one – always! Sorry to make the choice for you, but everyone needs a hobby – but not just that – they need a chill hobby that serves a purpose. That’s no offense to those other hobbies, but some don’t always serve as an escape, but another source of frustration! These can include sports, but it depends on your mentality, it will always depend on your attitude – remember a hobby should help you escape, not get you all riled up when you are home away from your desk!

But for us mere mortals who only exercise because we have to, here are some other kind of hobbies that might occupy you!

Flying Drones

Drones have grown massively in popularity over the last few years. While they’re useful tools for videographers, the police and even Amazon, flying drones as a hobby is a lot of fun too. They can be bought within all budgets these days, so whether you want to spend a little or a lot you’re sure to have fun outside controlling these awesome little contraptions!

The Pop Culture Trends That Stuck And Became A Part Of Our Daily Lives

pexels-photo-211050Pop culture trends usually start in large cities where young, hip metropolitan professionals congregate. Trends or FADs sometimes come out of nowhere but tend to be born, ferment and eventually permeate into the wider world. But as with all fashion, nothing lasts forever, and trends come in and out of popularity; some disappear for good. However, there are some trends that looked like any other, but somehow found a niche in society and stuck around.

Commuter bikes

Many people don’t cycle to work because of the risk that comes with it. A person on a bicycle whizzing around the city at rush hour, weaving through, in and out of traffic, avoid collisions at every corner…Doesn’t sound fun at all. It isn’t just that, it was the practicality of lugging around a great big bike, having to run the risk of leaving it in public for hours on end and not being very maneuverable in obscenely tight streets; such that you find in congested capital cities. Folding bikes like the tern link c7, changed the game forever. Now anyone can save energy and money simply by carrying around their own little mobile transport. It stuck, and hasn’t gone away; in fact, it spawned an entirely new consumer market.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – May 4th

Sweetbob's Fantasy Baseball F/M/KWe are now a month into the 2017 MLB season.

The new 10-day disabled list is causing some new issues this year. A lot more guys are being put on there since they wouldn’t lose him for two weeks. There are a lot of guys on the waiver wire on the DL that would be on a roster if they weren’t injured.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool.

Before I begin, let’s go over the F/M/K terminology. The guys that I list under “F*ck” are guys that are currently hot and you need to pick them up. “Marry”, are guys that you need to stick with the whole season, even if they are struggling a bit. “Kill”, are guys that need to be dropped for better players in the free agent pool.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: May 2017

Sweebob's Hipster Music Playlist May 2017 America's White Boy funny weirdApril was an eventful month on the site. The start of baseball and the NFL Draft really boosted the traffic. I want to thank everyone for reading.

We are very pleased with our May playlist. The list is filled with familiar bands that graced past playlists, but there are some first-timers on there as well.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content. Keep sending me tracks via email or Twitter.

Make sure to go over to our Spotify playlist where we add every track each month. There’s something for everyone there.

2017 NFL Draft: Best Undrafted Players

2017-nfl-draft-best-undrafted-players-bug-howard-north-carolina-tar-heels-WRThe 2017 NFL Draft is officially complete and street sweepers are cleaning up the aftermath in Philly.

253 players were drafted over a three-day period. Some of those players will never play one down in a regular season NFL game. On the other side of the coin, many college players that went undrafted could end up having long careers in the NFL.

Kurt Warner went undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft. He was a training camp invitee with the Green Bay Packers. He was released before the season and then found himself in the Arena Football League. He was successful there and then signed by the St. Louis Rams. Starting QB Trent Green suffered an ACL injury in the preseason and Warner was named the starter. He went on the win the Super Bowl that season. Warner will be inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio late this Summer.

2017 NFL Draft: Day 2 Recap

DeShone Kizer Notre Dame Fighting Irish Cleveland Browns 2017 NFL Draft Day 2Well, Day 2 of the 2017 NFL Draft is over.

There aren’t many ‘sexy’ picks made on Day 2, but this is where a lot of guys with first round talent, but either injuries or off-the-field issues keep their names from being called on Thursday.

Day 2 is also where many teams pick up some of the depth a playoff team needs to make it through the entire season. Guys get injured and the ‘next guy up’ mentality is present late in every NFL season.

Did any teams reach for a player? Who dropped much farther than we thought they would drop?

We explain our thoughts on each second and third round picks.

2017 NFL Draft: First-Round Recap

Mitchell Trubisky Chicago Bears 2017 NFL Draft Roger GoodellThe first round of the 2017 NFL Draft is in the books.

There were a few trades, but very little surprises. I guess the most surprising trend of the night was how much teams were getting to trade down in the draft. The Bears, Chiefs and Texans paid a huge premium to trade up to draft quarterbacks.

We explain our thoughts on each first round pick and compare them to our 2017 NFL Mock Draft.

1. Cleveland BrownsMyles Garrett – DE – Texas A&M Aggies – I’m glad the Browns stuck to the ‘best player available’ for their #1 pick. I’m sure some people were in their ear trying to persuade them to draft a quarterback, but they held their ground. (Mock: DE Myles Garrett)

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – April 26th

SweetbobFMK1We are just over three weeks into the season.

A ton of guys are currently on the new 10-day disabled list. Some roster challenges are filling their spot and/or dropping someone who was just activated.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool.

Players shoot, dribble, pass, defend, and do much more throughout the course of the game. Now, basketball is a stop-start kind of a game, which means it’s not recognized as a hugely aerobic sport.
