We’ve written a handful of ‘Sports Crush‘ posts since we launched America’s White Boy. We’ve spotlighted female MMA fighters, WWE Divas and female sports reporters like MLB Network’s Heidi Watney and NFL Network’s Erin Coscarelli. We decided to profile another female sports reporter, former NESN reporter and current NFL on CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell.

Dell first made national news when NESN decided to let her go after her relationship with Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks was made public. They are now engaged and her career couldn’t have gone in a better direction. She is now a sideline reporter on CBS during NFL telecasts.

We are crushing on Jenny Dell and once you look at our photo gallery, you will understand why.

MLB: Should You Buy Into September Stats?

After the September roster expansion, MLB teams become diluted. You no longer have the best of the best facing against each other. Young players are brought up to get seasoning and Four-A players are also given time so teams can rest their stars (especially if a team is out of the playoff race).

If you play fantasy baseball, you’re always looking for an edge. Some of these players are going to look great, because they are facing sub-standard pitching/hitting every couple days.

I will show you some examples and explain to you why I am either buying or selling their stats so far in September.

Is Washington Better Without Robert Griffin III?

If you watched the Washington Redskins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game on Sunday, I’m sorry. You are either a fan of one of those teams (sorry!) or you have a bunch of Jaguars and Redskins on your fantasy team (again, sorry!).

Washington defeated Jacksonville 41-10, but played most of the game without ‘star’ quarterback Robert Griffin III. RGIII dislocated his ankle in the first quarter.

Backup Kirk Cousins came into the game and immediately threw for a 20-yard touchdown. The crowd went crazy and RGIII looked like someone stole his girl.

Are the Redskins better off with Cousins as their quarterback?

2014 NFL Week 2 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I cannot explain the euphoria I felt while watching NFL Sunday Ticket last weekend. I remembered why I pony up every month for DirecTV. I also went 9-7 against the spread and hit on a few underdog moneylines…so that was nice too.

I had a decent season betting against the spread in the NFL last season (133-95-10). Any year you hit nearly 60% of the NFL games against the spread is a damn good year. I hope to keep it going in 2014.

I went heavy on road teams this week. I usually try to avoid road team favorites this early in the year, but they just make sense. You definitely need to do your homework this week and don’t fall in love with a team after Week 1.

We pick every NFL game against the spread and throw out a few upsets in Week 2 of the 2014 NFL season.

2014 NCAA Football – Week 3 Betting Picks Against Spread

Week 2 of the college football season was very hit or miss. Many of the large spreads missed by a point or two and the Big Ten failed in grand fashion. I ended up going 9-10-1 on the week and I don’t feel bad about it. I know a lot of people who went heavy on the Big Ten and took a big loss. Lucky for us, there are actually a few favorable Big Ten point spreads this week.

You now have a (little) better idea of how a team may perform this season…even if they’ve only faced small conference teams.

We were 134-79-8 against the spread betting on college football games last season. We hope to keep it going and help you guys out again this season.

We pick against the spread for all the big college football games on Saturday (September 13th, 2014), a few smaller conference games and a Thursday night game. Enjoy!

Are the Washington Redskins the Worst Team in the League?

In the NFL, there are always people trying to make predictions after each week. It is the nature of the game, especially with so much dead time during the week to speculate. After just one week of action in the NFL in 2014, there are more than a few people who think that the Washington Redskins might just be the worst team in the NFL this year. They have 15 more games to prove that statement to be false, but in their opener against the Houston Texans, many things went wrong.

People in fantasy football were very optimistic about what Robert Griffin III could bring to the table in 2014. Many people thought that he would be 100% healthy going into the year after having to deal with some nagging issues last season. Instead, he struggled through the preseason, and he looked awful at times against Houston as well. Granted, Houston has a pretty strong defense, but people still expected him to be a little bit more effective.

The Ray Rice Video Strengthens NFLPA’s Bargaining Power

I haven’t posted about the Ray Rice scandal for a reason. I try to keep things light, but here’s Keith Olbermann going ‘scorched Earth’ on Goodell. If I do speak about something serious, I want to have a different take on a subject.

I’m going to look through all the people and issues that we all agree are pretty horrible (Ray Rice, Roger Goodell, Atlantic City, etc.) and look at the business/union side of this issue. Ray Rice could single-handedly change the way other players are disciplined in the future…for the better.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association have been working on a new drug testing program that will allow the league to test the players for human growth hormone, but in order for that to happen, it needs to be collectively bargained (aka you get something, we get something).

2014 NCAA Football – Week 2 Betting Picks Against Spread

If you were wondering why I didn’t write a post picking college football games against the spread last week, here’s the reason why…I never bet Week 1 in college football. I find it almost pointless. You don’t know much about the teams because you just hear what amounts to propaganda. I find no joy in betting a 50-point spread.

I start my college football betting in Week 2. You still have some horrible lines and many teams in the power conferences don’t even have betting lines. You at least have a better idea of how a team may perform this season. I just hate going into the season blind. You at least have the preseason in the NFL to look at what you’re ‘buying’.

The preseason is (finally) over and we can now bet on real NFL games!

Going into Week 1, you should take what you learned in the preseason with a grain of salt. The players who played the most, probably won’t be huge factors this week. There is a reason they felt comfortable having them play a lot in meaningless games. Just look at the stats in the first and second quarter when looking at preseason box scores.

2014 College Football: All-Name Team

The college football season kicks off tonight…but it doesn’t officially start until we post our yearly all-name team.

We went through all the teams in the top two divisions in the NCAA. We read every name and picked out the ones that were funny and names we just wish we had.

My name is Bobby Roberts, so of all the people who can write a post poking fun at names, it’s me. I’m always asked if my real name is Robert Roberts (it’s not) or if my name is fake.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: August 2014

Sorry about putting this month’s Hipster Music Playlist up late. I’ve been dealing with some medical issues and a case of the ‘it hurts to sit up to type words’.

August is hit or miss for for great, new music. Bands are preparing their Fall/Winter releases, so bands often wait until after August to release new material.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Richard Marx or Ace of Base (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

Here are 15 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. All of the songs are fresh and most have only been released within the last two months.

The All-Star Game is over and pennant races are heating up (for many teams). On the other side of the coin, there are a handful of teams that are playing for next season and beyond. Those teams usually have a stockpile of prospects on the verge of making their MLB debuts.

This post features the game’s top prospects and their estimated time of arrival.

Kris Bryant, Byron Buxton, Javier Baez and others have their team’s fans drooling. Fans are usually impatient when it comes to prospects…especially if their team is near the bottom of the standings.
