2018 NFL Week 2 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I started the year off on a good note by going 9-6-1 against the spread in Week 1.

Not only did some teams surprise everyone (Jets & Bucs), but there were some nice underdog moneylines that paid out.

We didn’t get out of Week 1 without dealing with some injuries. RB Leonard Fournette, WR Doug Baldwin and TE Delanie Walker all may miss multiple weeks due to injuries. It’s important to keep an eye on injury reports early in the year. There are some big names on there this week.

2018 NFL Week 1 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Were you one of those guys who bet on NFL preseason games?

I get it. You were excited to wager on football again and just jumped the gun a little. It’s now time to bet on some games that count!

We had a pretty good year betting on NFL games last year. We went 144-115-16 and hit on a few underdog moneylines to come out in the black for the season.

There are a ton of new quarterbacks making their first starts for their new teams this weekend. Veteran quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith and Sam Bradford hope to lead their new teams to successful seasons. Also, quarterbacks Andrew Luck, Deshaun Watson and Ryan Tannehill return from injuries. Which quarterback will make the biggest impact in Week 1?

Was drafting a running back in the first round a mistake? 

A strong Week 1 is good, but you can bounce back from it. There’s a chance the waiver wire could be your friend before Week 2…because there will always be those Week 1 studs that will go from 5% ownership to 90% by the second game.

2018 NFL Conference Championship Games – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 3-0-1 against the spread last week, but whiffed in my over/under picks. The last-second touchdown from Vikings WR Stefon Diggs helped me avoid a loss. I was really hoping they would kick the extra point, but they downed it instead, which lead to a push.

Weather ‘might’ be a factor since both Conference Championship games are being played outdoors. Keep a close eye on weather reports and make sure there isn’t a snowstorm or an arctic blast that pops up this weekend.

Should the Patriots really be a nine-point favorite against the Jaguars?

Can Case Keenum pull out another miracle and lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl?

2018 NFL Divisional Round Playoff Games – Betting Picks Against Spread

I whiffed on my picks against the spread last week, but my over/under picks bailed me out (a little). I went 3-5 and I’m a bit punch drunk after all the underdog covers last week.

Weather ‘could’ become a factor in the Divisional Round NFL playoff games. Pittsburgh and New England forecasts could become important information as they are playing outdoors in those games.

Should the Eagles be an underdog at home?

Can the Jaguars keep things close in Pittsburgh in what could be snowy conditions?

2017 NFL Week 17 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Week 16 was a rough one for us. We took a couple risks that didn’t pay off. I honestly thought the Browns would play much better against the Bears and that the Lions would show up to play against the lowly Bengals.

Week 17 is full of landmines since some last-minute changes could mean players end up resting and taking the week off. Keep track of possible playoff outcomes and what their head coaches are saying this week.

Every game this week is on Sunday, so this could be a rare time to completely waste your money and put a few jellybeans on a 16-team parlay…which would have odds somewhere in-between astronomical and impossible. I don’t recommend anyone ever do this unless it’s a gag and is only a few bucks.

2017 NFL Week 16 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 10-3-3 last week in an extraordinary week with favorite-heavy covers. 

I really, really hate double-digit point spreads in the NFL…but they are unavoidable at this time of the year.

Vegas is really sticking it to bettors this week since nearly every favorite won last week and they have to make their money back.

There isn’t a Thursday game this week, so I delayed my post by a day. I was surprised all the betting lines were on the board since Week 16 and 17 games are often last-minute adds with injuries and other roster changes evaluated through the week.

2017 NFL Week 15 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 10-6 last week, but thought I was going have an even better week. I thought I was well on my way to one of my upset moneyline picks paying off, but the Browns coughed up the game. I probably jinxed it since I was already counting my money…then saw the update during the Colts/Bills snowball fight. 

There are few too many double-digit point spreads this week. It’s common this time of the year, but was spoiled last week with a lot of competitive betting lines.

A couple teams have injury issues at quarterback and will need to rely on backups to keep them in the playoff race.

2017 NFL Week 14 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Even though I missed the Thursday game (again), I still finished the week 9-5-2. I forgot to update last week’s post since there wasn’t a line for last week’s Tampa Bay game at the time I wrote the post. I marked it up as a tie, just to keep things on track with past year-to-year win totals. 

I missed on a few underdogs with both the Browns and Seahawks performing better than the lines would suggest.

There are a lot of close point spreads this week. There is only one double-digit game and the rest are at or under a touchdown. This could be a difficult week to handicap.

Another speed bump we must navigate is the fact that the lion’s share of the games aren’t division games, so they are first-time meetings.

2017 NFL Week 13 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I had a perfect Thanksgiving last week. After struggling on Thursday games like it was my freakin’ job, I went 3 for 3 on Thanksgiving. I started out hot on Sunday as well, but finished the week with a 9-6-1.

The perfect Thanksgiving was a bit unexpected, but really needed. I should go back to see what my Thursday record is, but I’m almost afraid.

There are some pretty cool games coming up this weekend. A few division games that could be the difference in who wins their division.

Can the Giants find success with QB Geno Smith starting over Eli Manning?

2017 NFL Week 12 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I had a pretty sad all around betting experience last weekend. I was rocked in college football and was just so-so in the NFL. I hit on a nice parlay that saved the weekend.

I’ve historically done very well on Thanksgiving. I’ve went a perfect three-for-three in many years. I can’t promise that will happen this season as Thursday games are the bane of my existence. It’s becoming a gimmick at this point.

There are quite a few double-digit point spreads this week. We will see more and more of those as teams start to drop out of playoff contention.

2017 NFL Week 10 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Thursday night games will be the death of me. I hate them and they clearly hate me. I’m not being hyperbolic. I’ve been so bad picking that game against the spread. I’m afraid to go back and see what my Thursday night record is this year. I know I have at least two wins, but can’t remember if there are anymore than that.

There are fourteen games on the schedule this week and we will have a full sixteen game schedule in two weeks. 

There were only a couple double-digit point spreads this week. This is the time of year when we will see those more and more. We didn’t have any point spreads over two touchdowns.
