2018 March Madness: Which Bubble Teams Didn’t Get In?

There are 351 Division-I teams in college basketball eligible for the postseason 2018 NCAA Tournament. Obviously, not every team can get an invite.

These teams were all on the bubble, but failed to make it into the field of 68.

There were a few upsets in conference tournaments this year. Many deserving teams were left out of the field of 68.  I was surprised a few times during the Selection Show, but I feel good about the field overall.

How many Big 12 bubble teams missed the cut?

Here is a list of bubble teams which had their bubble burst.

USC Trojans (22-11) – USC needed to win the Pac-12 Tourmanet to get into the NCAA Tournament. They had a nice run, but the loss to Arizona in the final was the last straw. In my opinion, Andy Enfield’s team should have been in with an RPI of 35.

2017-18 College Basketball – All-Name Team

We have so many great, new entries this season. Also, many of last year’s gems are still on college teams this season.

We picked through every Division-I college basketball roster and a few smaller schools for our list. This year’s class is solid and better than last year’s All-Name Team.

My name is Bobby Roberts, so I am often jealous of people with unique names. The most unique thing about my name is that I was not born ‘Robert Roberts’, Bobby is my given name. I don’t know too many grown men named Bobby.

This list consists of names that we wished he had and ones we find humorous. Enjoy!

2017 NBA Draft – Best Undrafted Players

The NBA Draft is only two rounds and consists of a total of 60 picks, so not every good college basketball player will hear his name called during the NBA Draft.

There are still some very good players left to either sign for an NBA team’s Summer League spot in hopes of catching on with a team. Most will probably end up in the Gatorade League (former D-League) or play overseas.

I’m sure people who love ‘their team’ always wonder why the star of their team didn’t even play a single minute in the NBA.

The Draft is a tricky thing. There are only two rounds, so a lot of teams teams draft for need. There are also teams who draft people overseas to stash for a couple years.

This is not the end of the road for these players. There are many undrafted players in the NBA, so a few of these guys will still make their dreams come true in the future.

Enjoying Your Sports On A Budget

basketball-game-competition-sport-39593There’s no doubt about it. Being a sports fan can be very expensive. Getting the jersey is an obvious expenditure. Then there’s the games, from the tickets to travel and accommodation. Even betting, which can be a big part of the fun with your pals, can put a strain on the old bank balance. So, when you’re trying to fit a budget, what’s a guy to do?

Hit up a different scene

This point does need to come with a bit of a disclaimer. College sports leagues, particularly the big three of baseball, basketball, and football, do come with a cost. And the prices are rising. However, for most teams, the prices definitely don’t reach those of your favorite teams. Plus, there’s a certain joy for a real fan that comes with watching those who are going to make pro, knowing their strengths, weaknesses, and records before everyone else is talking about them a year or two down the line. Mix in some of that good old-fashioned civic pride, which can get even stronger in amateur leagues, and you still have an awesome time out.

UCLA Basketball Recruit Scores 92 in High School Game

LaMelo Ball UCLA Bruins basketball sportsLaMelo Bell, a sophomore at Chino Hills HS (California), put up 92 points in a regulation high school basketball game tonight. His older brother LiAngelo, who is a senior, sat on the bench while resting up before the playoffs start. Both are expected to eventually take the same path as their older brother Lonzo, who is currently lighting up college basketball at UCLA.

LaMelo took 61 shots tonight and was a beast close to the rim. He did hit seven three-pointers, but the bulk of his points came close in Chino Hills’ uptempo, fast break offense.

Chino Hills had a 60-game winning streak before losing to powerhouse Oak Hill. Their next game following the loss was against Los Osos tonight, so Ball took his anger out on them and won the game 146-123.

IPFW Upsets #3 Indiana in Overtime

Indiana-IPFW-Basketball upset ncaa collegeThe Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons jumped into Division-I during the 2001-02 season, a year before I attended the school. The school hasn’t beaten a ranked team in their history and have yet to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Actually, IPFW is best known for their volleyball program (yes, those exist).

IPFW upset the #3 ranked Indiana Hoosiers tonight in overtime, 71-68.

No one thought IPFW would contend against the Indiana Hoosiers when they were set to play each other at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. It wasn’t a traditional road game for the Hoosiers since the crowd was filled with cream and crimson clad fans.

Pac 12 Basketball: Who will Win the Regular Season Crown?

Jakob Poeltl Utah Utes Pac 12 college basketballPac 12 basketball championship is always a competitive with many teams going for nothing less than the title. We all know that this season is definitely no exception after the preparation the teams have undergone. Visit online oddsmakers like MyBookie.lv to find odds on which team is likely to win the season’s crown of Pac 12 Basketball Tournament.

After the slate of games on Saturday, both Oregon and Arizona are currently ranked at the top position of conference standings with 10-4. Nevertheless, Utah is also down on their necks at a 9-5 with a game in hand against USC scheduled on Sunday afternoon, whereas Cal and USC follow Utah at 8-5. This would make it a tight championship to predict.

For many years, Pac 12 has been more a five-team race in between the schools, but odds thus boiling down to either Oregon or Arizona. Unluckily, these two teams will not face-off anymore in this year’s regular season. Arizona was beaten by Oregon in their single match-up earlier in Arizona, where they won by 83-75

Review: “Wooden: A Coach’s Life” by Seth Davis

WoodenCoach'sLifeSethDavisBookReviewI was sent “Wooden: A Coach’s Life” two months ago and it took me quite awhile to finish the 608-page behemoth. I usually avoid books this length, not because I hate reading, but I often read a few books at a time. I thought this would be a pain to read due to its length, but I found myself really looking forward to my time with the book.

John Wooden is the best basketball coach of all-time. Not just the best college basketball coach, but I believe he is the best basketball coach at any level. His X’s & O’s were great, but he made boys into young men. His ‘Pyramid of Success’ is more about life than it is about basketball.

CBS Sports college basketball analyst Seth Davis really made a work of art. He was able to get inside the mind of Wooden. He’s a talented author and this book is on par or better than his great Larry Bird/Magic Johnson book, “When March Went Mad”.
