2017 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 17

It’s officially CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK! I know some leagues ended last week, but those leagues are lame. A team has to really go the extra effort to win if the championship game includes Week 17.

Week 17 can often be extremely difficult to navigate since teams take out their stars if they have nothing to play for and there are sometimes unreal performances from young, hungry players that are playing for big contracts this coming offseason. It’s just a weird week and a team should have to play this week to deserve the title as ‘fantasy football champion.’

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 17 of the 2017 NFL season…and enjoy our strange MS Paint masterpiece of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

2017 NFL Week 16 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 10-3-3 last week in an extraordinary week with favorite-heavy covers. 

I really, really hate double-digit point spreads in the NFL…but they are unavoidable at this time of the year.

Vegas is really sticking it to bettors this week since nearly every favorite won last week and they have to make their money back.

There isn’t a Thursday game this week, so I delayed my post by a day. I was surprised all the betting lines were on the board since Week 16 and 17 games are often last-minute adds with injuries and other roster changes evaluated through the week.

2017 NFL Week 15 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 10-6 last week, but thought I was going have an even better week. I thought I was well on my way to one of my upset moneyline picks paying off, but the Browns coughed up the game. I probably jinxed it since I was already counting my money…then saw the update during the Colts/Bills snowball fight. 

There are few too many double-digit point spreads this week. It’s common this time of the year, but was spoiled last week with a lot of competitive betting lines.

A couple teams have injury issues at quarterback and will need to rely on backups to keep them in the playoff race.

2017 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 15

The playoffs are afoot and you still may still have a few needs to fill.

You could be in need of a quarterback if you had Carson Wentz, who tore his ACL. You may also need streaming options for defenses, tight ends or flex spots in your lineup. You can never be too comfortable with your roster, since a guy on the waiver wire could have an unreal match-up this weekend.

2017 NFL Week 14 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Even though I missed the Thursday game (again), I still finished the week 9-5-2. I forgot to update last week’s post since there wasn’t a line for last week’s Tampa Bay game at the time I wrote the post. I marked it up as a tie, just to keep things on track with past year-to-year win totals. 

I missed on a few underdogs with both the Browns and Seahawks performing better than the lines would suggest.

There are a lot of close point spreads this week. There is only one double-digit game and the rest are at or under a touchdown. This could be a difficult week to handicap.

Another speed bump we must navigate is the fact that the lion’s share of the games aren’t division games, so they are first-time meetings.

2017 NFL Week 13 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I had a perfect Thanksgiving last week. After struggling on Thursday games like it was my freakin’ job, I went 3 for 3 on Thanksgiving. I started out hot on Sunday as well, but finished the week with a 9-6-1.

The perfect Thanksgiving was a bit unexpected, but really needed. I should go back to see what my Thursday record is, but I’m almost afraid.

There are some pretty cool games coming up this weekend. A few division games that could be the difference in who wins their division.

Can the Giants find success with QB Geno Smith starting over Eli Manning?

2017 NFL Week 12 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I had a pretty sad all around betting experience last weekend. I was rocked in college football and was just so-so in the NFL. I hit on a nice parlay that saved the weekend.

I’ve historically done very well on Thanksgiving. I’ve went a perfect three-for-three in many years. I can’t promise that will happen this season as Thursday games are the bane of my existence. It’s becoming a gimmick at this point.

There are quite a few double-digit point spreads this week. We will see more and more of those as teams start to drop out of playoff contention.

Can I win a damn Thursday game? Let’s do this!

2017 NFL Week 11 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I managed to not take a loss last Thursday…because it was a push. I hate Thursday games and I’ve pulled out my hair watching those games. They are just poorly played and have been difficult to handicap.

I finished last week .500, but it’s time to have a big week. I feel pretty good about the lines this week. There’s only one double-digit point spread, which is pretty rare this late in the season.

There are fourteen games on the schedule for the last week. There will be sixteen games a week starting next weekend.

Can the Patriots (-6.5) cover on the West Coast?

2017 NFL Week 10 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Thursday night games will be the death of me. I hate them and they clearly hate me. I’m not being hyperbolic. I’ve been so bad picking that game against the spread. I’m afraid to go back and see what my Thursday night record is this year. I know I have at least two wins, but can’t remember if there are anymore than that.

There are fourteen games on the schedule this week and we will have a full sixteen game schedule in two weeks. 

There were only a couple double-digit point spreads this week. This is the time of year when we will see those more and more. We didn’t have any point spreads over two touchdowns.

2017 NFL Week 9 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I had a solid week picking NFL games against the spread last week. I went 9-4, but totally whiffed on the Thursday game (again). Miami ended up playing one of the worst games this season.

There are thirteen games on the schedule again with six teams on bye. There are only two more weeks of byes and then we are back to a full 16-game schedule.

The slate of games last week was very enjoyable. I especially loved the Seattle/Houston game. Hell, the Colts/Bengals game was even unexpectedly close in the final minutes.

2017 NFL Week 7 – Betting Picks Against Spread

Your boy got roughed up a bit last week. I went 6-8 and a few games were pretty ugly. I was doing well this year, but I didn’t adjust a few of my rankings. It didn’t help that injuries to quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Jameis Winston probably decided two of those games.

There are fifteen games on the schedule this week. The only two teams that are on bye are the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions

I may have had a down week, but I did accomplish something…I broke my Thursday Night Football streak of ineptitude. The Eagles bailed me out with their cover at Carolina.

Can the Falcons (+3.5) win in their Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots?

2017 NFL Week 6 – Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 8-5-1 last week against the spread.

I once again hit all the late games and went 1-0-1 ATS on Sunday and Monday nights. I just need to do better on my Thursday and early game picks. I would have hit the Thursday game, but current former Tampa Bay kicker Nick Folk forgot how to use his feet.

This is the first week I have noticed a big uptick in double-digit point spreads. Those will become more rampant as the season goes on, but I didn’t find this week’s double-digit point spreads to be egregious.

Can the Chiefs keep winning and beat the Steelers Sunday afternoon?

Will my Thursday Night Football streak of futility snap this week?
