2012 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers

Is your Fantasy Baseball draft coming up soon? Most leagues will be drafting in the next two weeks and I’m here to help you out with late-round sleepers and guys that you should take a flyer on. These are guys that I feel are extremely undervalued and could help your team’s depth. Most of these guys are currently going in the late 200s or completely undrafted. There are certain baseball players that aren’t “sexy” to have on your team, but there’s value in those players. If you are in a league with a lot of bench spots, this post will be even more helpful to you. These are guys that you can stash away and wait until their playing situation is more established. 2011 Fantasy Baseball: Catchers

The catcher position looks fairly top-heavy this year in fantasy baseball. You have a young group on their way up and a few prominent catchers that look to be transitioning into a designated-hitter role. I ranked the top 20 catchers and added some sleepers and busts to help you in your draft.

My rankings are based on a standard 5×5 league. If you have any specific questions about a different league, email me bobbymcrib@gmail.com. Continue reading

2010 NFL Week 2 – Fantasy Football Sit/Start

I’m a man that can admit my faults. I completely whiffed on Arian Foster last week, but he was left on the bench on a lot of fantasy leagues last week. I did make good recommendations to start Matt Forte and to bench Ryan Mathews, Donovan McNabb, and DeSean Jackson. Here are my weekly Sit/Start column for Week 2 of the 2010 NFL Season.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players. Continue reading

2010 NFL Week 1 – Fantasy Football Sit/Start

I’m back with this season’s weekly post when I announce who will be fantasy football studs and duds. I made it to the championship game in every fantasy football league I was in last season. I helped a lot of people last season and I got a lot of great feedback from readers. Here are my players to sit and start for Week 1.

START’EM

Adrian Peterson – Favre isn’t 100%, Peterson should see a lot of work against the Saints.

Drew Brees – Vikings run defense is solid, but secondary can be throw on, if he’s given time.

Both Steve Smiths – They face each other this week and they are both solid starts. I think Matt Moore is an upgrade over Jake Delhomme.

Chad Henne – If Brandon Marshall can make Kyle Orton look good, imagine how good he will make Henne look this season.

Michael Turner – The Steelers defense will focus on stopping him and making Matt Ryan throw to beat them, but Turner is difficult to contain.

Rashard Mendenhall – Dixon is the QB and he will need a rushing attack and an option to dump the ball off, Mendenhall will have a nice game.

Calvin Johnson – When healthy, Johnson is a freak…he’s healthy and the Bears secondary is bad.

Matt Forte – I could be in the minority in thinking that Forte will have a nice season. He has nice hands and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Cutler will have to checkdown a lot to keep from throwing picks.

Cedric Benson – The Patriots front four is getting old and Benson should get the ball a lot.

Pierre Garcon – The Texans secondary is weak, all the Colts wide receiving corps should do well. Garcon has the hands and speed to do damage.

Chris Johnson – You used the #1 pick in the draft, you have to start him no matter the situation.

Jason Campbell – Redskins had him in handcuffs and the Raiders will let him use his cannon, even if his wideout options are weak.

Vernon Davis – He has turned to be Alex Smith’s #1 target and Seattle gave up a ton of TDs to tight ends last year.

Arizona Cardinals Defense – You have to start any defense that face the St. Louis Rams this season.

Tony Romo – He’s on the road in a big game, he has to be hyped for a game like this. He has many options to throw to and defenses will have to plan to stop Jones and Barber.

LaDanian Tomlinson – I know, I know…a bit risky. Shonn Greene is the #1 back, but I think LT gets in the end zone.

Green Bay Packers defense – Kevin Kolb looked good filling in for McNabb last season, but the Packers are going throw the kitchen sink at him.

Phillip Rivers – The Chiefs will be energized with a home Monday Night Football game, but their secondary is weak.

Both Mike Williams – DEEP LEAGUE START – You should start these in a standard league, but both Mike Williams (Tampa Bay and Seattle) are the only solid options on their teams at wideout.

SIT’EM

Brett Favre – He has to prove to me that his ankle is well enough to do anything of importance before I can start him in a standard league.

Pierre Thomas – He will lose some carries to Reggie Bush and the Vikings run defense is top notch.

Brandon Jacobs – He seems to have a scaled back role in 2010 and Ahmad Bradshaw is set to take over #1 duties.

Any Buffalo Bills player – I know C.J. Spiller is a sexy pick this year, but they need so much help on offense, they can’t just rely on him.

Dennis Dixon – The Steelers would rather have Byron Leftwich at QB…that should tell you something.

Jay Cutler – The Bears O-line is bad, if the Lions can get pressure on Cutler, he’s going to throw picks.

Any NE Patriots RB – The backfield for the Patriots is so congested, it’s a crapshoot in trying to choose who to play.

Arian Foster – Steve Slaton and Derrick Ward are both on the roster. Slaton has had good games against the Colts, but Foster is a different type of back, a back that the Colts can stop.

Sam Bradford – He’s a rookie and has zero options at wide receiver. It will be a long season for the young quarterback.

Donovan McNabb – He’s a question mark to even play, so he’s too risky to take a chance.

Derrick Mason – Not sure why so many people are on his bandwagon this season. He’s up their in age and Boldin should get the most targets.

DeSean Jackson – The Packers secondary is good and will play against the big play. Jackson only seemed to score last season on big plays, he’s not a red zone target.

Ryan Matthews – I don’t trust a rookie running back in his first game, plus it’s on the road.

NFL Week 7: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

Week 6 was a great week for many fantasy football stars and this week should be the same. There are some very favorable match-ups. I made some nice picks last week and I hope I helped you win your league. I advised to sit Brandon Jacobs and Mark Sanchez and told you to start Jeremy Shockey and Rashard Mendenhall. I hope I can help out this week with my Sit’em or Start’em for Week 7.

Before I start, I just want to ask you a question. The Colts are playing the Rams this week, can they surpass the 59-0 score the Patriots laid on the Titans? I think it will be pretty darn close to it. Without further adieu, here are my picks…

START’EM

Peyton Manning – He had a bye week to rest and now he has the Rams throw against in a glorified scrimmage game for the Colts.

DeAngelo Williams – Carolina has finally given up on Jake Delhomme and are going to start running the ball on every down. Pick up Jonathan Stewart if he’s available in your league as well.

Marques Colston – Drew Brees likes to spread the ball around, but he’ll get his touches against Miami this weekend.

Hines Ward – He is off to a great start this year and Ben Roethlisberger is really looking for him. He’ll have a nice game against Minnesota.

Thomas Jones – I wasn’t very high on him, but with Mark Sanchez looking like Jake Delhomme, I would expect the Jets to run the ball more.

Cedric Benson – Benson will be out for blood against his old team. The Bears haven’t been too consistent against the run and he’s been on fire.

Miles Austin – Can he duplicate the 250 yard performance? No, but he’ll get a lot of targets against the Falcons.

Donald Driver – Give me a good veteran receiver against the Browns secondary any week. Aaron Rodgers will be looking for him all game.

Sidney Rice – I had him as my sleeper pick for the Vikings at the beginning of the year and he has turned into Favre’s #1 deep target. He’ll stretch PIttsburgh’s secondary and get a few deep balls.

Green Bay Defense – Until Derek Anderson looks like a professional quarterback, start any defense that he plays against.

Vernon Davis – I liked him about every week and I think he’ll have a nice game against the Texans. He’s coming off of a bye and he’ll be rested.

Frank Gore – Speaking of 49ers coming off of the bye, Gore will be back from his ankle sprain. The Texans are bad against the run and his will be a nice return for him.

Jacoby Jones – He is turning into a better option than Kevin Walter in Houston. He has speed and can do damage after the catch.

Johnny Knox – He’s becoming Jay Cutler’s favorite target in the passing attack and he’ll get his share of targets against the Bengals.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis – DEEP LEAGUE START – The Patriots aren’t completely sold on Laurence Maroney and they’ll have a nice lead at halftime, so expect a lot of carries from the backfield in the 2nd half against Tampa Bay.

SIT’EM

Eli Manning – His injury scares me and I am not sure if he’ll be 100%. He didn’t look right against the Saints

Both Steve Smiths – I don’t like the Carolina verson because the Panthers do not trust Delhomme at all. The Giants version will need Manning to be 100% healthy to be effective.

Brandon Jacobs – I hate to be so Giants heavy with my Sit’ems, but how bad has he looked this year? Big running backs tend to show their age faster than smaller running backs.

Steve Slaton – If he can’t start getting the running game going, they will be forced to use Chris Brown more in games. If he has a couple more mediocre weeks, he could be in danger of losing his starting job.

Braylon Edwards – Mark Sanchez will not throwing as much against Oakland and Edwards still isn’t fully into the offense yet.

Matt Forte – Yes, another disappointing 1st-round running back. I’ve been anti-Forte for most of the year and he still looks slow. How can a guy age 10 years after his rookie season?

Mohammed Massaquoi – He might be the #1 receiver in Cleveland, but if the QB can’t get him the ball, what is he worth? Green Bay’s secondary is great and will be a blanket on the Browns receivers all game.

Pittsburgh Steelers Defense – They are usually an automatic start, but I fear Minnesota’s offense. They are really clicking right now and Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre could have nice weeks.

Roy Williams – Tony Romo seems to have given up on him and he’s not completely healthy. I would stay away from him this week.

Chris Cooley – Until the Redskins get their offense in order, I would stay away from Cooley and any other player on the Redskins.

Jeremy Maclin – I fear that he could be a one-week wonder. Rookie wide receivers are very unpredictable and it’s all about matchups. I would stay away from him this week.

Bernard Berrian – Sidney Rice is the deep threat on the Vikings. That used to be Berrian’s job, ’cause he isn’t much of a possession receiver. If he doesn’t have the deep routes, he’s not very useful.

NFL Week 6: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

These are the weeks where a fantasy football team owner can build a team to win a championship. Teams will start dropping players to fill needs due to bye weeks. Mike Sims-Walker probably killed many of you last week, but if you started Austin Collie or Miles Austin, you won. These kind of pick-ups are what you need to win. Here are my fantasy football sit’em or start’em for Week 6.

It’s that time of year where you have to be rash judgments on players. You need to cut the dead weight before it causes you to lose games. I have listed a few guys that you need to cut and some guys that you need to grab off of the waiver wire right now. Continue reading

NFL Week 5: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

My week 4 fantasy football sit/start post did pretty well. Steve Smith of the New York Giants caught everything, Vernon Davis had another big week, the Ravens running backs helped fantasy owners, and Visanthe Shiancoe caught a touchdown on Monday Night. I predicted a few sits from last week that came through. Willie Parker couldn’t even play and Thomas Jones is a shell of himself. Week 5 has some nice match-ups and see who you need to pick up on the waiver wire. Here is my fantasy football sit/start for Week 5. Continue reading

NFL Week 4: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

My Fantasy Football Sit/Start picks from last week had some nice picks for you last week. I said to start Willis McGahee, Felix Jones, and Maurice Jones-Drew I told you to sit Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, and every Browns player. I hope everyone took my advice and here are this week’s fantasy football sit/starts for Week 4.

I’m sitting pretty nice in every league that I’m in, but I’m hurting in a league where I lost Frank Gore. I plan on picking up a few reserve running backs this week to fill in holes. This is the first wave of teams with bye weeks, so you need to hit up your waiver wire and pick up some bodies to fill in. I’ll try to help you with this with my fantasy football sit/start for this weekend. Continue reading

NFL Week 3: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

My Fantasy Football Sit/Start picks from last week was nearly 100% perfect last week. I said to start Fred Jackson and Dallas Clark, and even picked my Deep League sleeper with Pierre Garcon. I told you to sit Matt Forte, Reggie Bush, and the Eagles defense. I hope everyone took my advice and here are this week’s fantasy football sit/starts for Week 3.

I’m sitting 1-1 in every league that I’m in, since I faced a team with Adrian Peterson in nearly every league that week. I bounced back last week and had a nice week, especially since Frank Gore won me a few games. I had an even better week gambling against the NFL odds. Continue reading

NFL Week 2: Fantasy Football Sit/Start

I wanted to wait until Week 2 to do a fantasy football post about who to sit and who to start, because after a draft, you already know who you are going to start. The NFL odds are in my favor this week, with a better understanding of the teams. After one week of play and a handful of injuries, some things have changed and there are a few gems out there that you can pick up on the waiver wire and many in deep leagues, so use your waiver pick-up wisely. Here are some Sit/Starts for Week 2 of the NFL.

These are some picks that people might be on the borderline on whether or not to start them. They are not no-brainers like “Should I start Adrian Peterson?”, if you ask yourself that question, you should just remove yourself from your fantasy football league.

START’EM

Fred Jackson – With Marshawn Lynch out because of suspension, Jackson is the featured back in Buffalo. He has pass catching ability and Trent Edwards is looking for him. He didn’t impress anyone with his rushing yards, but his receiving yards and touchdown made him a surprise pick. Get this guy if he’s out there on your league, but he may only be great for three more weeks.

Cadillac Williams/Derrick Ward – I like both of these backs against Buffalo. They will each get some action and will most likely be a nice flex option if you have a RB/WR option in your league. Williams is the starter, but Ward is going to put up as many numbers as he did with the Giants last year.

Darren Sproles – LaDanian Tomlinson is injured and he may not practice all week, so expect Sproles to see a lot of action against Baltimore. He may not get many carries, but he should see a lot of dump passes and screen action when the Ravens blitz.

Roy Williams – Tony Romo is looking for him and he’s on fire. An off-season in their offense has helped him and he’s a great option at wide-receiver.

Michael Bush – Darren McFadden looks to be a Reggie Bush-like option in Oakland, since Michael Bush looks like the man for the Raiders. He saw the bulk of the carries and punished San Diego last week. He will run all over Kansas City in Week 2.

Nate Burleson – He’s the #1 receiver in Seattle and saw the most looks from Hasselbeck. Deon Butler was my fantasy sleeper of the year, but he disappointed me last week. Deion Branch and T.J. Houshmandzadeh didn’t impress me and are 2nd and 3rd options in Seattle.

Ray Rice – San Diego is banged up and Oakland ran all over them. I think Rice will have a big game and he’s such a punishing back that he can carry Baltimore in this game.

Dallas Clark – Anthony Gonzalez is out and Indianapolis doesn’t have many receiving options. Dallas Clark will have a big game monday night against Miami. Manning will be looking for him all game.

Jeremy Shockey – Drew Brees will be throwing the ball all game against the Eagles. His wide-receivers have see the most looks of any NFL team, but Shockey is healthy and will be seeing a lot of TDs this year. I like him this week.

Brett Favre – He just handed the ball off all week in Week 1, but he’ll be playing the Lions in Week 2. It’s a good week to test out his arm and he will be airing it out to Bernard Berrian in this game.

Kyle Orton – If you take away the Brandon Stokely miracle catch, Orton had a tough game last week. He faces Cleveland this week and they secondary is very weak and Orton will be able to slice them up.

Marion Barber – Felix Jones has an injury and may not play at all this weekend. He will see almost all of the carries, especially goal line action. Tashard Choice could see some carries, but nothing like Jones would have received.

Pierre Garcon – DEEP LEAGUE START – Anthony Gonzalez is out and Austin Collie is a rookie and hasn’t had as much time in the offense as Garcon. He could be a nice option in a deep league or if you had Anthony Gonzalez and looking for an option better than Amani Toomer or Johnnie Lee Higgins.

SIT’EM

Anquan Boldin – He’s still injured, but he’s going to play. I would wait a week or two before he’s in your line-up. There are a few quality WR options on the waiver wire that you should pick up.

Carson Palmer – Green Bay looked amazing against Chicago and they play the Bengals in Week 2. Palmer will be seeing a lot of different coverages and will have a weak game.

Patrick Crayton – I wouldn’t go crazy over him this week. If he’s out there, pick him up, ’cause he could be good later, but Week 1 was a lucky week for him. Roy Williams is going to see a lot of balls and so will Jason Witten, leave Crayton on your bench.

Jay Cutler – This is a no-brainer sit against Pittsburgh. He has no receivers to throw to and he looked really bad against Green Bay. He needs at least two good weeks in a row for me to recommend him.

Matt Forte – He’s not going to catch as many balls as last season and he wasn’t a factor in Green Bay. I know you probably used your #1 pick this year on him, but I like Fred Jackson, who you could pick up, he’ll outscore Forte by double.

Reggie Bush – He barely sniffed the football last week and Mike Bell looked amazing. With a viable option at tight-end, Bush isn’t seeing as many short passes this season.

Joseph Addai – Donald Brown saw much more action last week than expected, so expect Addai’s production to take a hit in 2009. I see Brown taking about 60% of the carries this week against Miami.

Devin Hester – His points last week was swelled up because of a broken coverage touchdown. Pittsburgh will not break any coverage and Hester will be shutdown this week.

Philadelphia Defense – I know they put up a ton of numbers last week, but they are playing New Orleans in Week 2. They will be tested by Drew Brees and their corners will be busy. The Eagles may win the game, but Brees will put up yards, even in a loss.

Joe Flacco – He has a great Week 1, but he faces San Diego and their corners can get interceptions better than any team in the league. Flacco is still young and he’ll make mistakes.

Kevin Smith – Smith had a good game against New Orleans, but Minnesota is in town this weekend and it could get ugly. The Williams twins will stop him and Detroit will have a hard time getting any yards this weekend, on the ground or the air.

Why You Shouldn’t Draft These Players

Going into your fantasy football draft, you have a few players already planned that if they are available, you’re going to pick them. You may have an allegiance to them because they are on your favorite team or your favorite fantasy football analyst picked them to have a big year. If you’re on the fence about a few players, here are reasons why you shouldn’t pick certain players. I’m just talking you guys off the ledge, not pushing you off. All of these players will probably be great, but they all have possibilities of an epic fail this year.

Tom Brady – Did you see how his knee bent last year? Also, I’m pretty sure he’s using all of energy on Gisele Bundchen, wouldn’t you?

Aaron Rodgers – Before last season, he was known as “injury-prone,” one full season and that suddenly disappears?

DeAngelo Williams – Jonathan Stewart is a touchdown vulcher…even if he’s only 70% healthy, he’ll still get touches in the red zone.

Michael Turner – see DeAngelo Williams, but add in Tony Gonzalez as the touchdown vulcher.

Jay Cutler – It’s hard to throw a football with a pacifier in your mouth.

Peyton Manning – He spent the off-season filming commercials and Marvin Harrison is currently sitting on a couch somewhere.

Adrian Peterson – Brett Favre is in town and he’s the NFL version of Stephon Marbury, he’s a ball hog.

Donovan McNabb – He looks like he’s been eating a lot of Chunky Soup lately…probably an extra 15 pounds of beef and potatoes in his mid-section.

Matt Cassel – I hear Scott Mitchell called and he said that he wishes him the best this season.

Thomas Jones – He had more candles on his last birthday cake than touchdowns he has left in his career.

LaDanian Tomlinson – Emmit Smith looked good in a Cardinals uniform right? Jerry Rice was great for the Seahawks, right? Tomlinson will probably look good in a Texans uniform next year too.

Chad Pennington – Does he have any ligaments or tendons left in his arm?

Brian Westbrook – The Eagles have already ear-marked a spot on the injury report for him, right between Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis.

David Garrard – If he can somehow be able to throw from his back, maybe he can throw a few touchdowns.

Maurice Jones-Drew – When Warrick Dunn went to the only option in the backfield he had his worst year.

Calvin Johnson – He should probably play quarterback and throw passes to himself.

Chris Johnson – LenDale White will eat him by Week 4.

Brandon Jacobs – You should probably pick him early or he will go to your draft and give you a power-bomb courtesy of Captain Insano.

Eli Manning – You may have a better year if you draft Archie.

Steven Jackson – Remember when he was a first-round pick? Back when the Rams played like an NFL team…it’s been awhile.

Kyle Orton – Did you see his pre-season games? That’s probably why he’s still available.

Matt Schaub – Do you think he will be healthy all year this season? Didn’t you ask youself that the last two seasons?

Marion Barber – I’m sure Felix Jones won’t take any touchdowns away from him this year…even though Jerry Jones is in love with him. Nah, go ahead and draft him, yeah….yeah.

Ben Roethlisberger – After getting punished last year by an awful offensive line pass protection, they have improved it right? No? Okay, stay away from Big Ben.

Kevin Smith – He plays for the Detroit Lions.

Tony Gonzalez – The Falcons were 31st in the NFL at throwing to the tight end last season.

Terrell Owens – He will be a contestant for “I Love New York” by mid-season. No one will notice that he is gone.

Brandon Marshall – An emotional, hot-headed, receiver always does well when their team is bad. I’m sure he will keep his composure and not demand a trade. Oops!

Trent Edwards – I’m glad that he has that Stanford degree to fall back on. I hear J.P. Losman already landed a new job.

JaMarcus Russell – Al Davis bet the farm on him, but he looks like he has eaten all of the animals.

Reggie Bush – Kim Kardashian broke up with him, his year has already started horribly, do you think its going to get better?

Larry Johnson – Todd Haley loves to pass the ball, the Arizona Cardinals running attack was putrid last year.

Willie Parker – Don’t turn around, Rashard Mendenhall is right behind you.

Chad Ocho Cinco – I’m sure all that UStream experience will be handy on the field.

Joseph Addai – When your team drafts a top player at your position, how do you take it?

Braylon Edwards – Maybe he will get an endorsement for “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter,” on top of his “5-Hour Energy” endorsment money.

Darren McFadden – He plays on a team where his coach broke the face of an assistant. Sounds like a good team atmosphere for a break-out season.

Michael Vick – A few months out of prison and all the pressure to perform well to resurrect his career…you think he’ll be pretty calm and clear-minded?

Brady Quinn – Express and Limited Corporations are located in Ohio, maybe he can pose for some modeling campaigns on the sideline when he’s holding a clipboard by mid-season.

All White Boy Fantasy Football Team

Since our name is “America’s White Boy” we embrace white boys representing in professional sports. I use the term “white boy” meaning guys who are “country” and kind of don’t fit into the normal stereotypes of being a cocky, big city athlete. Who will make the pasty, pale, All-White Boy Fantasy Football Team? Check it out.

This team is going to be realistic, so for example, I won’t have Tom Brady and Peyton Manning on the team, since you wouldn’t be able to get both of those players in a draft. Plus, Tom Brady is too city and any man who can land Gisele Bundchen, doesn’t fit our definition of a “white boy.” Here is the list… Continue reading
