CBS Sports App Makes Other Sports Apps Obsolete

I fiddle with my phone a lot when I’m in public. I don’t really play games on it, but I’m always looking for something new to read. I automatically go to my favorite sports sites to read up-to-date news, but sometimes those sites aren’t very user-friendly on mobile browsers.

I recently downloaded the CBS Sports app and I find it easier to navigate than other sports sites and apps. I have deleted a handful of other sports apps since downloading this app.

I just added all my favorite teams and I can easily track the scores. I even added a few teams I don’t like, but have fantasy baseball players on my teams. Having to see St. Louis Cardinals scores is a small price to pay to keep track of Randal Grichuk and Seung-hwan Oh’s performances.

Stephenson is Back Doing ‘Lance’ Things for Pacers

The Pacers made a favorable move last week when they dropped the injured Rodney Stuckey and re-signed Lance Stephenson to a three-year deal.

Stephenson had a fairly acrimonious end to his career in Indiana a few years. He went on to sign a deal with Charlotte as a free agent. He struggled away from Indiana and even found himself bouncing around the league this year.

We still don’t really know what happened to the Pacers during the 2013-14 season. Some people pointed the finger at Stephenson, some at the Hibbert for being ‘soft’ and Paul George even got some blame. Team president Larry Bird wouldn’t have brought Stephenson back if he was to blame or maybe the ‘troublemaker’ is no longer on the team.

Wrestlemania 33: A Marathon of Mediocrity

Wrestlemania is the biggest wrestling event in the world. Every year, tens of thousands of wrestling fans cram into a huge stadium or dome and watch as the WWE trots out what they believe is the best overall wrestling card of the year.

This year’s 33rd installment of Wrestlemania occurred on Sunday in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl. Stars like John Cena, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar were put in matches with weeks-long build ups.

It should have been a home run, right?

Well, unfortunately, the 7 1/2 hour show fell flat time and time again.

I thought about writing an in-depth match-by-match review of Wrestlemania 33, but I really doubt it would have been very entertaining. Many matches lacked quality wrestling and focused more on ‘entertainment’. I will instead just mention a few thoughts about each match and give my opinion of the overall state of ‘wrestling’ in the WWE.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: April 2017

March went by pretty fast. We had a ton of new content up last month and are very pleased with the response. April will be busy as well with baseball starting up.

We found some awesome tracks for your ears this month. All but one of the tracks have been released in the last month or two. The one older track is a song by FARTBARF (yes, a real band name). It’s just amazing and I never heard it before.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content. Keep sending me tracks via email or Twitter.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 49

I’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. I started purchasing some vintage toys out of nostalgia. Well, WWE and Mattel sucked me into their new stuff. I now buy a few figures a month. You can view photos of my collection on my Instagram account.

The lineup in Elite 49 is pretty good. Five out of the six figures are the wrestler’s first elite. There are some awesome figures in this set, but I question a few accessory choices.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 49 are Becky Lynch, Enzo Amore, Big Cass, Apollo Crews, Randy Orton & Brutus Beefcake.

Joel Embiid May Need Another Surgery

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was a breath of fresh air in the NBA this season. He is great at social media, loves to poke fun at the Sixers tanking by owning the nickname ‘The Process’ and he was really, really good at basketball.

He may have only played 31 games this year, but his presence made a huge impact. He was averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game before a partially-torn meniscus sidelined him for the remainder of the year.

Embiid had to sit out two seasons after undergoing two major surgeries on his right ankle. So the Philly fanbase is worried about Embiid possibly going under the knife again.

MLB: ‘Out of Options’ Players

It’s important to know which current young MLB players that are now out of minor league options. If they are struggling, they can’t demote him unless they first put him on waivers. It would make him available for any MLB team to claim him and take on their contract. Some good players do get through waivers, but it’s due to their contract being too big to take on.

A notable player that could be affected is Dylan Bundy (Orioles) who struggled with injuries in the minors. He was once a top prospect, so the Orioles will try to keep him on the 25-man roster. He will be given every opportunity to improve while on the Major League roster.

Sports Crush: Nikki Bella

We’ve written over a dozen ‘Sports Crush’ posts since we launched AmericasWhiteBoy.com. We have spotlighted a ton of WWE Divas (Becky Lynch, Lana, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Emma and Liv Morgan). The response has been fantastic, so we decided to profile a WWE women’s superstar, Nikki Bella.

Nikki, whose real name is Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace, signed with WWE in 2007 with her twin sister Brie. She was mostly a valet for the early part of her career. They both took a year off in 2012, but came back stronger in-ring competitors. She is a two-time WWE Divas Champion and stars in two reality shows, ‘Total Divas’ and ‘Total Bellas’.

She is dating WWE superstar John Cena and rumor is she will become a part-time performer soon due to a nagging neck injury.

Why America Should Embrace Soccer

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve had at least one small brush with soccer. Soccer, or football as the rest of the world calls it, is the most popular sport on earth. Despite this, it’s something that Americans have never really embraced en-masse. While you might love basketball or our own brand of football like you could love no other sport, I think soccer is greatly misunderstood by a lot of Americans. Here are a few reasons to give it another chance…

It’s Gaining Traction

The NFL certainly isn’t in any danger of being knocked off of its pedestal in America. However, there’s no denying that soccer is steadily gaining its fandom and momentum. MLS, the US’s official professional soccer league, has a small but very passionate following, the US men’s national team boasts its own ardent fanbase, and CONCACAF Gold Cup tickets from Ticket Liquidator and other sellers are more popular than they’ve ever been. The ratings for 2014’s World Cup were also much higher in America than they’ve been in previous years. I’m not suggesting you should blindly jump on every bandwagon that comes along. However, if you think that soccer is still a tiny niche among Americans, you’re greatly mistaken!
