Sports Crush: Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is more than just a pretty face. She is a mixed-martial artist with a focus on judo. She won the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She then moved into MMA fighting at the beginning of 2011. She currently holds an undefeated record of 6-0.

She is the first female fighter in the UFC. UFC President Dana White recently awarded her the Bantamweight Championship. She is due to face Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. The fight shares top billing with Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida. Rousey has defeated every opponent in the first round, so please time out your bathroom breaks accordingly.

After Ronda “Rowdy Rousey” defeated a past “sports crush” Miesha Tate, she had my attention. And if she didn’t already have my respect, she went on Jim Rome’s new show and said, “I try to have as much sex as possible before a fight.”

Yep. She’s a keeper. Follow her on Twitter at @RondaRousey.

Sports Crush: Heidi Watney

How could we not include the MLB Network’s latest addition to my ‘Sports Crush‘ series?

Heidi Watney was hired by the MLB Network back in September and she’s getting ready for her first complete season there. She has worked for NESN hosting “The Red Sox Report” and “The Ultimate Red Sox Show”. Before working there, she was a sports anchor for two stations in Fresno, California.

The internet is filled with pro-Heidi Watney buzz. The Dropkick Murphys even had her in their video for “Going Out In Style”. She is more than just a pretty face, Watney knows her stuff and very good at her job.

If you’re not familiar with Miss Watney, we help you get ready for the upcoming MLB season with a picture gallery of Heidi Watney. Continue reading

Sports Crush: Miesha Tate

“The Ultimate Fighter” could be getting…hotter?! A rumor that’s floating around is that the competition could be getting its first ever women’s season of TUF. The rumored coaches are Miesha Tate and current Strikeforce bantamweight champion Ronda Rousy. Rousey beat Tate to win the title back in March.

Miesha Tate is a Gina Carano-esque beauty who could kick your ass. Don’t let her nickname of “Cupcake” fool you, she’s an excellent mixed-martial artist. Tate is 12-3 and has a fight tonight with Julie Kedzie (16-10).

She’s my current Sports Crush and you can follow her on Twitter at @MieshaTate.

If you’re on the fence about watching Strikeforce tonight on Showtime and Showtime Extreme, let me help you make up your mind by showing you a photo gallery of Miesha Tate. Continue reading

Sports Crush (Olympics Edition): Alex Morgan

The 2012 London Olympics was a treasure trove of attractive people. Who would have thought that active people could be so beautiful? (I’m being extremely snarky)

Team USA’s women’s soccer team was dominant and took home the gold medal. They all buy choked in the World Cup, but they redeemed themselves  by defeating Japan in the final. Carli Lloyd, Hope Solo and our current Sports Crush, Alex Morgan, helped lead the team.

Solo was the darling of the World Cup and since Morgan is one of the  of the London games, she will get fifteen minutes of fame. She may not follow Solo by joining the cast of “Dancing with the Stars”, but it would increase the viewership in the 18-49 male demographic. Morgan was rumored to be romantically linked to Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez earlier this year, but now she is rumored to be dating soccer player Servando Carrasco.

Sports Crush (Olympics Edition): Jen Kessy & April Ross

We already know who Missy May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings are, but U.S. Women’s Beach Volleyball has two new members that everyone should know. Jennifer Kessy and April Ross will be household names by the end of the 2012 Olympics.

The duo barely missed making the 2008 Olympics, but went on to win the 2009 World Championships.

Beach volleyball fans already know them and they are expected to do very well in the 2012 Olympics. I hope they win a medal, because ABC needs new women athletes to invite to participate in ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

After the Olympics, they could have hyphens after their names real soon, just like May and Walsh…Jen Kessy-Roberts sounds nice.

Here is a photo gallery of the Kessy/Ross beach volleyball duo. Continue reading

Sports Crush: ESPN’s Samantha Steele

ESPN’s College Gameday will have a new face this fall. Samantha Steele-Ponder will be called up to the Majors and take the spot vacated by Erin Andrews, who recently left to join Fox Sports.

Steele has been working at the Longhorn Network and worked sideline duty at various college football and basketball games for ESPN.

With the departure of Michelle Beadle and Andrews, she will most likely be the new female face of ESPN along with Charissa Thompson and Sara Walsh.

We fill you in on Steele’s background and attach a mini photo gallery to help you get to know her a little better.

Steele-Ponder, 26, is a graduate of Liberty University and her father is a football coach. She worked for Fox Sports Net and Fox College Sports before landing a job at the Longhorn Network.

She will be hosting the pre-Gameday show on ESPNU at 9am, helping at the College Gameday broadcast on ESPN, and take over sideline reporting duties during the Thursday and Saturday night football games. She will be thrust into the spotlight and college boys will surely be giving her the same rude catcalls they yelled at Andrews for years.

She’s the perfect addition to the broadcasts. She’s professional, extremely likable, and cute as a button.

Here is an ESPN podcast that introduces Steele as the new addition to College Gameday.

If you wish to follow her on Twitter, she can be found @SamSteelePonder. We wish Miss Steele the best of luck this fall.

Steele married Christian Ponder during the 2012 NFL season. He is a very lucky guy!

Here are a few pictures of Samantha Ponder on the job.
