Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 4

Peyton Manning Colin Kaepernick FantasyFantasy football reared her ugly head last weekend. You had some stars suffering bad fantasy weeks and some bench players coming up big.

The bye weeks begin this week with the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers sitting this week out. Fantasy owners will need to replace Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, Reggie Cobb, Steve Smith, Jordy Nelson and James Jones in their lineups.

I hope I helped out fantasy owners last week. I had some good calls (Snelling, Moreno, Cameron), but missed on Pierre Garcon. I feel confident this week’s edition of Fantasy Football Start/Sit will help fantasy owners win in Week 4. Continue reading

2013 NCAA Football – Week 5 Betting Picks Against Spread

Braxton Miller Kenny Guiton Ohio State BuckeyesWow, I actually have my college football betting line post completed before Friday? I deserve a Pumpkin Spice Latté, or ‘PSL’ as it’s known in the suburbs and cul-de-sacs (I roll hard).

After last week’s college football snooze fest, we have a lot of good games on Saturday. After Saturday, the college football landscape will be less muddy. The good teams will be known and the pretenders will have money left on their night stand.

Will Wisconsin ruin Ohio State’s national championship aspirations? Can Notre Dame hold off Oklahoma? Which SEC powerhouse will win the LSU/Georgia game?

We answer those questions and pick all the big college football games on Saturday…we also sneak in a few smaller games in the MAC and Mountain West conferences. Continue reading

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: September 2013

Hipster-Michael-Cera-MusicI keep an ear out for new music. I’m used to discovering new bands from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

It’s been a few months since I’ve posted a Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist. I always receive a lot of great feedback from them, so sorry for the delay. A lot of emails came in from readers who recommended new tracks to me, which I love. I will keep posting these as long as I keep receiving all the feedback.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Eddie Money or Roxette (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

Here are 12 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. All of the songs are fresh and have only been released a few months or less.

Your ears will thank you for listening! Continue reading

2013 NFL – Week 3 Betting Picks Against Spread

Football Betting Cash Against Spread PicksNeeded betting advice before the Thursday night’s NFL game? Sorry about that.

My life is seriously fantasy football, college football betting lines and doing research for NBA team previews. I watch the NFL while I do all those things, so my plate is a little full, which explains why I’m posting the NFL betting picks against the spread post on Friday.

I had some nice wins last week, but missed on the Dolphins and Jets.

Can Seattle cover a 19-point spread against Jacksonville on Sunday? It’s one of the largest NFL point spreads in recent memory.

We pick every NFL game against the spread and throw out a few upsets and moneyline plays for Week 3 of the young NFL season. Continue reading

2013 NCAA Football – Week 4 Betting Picks Against Spread

Manziel-Money-Sign-Touchdown-CelebrationI apologize for being a little late with this week’s college football picks against the spread, I’ve been immersed with winning my fantasy baseball leagues and giving out fantasy football advice to friends and readers.

I’ve had a decent year so far picking college football games, but I’m looking to have a big week on September 21st in Week 4 of the NCAA football season.

Can Johnny Manziel forget last week’s loss against Alabama? Will Notre Dame and Florida ramp up their play after poor performances early this season?

We answer those questions and help you decide who you want to bet on this week (we mention a possible addition in a parlay). Continue reading

Horse Betting for Beginners

Mr-Ed-Horse-Betting-GamblingAfter years of betting on sports like football, basketball and baseball, I was looking for something new to try. It’s not like I perfected gambling on those sports, but I’ve always been curious about horse betting.

Before I went into it head first, I needed to do my research first. I wanted to give myself the best odds of winning. I had to learn about the sport and why people love putting “a few dimes on a pony.”

As I read about the sport, I realized how little I actually knew about horse racing. I knew about the Triple Crown races (Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, Preakness), but was unaware of how many daily races are held all over the country. I may have been a little naive, considering there’s a relatively large track within an hour from my house. Continue reading

Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 3

jay-cutler-kristin-cavallariWeek 2 was a bounce back week for many stars who disappointed in the first week of the season. You had players like James Jones, Pierre Garcon and Calvin Johnson all had big fantasy weeks after having a subpar Week 1.

I hope I helped out fantasy owners last week. I had some good calls, but missed on Garcon and Lacy (due to injury). I feel confident that this week’s edition of Fantasy Football Start/Sit will help fantasy owners win in Week 3.

Will Reggie Bush and Ray Rice play this weekend? Is Roddy White still a decoy? Will Trent Richardson contribute right away for the Colts? We try to answer those questions and many more. Continue reading

Colts trade pick for Trent Richardson

trent-richardson-indianapolis-coltsThe Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns may have just shocked the world.

The Colts are sending a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for running back Trent Richardson.

The Colts starting running back, Vick Ballard, tore his ACL in a practice last week, so they were in search for a running back.

Colts owner Jim Irsay hinted on Twitter last week that the team was searching for a replacement for Ballard. Many assumed that they were after Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure. Well, the Colts out-kicked their coverage with this trade. Continue reading

Hockey Talk: Preseason Edition

florida panthers hello kitty logo nhlJoe Pasquali and Eddie Theisen are two die hard hockey fans.

Even in the midst of football starting and baseball gearing up for the postseason, these two idiots find time to talk about a sport that only Canadians and alcoholics care about, hockey. They now live together, but still find time each morning to catch up and sort of discuss the NHL.

This is their conversation. Continue reading

Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 2

reggie-bush-girlfriend-lions-fantasy-footballStars shined in Week 1 of the fantasy football season, but not every star helped your fantasy team (I’m pointing at you, Roddy White). A few fantasy sleepers also put up good numbers and helped many teams in Week 1. Julius Thomas and Harry Douglas definitely helped their teams.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

Can Reggie Bush keep up the stellar fantasy numbers? Continue reading

Cover Song Month: Birdy – “1901”

I couldn’t do a month full of cover songs without including Birdy. She made a name for herself by covering Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”.

She’s back covering Phoenix’s track, “1901”. I love how she deconstructs the melody and slows it down. Phoenix’s original is high-tempo, so a slowed-down version is very fresh.

Cover Song Month: Ed Sheeran feat. Passenger – “No Diggity”

You can’t have ‘Cover Song Month’ without indie musicians covering an old 90’s hip hop track, right?

Ed Sheeran is hot indie musician and Passenger is one of my personal favorites, his voice is amazing. They collaborated on “No Diggity” by Blackstreet…and it’s awesome.
