Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: February 2015

hipster funny playlist trash meme America's White Boy Hipster Music Playlist weirdFebruary is usually a pretty bad month here in the Midwest. Tons of snow makes for quite a hermetic lifestyle. You watch a lot of Netflix and try to find something to pass the time. We hope this month’s Hipster Music Playlist helps out.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Richard Marx or Ace of Base (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

Here are 15 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. Your ears will thank you for listening!

10 Must-See Bands at Coachella (You May Not Have Heard)

Coachella 2015 lineupCoachella is a three-day music festival held in Southern California every Summer. It has turned into a music lover’s dream with some of the biggest names in music. It even streams live on YouTube every year.

This year’s lineup for the event was recently announced. We all know the headliners (AC/DC, Jack White, Drake, etc), but this is a three-day festival. A ton of lesser-known bands/artists play and get added to the lineup in small print.

We are here to help point you in the right direction and maybe let you know about some bands you didn’t know existed…and will all be playing Coachella in 2015.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: January 2015

funny hipster weird music playlist meme nerd geek2014 was a memorable year for the site. We had a record number in visitors. I want to thank everyone for making the site a fun place. I need to think of something special to do. In the meantime, we prepared a nice Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist this month.

January is usually an extremely slow month for music. I did manage to find some new material and a few gems off some albums released late last year.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: Top 25 Songs of 2014

Nick Offerman Funny Parks and Recreation Ron Swanson hipster artI’ve made a Hipster Music Playlist nearly every month this year (I think I missed one). Each playlist has 15 fresh indie songs, so I’ve posted 165 songs this year.

I glazed through my ‘America’s White Boy Hipster Music Playlist‘ on Spotify and picked out the best 25 tracks I’ve posted this year. It took me quite awhile to narrow the list down (the last five were really hard to omit).

I was thinking about doing a ‘best albums of 2014’ list, but I fear it would take forever to whittle down to an easy, round number. There are at least 75 albums that deserve to be mentioned.

This list is all over the place. It has a little something for everyone. Also, if you’re a fan of Nick Offerman, he’s in two videos on this list (FIDLAR & The Decemberists). I would love for him to exclusively be a music video actor once his Ron Swanson role wraps up on NBC’s “Parks & Recreation”

You can also find this list on Spotify in its own separate playlist. Enjoy!

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: December 2014

Hipster Santa hipster music playlist December 2014It’s the last month of 2014 (that was weird to type). It was a pretty memorable year in music, but the only album to exceed one million albums sold was Taylor Swift’s new album (sorry music industry). It’s unfortunate because a ton of awesome music was released. People intake music in different ways, but mostly it’s via torrent.

Dear Taylor Swift, Spotify Doesn’t Need You

Weird Taylor Swift funny spotify stupid face memeTaylor Swift recently made news when she pulled her new music from the popular streaming service Spotify. She wasn’t the first artist to take a stand and pull their material. The Black Keys pulled their “El Camino” album back in 2011, but it was only off the service for the first few months of its release. They clearly wanted strong sales and not many other artists have pulled material since.

Swift sold 1.2 million copies of “1989” in its first week. It is the first album this year to have eclipsed one million in sales…for the year!

There isn’t another artist that could have done this and survived. One could argue that she would have sold just as many or slightly less if she kept her music on Spotify. It could have went bad in a hurry, but she’s Taylor Swift and can do no wrong.

Hipster Weird Funny America's White Boy Hipster Music Playlist August 2014Sorry about putting this month’s Hipster Music Playlist up late. I’ve been dealing with some medical issues and a case of the ‘it hurts to sit up to type words’.

August is hit or miss for for great, new music. Bands are preparing their Fall/Winter releases, so bands often wait until after August to release new material.
