Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: August 2017

I have found a lot of good music for this month’s playlist. This music playlist started with 15 songs when it started a few years ago, then to 20 and then 25 a few months ago. Well, this list is 30 songs this month.

I don’t expect it to be 30 going forward, but I was just finding so much great stuff the last couple weeks. I still have some leftovers that will be (hopefully) incorporated next month.

I usually try to post this either a few days before the month or a day or two into the next. You know I’m having issues either finding new stuff that I love…or have way too much and try to whittle the list down as much as possible. The rate of awesome music released the last two months was just insane.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content. Keep sending me tracks via email or Twitter.

What Is The Future Of The Music Industry?

The music industry was so simple before the internet came along. The record company would sign a band, give them an advance to make an album, and then market it. If you wanted to listen to that album, you went into a record store and bought it. The label took their disproportionate cut, but the band still ended up making a decent amount of money. Everybody was a winner. When it came to touring, it was just promotion for the album, that was where all of the cash came from.

These days things look completely different. The internet has upended the way that the music industry works entirely. The jury is still out on whether that’s a good thing or not, but regardless of whether you like it or not, the way that you buy and listen to music is wildly different to what it was a couple of decades ago.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: July 2017

I have found a lot of good music for this month’s playlist. It expanded to 25 tracks for a second month in a row. Also, a band this month did something that almost never happens, they appear twice on this playlist.

I don’t think having 25 tracks on a playlist every month will become the norm, but it is needed this Summer. I haven’t been able to cut the playlist down to 20 the last two months.

Now, this isn’t about sitting cross-legged on the floor and chanting “om” until you see the inner light! Oh no! This is about picking the right hobby that makes you forget about your worries, and that’s really all that meditation is. If you can relax and forget the world by breathing deeply until you feel on another plain, then that’s great, but for a lot of us, being told to sit and think about nothing is not going to work. What about us that are so stressed in life, that being told to sit back and not get stressed isn’t going to work! March went by pretty fast. We had a ton of new content up last month and are very pleased with the response. April will be busy as well with baseball starting up.
