2017 MLB Season Preview: Chicago Cubs

2017 MLB Season Team Preview Chicago Cubs David Ross World SeriesThe Cubs finally did it. They curse was officially broken. If something bad happens during the season, we can no longer blame some supernatural force.

This season will be a weird one. As a Cubs fan, I usually come into the season with a little optimism, but mostly waiting for the impending doom and gloom to arrive. Even if the team gets off to a slow start in April, these guys basically have a lifetime pass, right?

Jason Heyward played with a broken swing for the entire season. He spent the offseason rebuilding it from scratch. How long will the Cubs stick with him if he struggles again?

I usually mess with all the MLB team preview photos in MS Paint as a joke, but this photo of David Ross getting carried off is just too damn perfect.

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Chicago Cubs.

2017 MLB Season Preview: Boston Red Sox

2017 MLB Season Team Preview Boston Red Sox Chris Sale funnyThe AL East is always a cut-throat division. Teams tend to make really bold moves just to show their fanbase they are trying to compete. The Red Sox have made some bad moves in the past when trying to keep up with the Yankees (Carl Crawford, Dice K), but they usually know when to go for it.

The Red Sox definitely ‘went for it’ by giving up a lot of prospects for starter Chris Sale. They have him under contract for three more years, so it’s not like they gave up a ton for just a rental player.

Pablo Sandoval arrived at Spring Training in great shape. Can he maintain this weight or will it be an issue again by the All Star break?

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Boston Red Sox.

2017 MLB Season Preview: Baltimore Orioles

2017 MLB Season Team Preview Baltimore Orioles Seth Smith funnyBaltimore decided to keep Buck Showalter after his managerial boner in the AL Wild Card game last year. I bet Zach Britton will be called to pitch in more tied extra innings games this season.

The AL East bounced back last season after a poor 2015 season. The Yankees and Red Sox made trades to improve their teams and the Orioles and Blue Jays both made it to the Wild Card game last year. I expect another four-team chase all season. An injury or trade could be the difference between first and fourth place in the AL East.

How will Mark Trumbo perform after getting rewarded with a new deal?

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Baltimore Orioles.

2017 MLB Season Preview: Atlanta Braves

2017 MLB Season Team Preview Atlanta Braves Bartolo Colon funnyThe Atlanta Braves have made some interesting moves. The team has mostly relied on young talent over the last few seasons while rebuilding, but they turned the page and acquired some veterans who were once All Stars.

The Braves now have two former Cy Young winners in their rotation (Bartolo Colon & R.A. Dickey) and have acquired two other former All Stars since just before last seasons’s trade deadline (Matt Kemp & Brandon Phillips).

Both of the former Cy Young winners are over the age of 40, but if they can get 175 innings out of each of them, they will be worth their salary to mentor their young talent.

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Atlanta Braves.

2017 MLB Season Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks

2017 MLB Season Team Preview Arizona Diamondbaks Taijuan Walker funnyFormer Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo takes over as manager for the Diamondbacks this season. The team has a lot of needs, but does have a true ace with Zack Greinke and an All-Star power hitter in Paul Goldschmidt. Most managers don’t take over a team with those kind of cornerstones. The rest of the roster needs work, but new general manager Mike Hazen could make some moves this season.

The NL West is one of the best divisions in baseball with the Dodgers and Giants expected to battle for playoff spots. How long until Arizona is in that mix?

Will Arizona make some huge in-season trades in hopes of rebuilding or will the new general manager try to avoid a lengthy rebuild and just attempt to retool?

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Get Ready for MLB Team Season Previews on AmericasWhiteBoy.com

2017 mlb team previews Chicago CubsWe are about a month away from having real baseball taking the field (sorry, not counting Spring Training).

I love this time of the year! After a Winter of hot stove dealings, rosters start to materialize, but aren’t quite set in stone. Usually fourth and fifth spots in the starting rotations are up for grabs and at least one starting position on every team could change from now until Opening Day.

The Chicago Cubs come into the season as defending champs for the first time since the start of the 1909 season.

How will they perform without all the pressure of trying to win their first World Series championship in over a century? Will they be even better or did pressure turn them into diamonds last year?

Enjoying Your Sports On A Budget

basketball-game-competition-sport-39593There’s no doubt about it. Being a sports fan can be very expensive. Getting the jersey is an obvious expenditure. Then there’s the games, from the tickets to travel and accommodation. Even betting, which can be a big part of the fun with your pals, can put a strain on the old bank balance. So, when you’re trying to fit a budget, what’s a guy to do?

Hit up a different scene

This point does need to come with a bit of a disclaimer. College sports leagues, particularly the big three of baseball, basketball, and football, do come with a cost. And the prices are rising. However, for most teams, the prices definitely don’t reach those of your favorite teams. Plus, there’s a certain joy for a real fan that comes with watching those who are going to make pro, knowing their strengths, weaknesses, and records before everyone else is talking about them a year or two down the line. Mix in some of that good old-fashioned civic pride, which can get even stronger in amateur leagues, and you still have an awesome time out.

Playing Sports at Home Isn’t as Lame as You Think

pexels-photo-29011When people think of sports, they usually think of going out into the great outdoors and having fun with their friends in a giant field. For instance, football is a fantastic physical sport but you’re going to need a lot of people to play with you and a huge field with goal posts and everything. Tennis is great too, but you won’t be able to play without a net. Golf is another excellent sport, but you won’t be able to play it unless you make regular trips to a course and have expensive gear. This is why we usually make sports a group outing so that we can go to a field or a park to play. However, what about playing sports at home? Is it as lame or boring as people make it out to be?

You Won’t Want To Miss Out On These Sporting Events This Year!

football-1666274_960_720There really is nothing like seeing a sport played live. The rush of energy that surges through the crowd when a player does something amazing. The tension as the clock ticks down when a match is so close. Wondering if a player is going to beat their personal best. The sheer sense of camaraderie and community that forms when you’re in the stands cheering without hundreds, even thousands, of other people all swept up in the love of the game. Sure you can watch a lot of it on TV or online these days, but it simply doesn’t capture the sheer magic of getting to see it happen in person. Not only that but there are some events that are the kinds of things that you really do need to see in person. With that in mind, here are some amazing sporting events that you won’t want to miss in 2017.

The Kings Have No Idea What They Are Doing

DeMarcus Cousins trade New Orleans Pelicans Sacramento Kings NBA hot stoveThe Sacramento Kings keep showing the world how NOT to run an NBA team.

Owner Vivek Ranadive was supposed to bring life to the stagnant Kings franchise, but since he took over ownership a few years ago, they just keep making huge mistakes.

The Kings agreed to trade potential franchise cornerstone DeMarcus Cousins (and Omri Casspi and a second-round 2017 pick) to the New Orleans Pelicans for rookie Buddy Hield, former Kings player Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and a top-three protected first-round pick.

I realize Cousins was a cancer in the Kings locker room, but I think he’s at a level that a team in Sacramento’s current situation should exhaust all attempts to appease him. I realize that the Kings were going to have to pony up a huge contract extension soon, but I think this trade was a huge mistake.

Outdoor Activities Worth Getting Out Of Bed For

Muggle QuidditchThe problem with trying to get fit is you are also trying to battle something incredibly boring. If something is fun then you’re more likely to do it. For example, how is it that you know all the lyrics to Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang, yet don’t know the Periodic Table. Simple. The Periodic Table is so boring. So, what happens when you apply the same rules to getting fit? Well, you find yourself taking part in some totally alternative activities that grow your smile while shrinking your waistline. Now that is a winning situation. Smiling and sweating, something that was once an oxymoron, and yet now a reality, and one that will let you remain as far away from a serious sportsman as you want.

Quidditch

Okay, so there is no flying in the real sense of the term, but there is a chance to use your imagination in the same way you probably did when you were a kid. Also, who doesn’t want to play Quidditch (except for Piers Morgan who claims to never have read Harry Potter simply because he doesn’t want to concede to JK Rowling)? It may be embarrassing, but it is definitely going to make you smile. Just the names of equipment is going to make you smile, as you run around chasing after Quaffles and Bludgers and Snitches and all sorts. That’s our favourite bit, the Snitch. In the books and the films, it is a little gold ball that has wings and darts about so fast that the Seekers have a real job just keeping their ye on it, nevermind catching it. But, oh no, not in real-life Quidditch, where the Snitch is a tennis ball in a sock that gets tucked into The Snitch Runner’s shorts, who then has to run away from the Seekers. Continue reading

2017 NBA All-Star Weekend Betting Odds & Picks

King Cake Baby NBA All Star Game 2017 betting oddsNBA All-Star Weekend is a fun time for NBA players to bask in their fame and rub elbows with celebrities. The game itself is usually high-scoring, but doesn’t get competitive until the fourth quarter, if it is close at all.

Some may even say the highlight of the weekend is the skills competitions that take place on Saturday night. The Slam Dunk competition has a few names in it, but nothing like the stars that would enter in its golden era. The three-point competition is probably my favorite competition of the night since there’s rarely ever something new tried in the dunk contest these days.

We list the betting odds for the All-Star Game MVP, Dunk Contest, Three-Point Competition, Rising Stars Game MVP and Skills competition winners. We also pick some winners for the prop bets.

Can D-League rookie Derrick Jones Jr. win the Slam Dunk Contest?
