Are you ready for the start of the dreaded bye weeks?
The Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers all have the week off. Luckily, these teams aren’t full of fantasy football studs.
Even though there aren’t a ton of automatic starts on those teams, you may need to fill a flex spot or a defense this week. We give a few suggestions on streaming options.
Which Dallas Cowboys players are worth a start against the Patriots on Sunday?
Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 6 of the 2021 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.
START’EM
- QB Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) – The Jaguars are headed over to London to face the Miami Dolphins. Lawrence had one of his better games last week in their loss to the Titans. The Dolphins have been getting eaten up the last few weeks. I doubt they will fix their issues on the plane ride over the Atlantic Ocean. I expect Lawrence to have his best game of his pro career on Sunday morning.
- WR Michael Pittman Jr. (Indianapolis Colts) – Pittman has been a consistent PPR wide receiver this season. He’s had at least six receptions in four-straight games, but he hasn’t been a red zone target. He scored his first touchdown on Monday night against Baltimore. He faces the lowly Houston secondary this week.
- TE Dalton Schultz (Dallas Cowboys) – I had Schultz in this section last week and he had a productive game against the Giants. He has a good match-up this weekend against the Patriots. I’ve watched nearly every Patriots game and they should have allowed some big gains for opposing tight ends. Quarterbacks have overthrown tight ends a few times, so the Patriots look like they are good against opposing tight ends in the box score, but it will bite them in the ass this week.
- RB Darrel Williams (Kansas City Chiefs) – Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire sprained his MCL in last week’s game and will miss a couple weeks. Williams will fill the traditional running back role and I expect RB Jerick McKinnon could see an uptick in play on passing downs. He could be a nice pickup in deep leagues.
- Arizona Cardinals Defense & Special Teams – The Cardinals defense had a couple big games this year, but they didn’t score much in fantasy the last two weeks. I know some people may back away from starting them against the Browns this week, but I expect a solid outing.
- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) – The Lions most likely lost WR Quintez Cephus (broken collarbone) for the rest of the season. Brown has elevated himself up to WR1 in Detroit. The Lions wide receivers are thin and they are inexperienced. Brown is the only one you want at the moment.
- TE Dan Arnold (Jacksonville Jaguars) – The Jaguars traded for Arnold two weeks ago and he’s getting more and more action. He led the team in receptions last week. A tight end with good hands can be a huge crutch for a young quarterback. I expect Lawrence will continue to target him this week against the Dolphins.
- WR Van Jefferson (Los Angeles Rams) – A lot of people added Jefferson before last week’s game against the Seahawks, but he only caught one pass for sixteen yards on four targets. The Rams have four talented wide receivers, so a guy like Jefferson won’t be the most consistent option. The Rams play the Giants this week and Jefferson should bounce back from his lean performance last week.
- RB Tony Pollard (Dallas Cowboys) – The Cowboys currently have two running backs that should be owned in all leagues. It took a couple weeks, but RB Ezekiel Elliott is back to his All-Pro level…but they are still feeding Pollard. The Cowboys defense should be able to stop the Patriots this week and Dallas could look to pound the rock. I expect the Cowboys to carry the ball 35+ times on Sunday.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense & Special Teams – The Bucs defense has a solid match-up against the Eagles on Thursday. I see Tampa Bay pressuring Eagles QB Jalen Hurts into some mistakes. He has struggled against above average defenses this season.
- QB Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers) – Over his last three games, Herbert has thrown 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Ravens can be thrown upon and after watching Colts QB Carson Wentz have success against them on Monday night, Herbert is definitely worth a start.
SIT’EM
- RB Devontae Booker (New York Giants) – Giants RB Saquon Barkley sprained his ankle in-between plays last week and is expected to miss a couple weeks. I know people will be rushing to add Booker this week, but I’d shy away from that. The Giants have a horrible match-up against the Rams and I don’t see any Giants running back being worth a start this week.
- QB Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) – Tannehill is usually an above average bye week QB replacement, but he faces the Bills this week. Buffalo’s defense has been unreal this year and they are a brick wall right now. I’d rather start Colts QB Carson Wentz or Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence as a streaming quarterback over Tannehill.
- WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Cleveland Browns) – OBJ has yet to find his groove in Cleveland’s offense. First of all, the Browns offense is very much run-first, which is bad news for OBJ owners. I’d rather start his teammate WR Donovan Peoples-Jones over OBJ right now.
- RB Mark Ingram II (Houston Texans) – Houston’s running game is just not working well. They are better off with their short passing game, and Ingram rarely plays on passing downs. I wouldn’t start any Texans running backs for the foreseeable future.
- QB Mac Jones (New England Patriots) – Jones has impressed me more than I thought he would at this point in his rookie season. He is accurate and appears to have a good feel for the offense, but he faces a tough Cowboys defense this week. Dallas has been playing out of their mind on that side of the ball. I could see Jones throwing a couple picks on Sunday.
- WR Kadarius Toney (New York Giants) – Toney had the best game of his young career last week. He had ten receptions for 189 yards, but he was also ejected for throwing a punch. He also injured his ankle/foot late in the game. His status for this week’s game is currently murky. Giants head coach Joe Judge said the injury ‘isn’t anything significant, in terms of season-ending”…which could mean anything. I’d hate to waste a high waiver wire bid for a guy who may not play. If you have a low waiver wire and have nothing to lose by putting in a claim, that’s fine, but I’m just putting his name here as a warning.
- TE Cameron Brate & O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – TE Rob Gronkowski has been out the last two weeks after cracking multiple ribs. QB Tom Brady has zero chemistry with Brate, as he threw multiple balls to him against the Patriots, but most were overthrown. Neither Brate or Howard had much of an impact last week. If Gronk can’t go this week, I’d think twice about picking up either of his backups.
- Kansas City Chiefs Defense & Special Teams – The Chiefs have some studs on defense, but they haven’t been a good fantasy defense. They’ve been give up huge plays and they are the reason why they’ve struggled to win games early this season. I wouldn’t stream the Chiefs defense any time soon.
- TE Austin Hooper (Cleveland Browns) – The Browns didn’t target Hooper a single time last week. His teammate TE David Njoku had an amazing day. He caught seven passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. He is more athletic than Hooper and has the higher upside. I’d cut Hooper and add Njoku or Jaguars TE Dan Arnold.
- Baltimore Ravens Defense & Special Teams – As I mentioned above, you can score on the Ravens this year. Colts QB Carson Wentz had one of his better games with his new team. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson needed a near-perfect second-half and overtime to get the win. They are going to struggle against Chargers QB Justin Herbert this week. I’d rather stream the Denver Broncos D/ST or maybe even the Carolina Panthers D/ST.
