2018 NBA Draft – Best Undrafted Players

The NBA Draft is two rounds and consists of just 60 picks, so not every good college basketball player will hear his name called during the NBA Draft. Many NBA teams opt to select players with a higher upside and some of those picks are foreign players they wish to just stash overseas.

There are still some very good players left to either sign for an NBA team’s Summer League spot in hopes of catching on with a team. Most will probably end up in the Gatorade League or play overseas.

I’m sure people who love ‘their team’ always wonder why the star of their team didn’t even play a single minute in the NBA.

This is not the end of the road for these players. There are many undrafted players in the NBA, so a few of these guys will still make their dreams come true in the future.

Here are the best undrafted players not selected in the 2018 NBA Draft.

reDRAFT – 2009 NBA Draft

It’s been awhile since we did an NBA reDRAFT.

The 2018 NBA Draft takes place this week, so it’s a good time to look back at a past NBA Draft.

The 2009 NBA draft class is top-heavy with two Hall of Fame talents and one that could be right-at-the-border by the time he retires.

Yes, Steph Curry, James Harden and Blake Griffin get all the attention in this draft, but the draft class as a whole is underrated. There are a handful of All-Stars as well as guys like Ricky Rubio, who is coming off what may have been his best season of his career. There are a few other late-bloomers that make up the top thirty picks of the 2009 NBA reDRAFT.

Toy Crazy: Summer 2018 WWE Funko Releases

We covered some upcoming Funko releases late last year. Those figures are already in my collection and look fantastic. Funko is set to release even more pop vinyl figures this Summer.

We have reviewed a lot of Mattel’s WWE Elite figures, but Funko has also released solid figures in the past. I’m a big collector and you can see some of my collection on my Instagram, @vintagetoybob.

I’ve plugged another site in a few previous Mattel/Funko posts, but if you’re looking to order Funko figures, I’d trust DCtoys.net. I’ve bought from the seller before and he is highly reputable. The best of the best for sure. You can use code ‘FREESHIPPING‘ for free domestic shipping.

Here are some pictures of Funko’s Summer 2018 WWE POP! vinyl releases.

‘America’s White Boy’ 2018 NBA Mock Draft

The 2018 NBA Draft is top-heavy, but there is a plethora of two-guards that could be had late in the first round that are good enough to be stick around in the league for many years.

This year’s draft takes place next week on June 21st, but it looks like the first pick in the draft is already off the board. The Phoenix Suns is expected to draft Arizona Wildcats center DeAndre Ayton. Many thought Slovenian star Luka Doncic or Duke’s Marvin Bagley III would have been the first off the board.

The NBA draft pool this year is full of players who made a name for themselves in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova could have as many as four players taken in the first round.

Here is the ‘America’s White Boy’ 2018 NBA Mock Draft.

CM Punk Should Have Never Fought in UFC

This isn’t breaking news, but professional wrestling and mixed martial arts are two very different things.

CM Punk had his second MMA fight of his career…and it was really, really bad.

Mike Jackson, a former Golden Gloves boxer and MMA journalist, handed Punk an embarrassing loss at UFC 225. Punk gassed out after the first two minutes of the fight. Jackson then spent the rest of the fight just playing with him. He could have finished Punk at any point, but it was almost as if he wanted to show the world how inept Punk was as a fighter. Punk was doing things BJJ white belts wouldn’t even do in practice. He was over-matched, completely gassed and was just getting his face beaten in.

Early Heisman Trophy Betting Favorites

It’s only June, but it’s never too early to start thinking about your college football betting strategy.

The betting odds for the 2018-19 Heisman Trophy were released today. This list is full of many new names, but one of this year’s favorites isn’t new to preseason Heisman buzz. Last year’s Heisman runner-up Stanford RB Bryce Love is near the top of this year’s early Heisman favorites.

Is is a lock for Love will win the Heisman this season? Early Heisman favorites haven’t been so lucky in recent years. Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is the only early top favorite in the last decade that went on to win the Heisman. Last year’s winner Oklahoma Baker Mayfield had the second-best odds of winning it going into last season, behind USC QB Sam Darnold.

Who are this year’s early Heisman favorites? Do any standout as a nice value bet?

2018 MLB Draft: All-Name Team

The 2018 MLB Amateur Draft took place this week. Over 1,200 young men were selected and a few of them could be all-time greats.

The Detroit Tigers started the draft off by selecting one of the best college pitchers in the draft, Casey Mize. Detroit desperately needs pitching now and Mize is expected to be fast-tracked through the minors as he was one of the most MLB-ready pitchers in this year’s draft pool. I expect Mize will be in the Majors by late-2019 or early-2020.

We love making all-name team lists for upcoming seasons and drafts, so covering the MLB Draft is a no-brainer. There is some solid names on this year’s list.

My name is Bobby Roberts, so I am often jealous of people with unique names. The most unique thing about my name is that I was not born ‘Robert Roberts’, Bobby is my given name. I don’t know too many grown men named Bobby.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – June 3rd

We are now nine weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

As temperatures rise, so do more baseballs. Power numbers really get cranked into overdrive in June and July. Don’t sleep on power hitters off to slow starts. J.D. Martinez and Josh Donaldson both didn’t get hot until this time last year.

There are a few teams recently changed closers and a few more could lose their jobs soon due to poor performance and/or trades. Who should you target on the waiver wire?

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe a couple young guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on June 3rd, 2018.

I’ll be posting a weekly fantasy baseball F/M/K every Sunday this baseball season…so keep coming back!

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: June 2018

It’s nearly June and it’s starting to feel like it outside. It has been in the 90’s for nearly a week. I live in Indiana, so it’s pretty noteworthy.

A few years ago, I did a ‘cover song month’ during June. I had a lot of fun doing it, but a lot of work was put into it…and not a lot of sports (or anything else) was covered that month. I threw in a few cover songs on this month’s playlist to pay homage to past Junes.

Most musicians get their start by playing cover songs at live shows. Some venues won’t even book a musician if they don’t play some covers (and hopefully mix in some of their original music). I think it’s important to showcase a musician’s ability to adapt a popular song and make it their own.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content. Keep sending me tracks via email or Twitter.

If you want to listen to songs that appeared on past playlists, you can listen to our playlist on Spotify or go here to view our past hipster playlists.

MLB – Think About the Playoffs

All 30 MLB teams enter the 2018 season with a fighting spirit of achieving end of season glory. Yet the ongoing arms race among the top teams dwindle the number of legitimate playoff contenders. Just a few number of fans will not like their team’s listed odds of triumphing in the Fall Classic in the MLB sports betting odds. When powerhouses like the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Indians appear as immovable obstacles, even a solid club with feasible playoff dreams becomes an overwhelming underdog.

Supporters of top-tier squads will also desire and wish for a higher championship probability, but no one team could cart away with favorable odds since winner must survive a grueling and unpredictable postseason hurdles.
