We are now ten weeks into the 2018 fantasy baseball season.

This week saw some fantasy studs come off the disabled list…and we also saw some consistent fantasy contributors land on the dreaded DL.

Which hot hitters are we suggesting to pick up this week?

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe a couple young guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on June 10th, 2018.

I’ll be posting a weekly fantasy baseball F/M/K every Sunday this baseball season…so keep coming back!

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – June 3rd

We are now nine weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

As temperatures rise, so do more baseballs. Power numbers really get cranked into overdrive in June and July. Don’t sleep on power hitters off to slow starts. J.D. Martinez and Josh Donaldson both didn’t get hot until this time last year.

There are a few teams recently changed closers and a few more could lose their jobs soon due to poor performance and/or trades. Who should you target on the waiver wire?

2018 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers come into the season with a payroll of $178 million. That amount is due to rise soon with ace Clayton Kershaw in a contract opt-out year and a few young players due to hit arbitration in the coming years. The front office may need to make some hard decisions when it comes to money.

Those decisions are at least a year away, so the Dodgers just need to use their resources to improve this year’s team. They could be in the market for bullpen help as they get closer to the playoffs.

Can the Giants or Rockies catch them in the NL West?

Here is the 2018 MLB season preview for the Los Angels Dodgers.

2017 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

2017-MLB-Season-Team-Preview-Los-Angeles-Dodgers-Logan-Forsythe-funnyThe Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest payroll in the Majors by more than $20 million. That number could increase over the next few years when they extend Corey Seager and Joc Pederson. As crazy as it sounds, they’ve still actually been pretty smart with their signings.

The Dodgers have set themselves up to be a contender in the National League for many years to come. They even have a pretty good farm system, which isn’t anything new for the Dodgers. They’ve historically done a good job maintaining a stockpile of top prospects.

Will the Dodgers run away with the NL West or will the Giants keep it close?

Here is the 2017 MLB season preview for the Los Angels Dodgers.

2016 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

Kenta-Maeda-los-angeles-dodgers-2016-mlb-season-preview-americas-white-boyThe Los Angeles Dodgers have a bottomless pile of money to spend and some of the greatest baseball minds working in their front office. It’s probably only a matter of time before they win a World Series, right?

I believe the Dodgers will win at least one World Series during Andrew Friedman’s tenure as team president, but some changes were needed to be made this offseason.

Don Mattingly was on the hot seat for nearly his entire run as manager. They finally let him go in favor of Dave Roberts.

Will the Dodgers make any other big moves this season as the front office continues to improve the roster?

Here is the 2016 MLB season preview for the Los Angels Dodgers.

2015 MLB Team Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers 2015 MLB team preview Ceelo Green funny weird shirtlessThe Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best rosters in the Majors. They are loaded with established veterans, enthusiastic youth and one of the best starting rotations in the league. This could be a big season for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers have deep pockets and have been throwing money at players since they signed their lucrative TV deal. They didn’t splurge this offseason on free agents, but they did do some targeted trades. They knew what they needed and went out and filled holes.

Don Mattingly has been on the hot seat since the Dodgers hired him. He has dealt with lofty expectations and um, Yasiel Puig’s antics. Can he corral Puig’s shenanigans and keep him in line this season?

Here is the 2015 MLB season preview for the Los Angels Dodgers.

Baseball America’s 2015 Top 100 Prospects

Chicago Cubs Kris Bryant Baseball America top 100 MLB Prospects fantasy baseballBaseball America just released their yearly list of Major League Baseball’s top 100 prospects.

I’m a huge baseball fan and I love reading about prospects. I look forward to Baseball America’s list. I always buy Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook as well as the annual book by Baseball Prospectus.

If you play fantasy baseball, reading about baseball’s next generation is essential in both yearly draft leagues and keeper leagues.

Many of the top prospects will see time in the Majors at some point this season. General managers have fallen in love with draft picks since they implemented a luxury tax and revenue sharing.

He is Baseball America’s 2015 list of Top 100 Prospects.

Clayton Kershaw Pitches First Career No-Hitter

clayton kershaw no-hitter los angeles dodgers colorado rockies mlbClayton Kershaw, who signed a $215 million contract this offseason, was worth every penny against Colorado. He earned his first career no-hitter and was only a throwing error away from a perfect game. I’m sure Hanley Ramirez would like to have that throw back.

This is the Dodgers second no-hitter this season. Josh Beckett unexpectedly earned one less than a month ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kershaw, or another member of their rotation, would notch another one this season.

The Dodgers are currently four games back in the NL West behind the San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw’s next start will be in Kansas City to face the AL Central-leading Royals.

10 MLB Players Who Pronounce Their Name Wrong

Paul Maholm Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Weird PronounciationHave you ever watched baseball and heard the play-by-play guy say a player’s name and wonder who the hell he is talking about? It even happens to me and I’m a huge baseball fan.

I know the influx of Latino talent has caused some confusion, but this list doesn’t contain anyone from Latin countries. I focused on players that linguistically, it doesn’t make much sense to pronounce their name ‘correct’.

A few of these players have even played on my favorite team and thought their name was pronounced a lot different than what ‘correct.’

We list ten didn’t baseball players and spell out their pronunciation phonetically. Do you agree with this list?

Are Newly-Signed Pitchers and Catchers Key to Dodgers Success?

Dan Haren Los Angeles Dodgers 2014The Dodgers were very busy this offseason. They had two specific needs to address, pitching depth and a quality backup catcher. Their new pitcher and catcher acquisitions should help them add a half dozen wins toward their over/under betting win total.

What are the betting expectations for the MLB lines for this season? Click here for the best MLB lines for the season.

The Dodgers’ over/under win total is high, but the sky is the limit for the Dodgers this season. The NL West is top-heavy and the bottom half of the division are easy wins. Win totals are easier to hit when you have a few dozen easy wins within your own division.

Which pitchers and catchers did the Dodgers sign and why are those signings so important?

2014 MLB Team Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t look like a very good team early in the season. Manager Don Mattingly actually looked like he was about to be canned. They called up Yasiel Puig and suddenly became the best team in baseball.

The Dodgers have deep pockets and have been throwing money at players since they signed their lucrative TV deal. They signed Clayton Kershaw to a long-term deal and have a half dozen players making more than $15 million this season.

Can Yasiel Puig repeat last season’s breakout season? Will Matt Kemp be moved before the end of the season?

Why Wil Myers Will Be Better Than Yasiel Puig

Yasiel-Puig-Wil-MyersLos Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig caught the world by storm when he was called up to the Majors. He had game-winning hits, threw guys out with his arm and hit for power and average. His rookie cards are going for $50+ and his autographs are fetching a couple hundred dollars on eBay.

On the other side of the coin, Tampa Bay Rays rookie Wil Myers was called up soon after Puig with less fanfare, even though Myers was most well-known prospect in the minor leagues. He started off a bit slow, but is turning into a better player than Puig.

Puig has plateaued a bit and Myers is currently on a hot streak, yet SportsCenter gives more attention to Puig. I understand he’s in a bigger market than Myers, but that will soon change.

Wil Myers is better than Yasiel Puig and will be for the rest of his career…and here’s why. Continue reading
