Deftones covers Sadé’s "Ordinary Love"

We are in the second week of ‘Cover Song Month

I have spent the first 10 days posting some of my all-time favorite cover songs. I went on an expedition in search of some forgotten favorites. I rediscovered Deftones’ cover of Sadé’s “Ordinary Love”.

I have been a fan of Deftones since I met Chino back in 2003. He was such a nice guy and the experience made me a fan forever.

Here’s the video of their cover of “Ordinary Love”, after the jump…

Indians Closer Chris Perez Saves Game, Pukes On Mound

Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez earned his 20th save by defeating his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Instead of fireworks being shot off after the game, he projectile vomited all over the mound.

He was suffering from some gastrointestinal issues and decided to still pitch in the game. He has done this before, in 2011 he had the same issues with the same result.

Cleveland.com‘s Glenn Moore, who has worked with Perez’s on a podcast, edited the video of Perez vomiting with the audio of WWE’s Vince McMahon from the documentary “Beyond the Mat”. Great job, my friend!

Amanda Palmer covers Radiohead’s "Idioteque"

We are 1/3 of the way through ‘Cover Song Month‘.

This Radiohead cover came on a sampler I received last year. It didn’t register in my head that the song was a Radiohead cover until I put it on my iPod and it shuffled this track while I was at the gym. There are thousands of “Idioteque” covers on YouTube, but Amanda Palmer’s version stands out.

Palmer was in the news recently because she was the first artist to raise $1 million dollars using the FIY site ‘Kickstarter’. Her goal was to only raise $100k. The site let’s artists post projects that need funding and takes pledges from people. If the project meets its predetermined fiscal goal, the artist gets the money that was pledged.

Boxing is Fixed: Manny Pacquiao loses to Timothy Bradley

In what could be the biggest fraud in boxing’s rich history, Timothy Bradley (29-0) stayed undefeated by winning a split-decision over favorite Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2).

I watched the entire fight and even tweeted that it was boring because Pacquiao was dominating him in every round. The only round that I had Bradley winning was the 10th. HBO’s Harold Lederman had nearly the same scorecard as me.

If Bradley won the fight, why did everyone on Twitter go berserk when he was announced as the winner? Is this the end of boxing? Continue reading

Google WTF: ‘Corky’

A friend and I have been sending each other Google search words that spawn really weird image results. I have quite a list and ‘corky‘ is a good keyword to start this series of posts.

Images from the television show ‘Life Goes On’ and the movie ‘Corky Romano’ fill most of the first ten pages of image results. You have to filter in-between those images to see the humorous and macabre.

I added a small sample of the pictures you would see if you search for ‘corky’ on Google. All of these photos are in the first ten pages of results…I didn’t have to search very hard for these.

The photos are after the jump…

I had to add this one…the doll is beyond creepy.
Why so serious?!
Please note the sweet rat tail.
What are the odds that this guy is an accountant?
If Richard Simmons and Carrot Top had a baby.
Once again, dolls creep me out.

Bon Iver covers The Outfield’s "Your Love"

Day 9 of ‘Cover Song Month‘ is upon us.

Bon Iver + 80’s music = amazeballs?!

I love Bon Iver and 80’s music, so this is the perfect cover song for what I’m trying to do this month. If you like either, you will enjoy this track.

Six Pitchers Combine for Seattle Mariners No-Hitter

The Seattle Mariners were victims of a perfect game earlier this season. No-hitter karma paid it forward tonight when six Seattle pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was the franchise’s third no-hitter and its first since Chris Bosio’s no-hitter in 1993.

Seattle barely avoided being one of the few teams to lose while throwing a no-hitter. They squeaked out a victory and won the game 1-0.

This is the fourth no-hitter thrown this season. Has any other MLB team threw a no-hitter and used more than six pitchers? Are we going to see more no-hitters in 2012?

Kevin Millwood started the game and pitched six innings without giving up a hit. Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League, and Tom Wilhelmsen combined to pitch the final three innings. Pryor received the win while Wilhelmsen earned his third save of the season by closing out the game.

This was the second time Milwood was part of a no-hitter. He threw a complete game no-hitter as a member of the Phillies in 2003.

Kyle Seager drove in the only run of the game by singling in Ichiro Suzuki. Seager is now batting .275 on the season. Ichico had three hits and a stolen base in the game.

Dodgers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings of shutout baseball. He now has an ERA of 1.93 on the year. Scott Elbert, who allowed Seager’s RBI single in the 7th inning, was credited with the loss.

This no-hitter is not without scandal. Dee Gordon hit a slow roller to Brandan Ryan. He made a great throw to first base and was called out. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly thought Gordon beat out the throw and argued with the umpire.

This was the 10th combined no-hitter in MLB history. It’s the first since six Houston Astros pitchers combined for a no-hitter against the Yankees in 2003.

Jared Weaver, Phillip Humber, and Johan Santana have already pitched no-hitters this season. Humber pitched a perfect game against the Mariners earlier this season.

2012 NFL: Win Totals Over/Under

It’s that time of the year again, football-related sports gambling!

I went through every game this season and picked which team would win. The process took much longer than I anticipated but it is something that I enjoy doing every year. You should expect a lot of sports betting posts from me during the football season. I have had a lot of betting success with both NFL and NCAA college football. I like doing high-risk parlays that pay off well. I am looking forward to analyze the Week 1 point spreads as we get closer to the season.

I pick the over/under win totals for every NFL team this season. I pick a few underdogs and why Vegas has me confused by a couple over/under win totals. The 2012 NFL season will be a lot of fun. Here are my picks… Continue reading

Frank Ocean covers Coldplay’s "Strawberry Swing"

This tracks ends the first week of ‘Cover Song Month.’

I have to be honest, the first I heard of Frank Ocean was when he worked with Kanye West. I checked out his own stuff and I really like him. I would have never thought that he would cover a Coldplay song, but he pulls it off.

Who Will Sign Chad Ochocinco?

The New England Patriots released Chad Ochocinco today. He struggled with the offense last season and lacked chemistry with Tom Brady. The Patriots signed Jabar Gaffney and Donté Stallworth in the off-season, two wide receivers who have already played with Brady. Their signings made Ochocinco expendable.

Ochocinco is in great condition and is known to be all business behind the scenes. He keeps his nose clean off the field and didn’t do any of his usual outlandish antics with New England.

The league is full of teams in need of a veteran receiver, which one will pull the trigger on Ochocinco?

ESPN Insider had a post earlier today about possible teams that could make a run at signing Ochocinco. They listed St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins as teams in the market for a veteran receiver. These teams are full of young receivers, but they also have young quarterbacks who need a reliable receiver as a safety net.

Out of the teams that ESPN lists, Miami would be the best fit. Not only would Ochocinco make their season of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ watchable, but he would be the best receiver on the team. The Dolphins have a short-term question at quarterback, so they have bigger issues at hand.

Ochocinco has ties to the Miami area. He went to high school in Miami Beach and he currently spends a lot of time there. He is engaged to ‘Basketball Wives’ Evelyn Lozada, the former partner of former NBA player Antoine Walker.

I would put money on his agent getting in contact with Miami, whether they want him is another issue. I believe Ochocinco has a year or two left on his legs. I am crossing my fingers that the Indianapolis Colts take a gamble on the veteran.

Neon Trees covers Justin Bieber’s "Baby"

We are a week into ‘Cover Song Month‘ and we have only scratched the surface.

I’m a fan of Neon Trees…even though they covered a Justin Bieber song. It was done in a very old school way by meshing it with “Stand By Me” and I can respect that.
