2019 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 8

The Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens are the only two teams that are out on bye this week.

There have been four teams on bye the last couple weeks, but most of those teams weren’t filled with top fantasy players. Unfortunately, even though there’s only two teams out this week, those teams are stacked with top fantasy players and could really hurt some lineups pretty hard.

How will Seahawks QB Russell Wilson fare against Atlanta’s bad pass defense?

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 8 of the 2019 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks) – Wilson is coming off a rough game in a loss at home to Baltimore. He wasn’t accurate and he threw his first interception of the season. Seattle travels to Atlanta this week and the Falcons is the perfect opponent for Wilson to bust his one-game slump. The Falcons have one of the worst pass defenses in the league.
  • WR Kenny Stills (Houston Texans)Will Fuller is injured (again) and Stills becomes the Texans best deep threat. The Raiders don’t have the best deep pass coverage and Stills could catch a few deeps one this week.
  • RB Ty Johnson (Detroit Lions) Lions RB Kerryon Johnson underwent knee surgery this week and landed on IR (with hopes he can come back late this season). Johnson is the next man up for the Lions. He’s not a highly-touted rookie, but he was successful in college at Maryland. The Lions face a porous Giants run defense and Johnson should be a nice RB 2 or flex if you have a running back/flex on bye.
  • QB Jacoby Brissett (Indianapolis Colts) – Brissett is coming off a four-touchdown performance against the Texans. He played great against a somewhat average defense. He faces off against the Broncos, whose secondary has dealt with injuries all season and haven’t been good of late. All signs point to Brissett having another solid fantasy week.
  • Los Angeles Rams Defense & Special Teams – The Rams defense has been pretty average in fantasy this season. They are set up to have a good week against the Cincinnati Bengals. QB Andy Dalton is coming off one of the worst halves of football of his career. The Bengals could look to dial back his throwing, but the Rams run defense is one of the best in the league. Dalton will need to throw in this game if they hope to stay in the game.
  • RB Benny Snell Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers) – I watched a ton of his games while he was at Kentucky. I always thought he had the talent to be a very good NFL running back. He has good hands and can be elusive in the running game. RB James Conner is currently questionable with a quad injury and RB Jaylen Samuels is doubtful with a knee injury. Keep an eye on Conner’s status, but if he’s a definite ‘out’ come Sunday, Snell could be worth a start. It’s tricky since the Steelers play Monday night, so there’s a bit of risk here. If you own Conner, you should pick up Snell as a handcuff for the week.
  • WR John Brown (Buffalo Bills) – I’ve been a fan of John Brown all season. He’s Buffalo’s best chance to make a big play through the passing game. He has the speed to catch up to many of the overthrown balls from QB Josh Allen. The Eagles pass defense has been below average and Allen should target Brown plenty in their game on Sunday.
  • TE Gerald Everett (Los Angeles Rams) – Everett bounced back from a week game against the Niners and found the endzone last week. If you owned injured Seahawks TE Will Dissly and need a new tight end, Everett is a good replacement.
  • TE Hunter Henry (Los Angeles Chargers) – Henry is nearly owned in all leagues (90+% right now), but if he’s available in your league, snatch him up. He’s the go-to target for QB Philip Rivers and should see plenty of targets against the Bears.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars Defense & Special Teams – The Jaguars may have lost their best corner when they traded CB Jalen Ramsey to the Rams, but they still have plenty of playmakers on defense. They face the Jets on Sunday and QB Sam Darnold should have another rough outing this week.
  • RB Aaron Jones (Green Bay Packers) – A lot of people are adding Packers RB Jamaal Williams this week ahead of the game against the Chiefs. Williams have had some moments where he has split carries evenly with Jones, but Jones is definitely the Green Bay Packers running back I want. If you have an extra RB or Flex spot and want to take a risk on someone, I’d rather go with Miami RB Mark Walton than Williams.
  • WR Jaron Brown (Seattle Seahawks) – The Seahawks face a very bad Falcons pass defense this week. They also lost their starting tight end for the season. Brown is the #3 receiver and is being used more in the red zone. Brown is more of a 12-team league add, but he could be worth a flyer if you own one of the Cowboys receivers and just need a one-week fill-in.

SIT’EM

  • RB Jamaal Williams (Green Bay Packers) – Williams was given more touches than Aaron Jones in Week 6, but only had three carries for five yards last week. He will have a better week against the Chiefs, but he’s not worth a start.
  • WR Terry McLaurin (Washington Redskins) – McLaurin has been one of the better rookie receivers this year, but he’s will probably be lined up against Vikings CB Xavier Rhodes this week. I don’t like his prospects for a good game on Thursday.
  • QB Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns) – Mayfield is having a rough year for the Browns. He has only thrown five touchdowns through six games and already has 11 interceptions on the season. On Sunday, he faces the Patriots in Foxborough, Massachusetts. I’d rather sit him on my bench this week as the odds of him having a good fantasy performance against the Pats are very long.
  • RB Matt Breida (San Francisco 49ers) – Brieda had a season-worst eight carries last week against the Redskins. Now that RB Tevin Coleman is healthy, Breida is the clear #2 in San Francisco. He’s still owned in over 85% of leagues and that’s way too high. I wouldn’t even use a flex on him right now.
  • Any Chiefs Wide Receiver Not Named Tyreek HillChiefs QB Patrick Mahomes dislocated his knee and backup QB Matt Moore played and secured the win over the Broncos. He is not as accurate as Mahomes and clearly doesn’t have the same level of arm strength. Mahomes injury kills the fantasy stock of Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman. Those three receivers will probably only be fantasy-relevant if they find the endzone…and that’s impossible to predict.
  • RB Darrell Henderson (Los Angeles Rams) – Last week, RB Malcolm Brown was ruled out due to injury and Henderson was the backup to RB Todd Gurley. He was added to even more leagues in anticipation of a possible breakout performance, but he only gained 31 yards on 11 carries against the Falcons. Brown is currently questionable and Henderson could find himself as the sole backup against the Bengals. I still think there are better running back options out there worth a flyer than Henderson.
  • TE O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – I still don’t understand why Howard is still owned in 57.5% of leagues. It’s clear that the tight end position has little value in Bucs OC Byron Leftwich’s offensive gameplan. They play the Titans this week, a team that has defended opposing tight ends really well this season. It’s time to drop Howard in all leagues.
  • San Francisco 49ers Defense & Special Teams – The Niners defense in fantasy has been consistently good all season. They’ve had double-digit fantasy points in four of their six weeks. The Panthers are a tough opponent, but the Niners could get a turnover or two and be in the top-five fantasy defenses for the week.
  • QB Carson Wentz (Philadelphia Eagles) – Wentz started the year off hot, but has had a real stinker three out of the last four weeks. The Eagles play the Bills, who have a much-improved, young defense. I don’t expect the Eagles will focus a ton on the passing game. I’d rather sit Wentz this week and go with someone like Brissett or Rams QB Jared Goff.
  • WR Robby Anderson (New York Jets) – I’ve listed Anderson in this section plenty times over the last two years. He’s an all-or-nothing receiver and is coming off a stinker of a performance against the Patriots. He was thrown to eight times and only caught one pass for ten yards. The Jaguars is a tough team to throw against, especially the deep passes Anderson needs to have a good fantasy performance.
