2018 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 6

Have all your studs made it to Week 6 without suffering an injury? If so, you’re one of the lucky few. There have been a lot of injuries to key non-quarterback players this season.

The Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints are off this week. You could be in the market to replace guys like RB Alvin Kamara, RB Mark Ingram or QB Matthew Stafford.

There are some pretty significant injuries again this week. It seems like the trendy new injury is the hamstring. There are a half dozen good fantasy players that could be out again this week.

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 6 of the 2018 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) – Mahomes threw his first interception of the year last week. It was against one of the top defenses in the league (Jacksonville), so it isn’t alarming. He does face an important game Sunday night as he goes up against New England. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick loves to gameplan to prevent one specific player from hurting them…that player will be Mahomes. I don’t think the Patriots have the personnel on defense to do that. Mahomes should have a solid game against New England.
  • WR Josh Reynolds (Los Angeles Rams) – Rams wide receivers Brandin Cooks AND Cooper Kupp both suffered concussions last week. The Rams love lining up three wide receivers, so even if one of them has to sit out, Reynolds should get a nice chunk of targets. Reynolds is a guy you may need to make a decision on later in the week, especially if you own either of the concussed Rams wide receivers.
  • RB Wendell Smallwood (Philadelphia Eagles) – The Eagles suffered a huge blow when they found out RB Jay Ajayi tore his ACL. They already had injuries to running backs Darren Sproles and Corey Clement. Smallwood has filled in at times and has had a lot of success in limited touches. He has averaged 6.0 yards per carry and has good hands (ten receptions). He has had some red zone usage as he has two touchdowns under his belt. Even if Corey Clement is healthy enough to play, I think Smallwood will be given every opportunity to be a solid flex option.
  • QB Mitchell Trubisky (Chicago Bears) – The Bears are coming off a bye and face the Dolphins, a team that has allowed 8.3 yards per passing attempt the last three weeks. Trubisky is coming off a six touchdown performance against the Bucs. The Dolphins pass defense isn’t as poor as the Bucs, but I could see a 250+ yard performance with a couple touchdowns in Trubsiky’s future.
  • RB Sony Michel (New England Patriots) – I thought RB James White was the go-to back for the Patriots now that they have lost both Jeremy Hill and Rex Burkhead. He is getting a ton of work, but Michel was the workhorse the last twp weeks with 43 carries for 210 yards and a two touchdowns. White may still be the most valuable of the pair, but Michel is in the RB2 territory.
  • Houston Texans Defense & Special Teams – The Texans face the Bills…and most weeks I will pick the defense that faces the Bills. Buffalo is a much better team with RB LeSean McCoy healthy, but I’m not sold on rookie QB Josh Allen. The Texans have some playmakers on defense that could make it a long day for Allen.
  • WR Keke Coutee (Houston Texans) – Coutee has been inching his way into the regular target rotation in Houston. He was second on the team in targets last week. His target increase has a lot to do with WR Will Fuller’s tricky hamstring, but due to Coutee’s recent success, I think he’s now a flex option in 12+ team leagues.
  • TE Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Now that TE O.J. Howard is out healing an MCL injury, Brate’s ownership percentage should jump by a large margin. Also, QB Jameis Winston has a better rapport with Brate than QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, which increases his fantasy stock even more. I’m not sure how long this will last, but Brate should be good for another touchdown this week. He’s someone Winston looks for in the red zone.
  • TE Eric Ebron (Indianapolis Colts) – With TE Jack Doyle and WR T.Y. Hilton ruled out of last week’s game against the Patriots, Ebron caught nine passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. It doesn’t look like Doyle will be healthy enough to face the Jets this week and Hilton is a question mark. Even if Hilton plays, Ebron should still get a lot of targets in a tight end-heavy offense.
  • Green Bay Packers Defense & Special Teams – The Packers face the 49ers this weekend. Niners QB C.J. Beathard is getting pummeled behind a below average offensive line. He is on his back a lot and is getting rushed into poor decisions.
  • RB T.J. Yeldon (Jacksonville Jaguars)The Jaguars signed free agent RB Jamaal Charles this week due to all the injuries they’ve suffered at running back. It’s also a bad sign that RB Leonard Fournette could miss another week (or more). Yeldon caught eight passes and ran for 53 yards lat week. He faces Dallas this week and after QB Blake Bortles poor performance last week, the Jags will be looking to get the running game going early in that game.
  • QB Eli Manning (New York Giants) – Manning hasn’t exactly been lighting it up this season, but he has played some of his best games against the Eagles. Philly has a good run defense, but has given up some big plays through the air. The Giants have the receivers to burn the Philly secondary. As long as Manning avoids turnovers, he should have a solid week in fantasy.
  • WR Calvin Ridley (Atlanta Falcones) – Atlanta faces Tampa Bay this weekend…and the Bucs are giving up insane yards to wide receivers. I listed Ridley here since he had an off week against the Steelers. I actually think all three of the Falcons top receivers will do well in fantasy. Ridley is a big red zone target and will have a good shot of adding to his seven touchdowns.
  • RB Kyle Juszczyk (San Francisco 49ers) – This is for deep leagues. I mentioned Niners QB C.J. Beathard is getting pressured a lot. He utilized Juszczyk in the passing game last week. He caught six passes on seven targets for 75 yards. He doesn’t get many carries (he actually only has one), but he could be excellent in a deep PPR league.
  • TE Nick Vannett (Seattle Seahawks) [DEEP LEAGUES] – Now that TE Will Dissly is out for the year (knee), Vannett is the next man up for Seattle. Vannett caught three of four targets last week…a game that saw Seattle attempt the least of amount of passes for them this season. He plays Oakland this week and QB Russell Wilson should attempt more passes this week.

SIT’EM

  • WR Robby Anderson (New York Jets) – Anderson had his best game of the season last week. He only caught three passes, but two of those went for touchdowns. He benefited from broken coverage. He’s an all-or-nothing player. He will only be targeted on deep balls and he doesn’t get many targets per game. He only has 11 catches on the year. I wouldn’t jump on him just because he had two fluky touchdowns against Denver.
  • RB Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans) – After DeMarco Murray retired after last season, I thought Henry would have a monster season this year…it hasn’t happened. Titans RB Dion Lewis is playing on the passing downs and Henry is only averaging 3.0 yards per carry. The Ravens haven’t given up much more than that per carry this season. I don’t see Henry having a very good week.
  • QB Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys) – Prescott it’s a quarterback I wouldn’t rely on in fantasy. He doesn’t have many reliable targets and the offense is on the back of RB Ezekiel Elliott. He faces the Jaguars, whose defense is one of the best in the league. He only seems to put up big fantasy numbers when he has all his members of his offensive line healthy…which isn’t the case. There are better options on the waiver wire than Prescott this week (and most other weeks).
  • RB Dalvin Cook (Minnesota Vikings) – Cook missed last week due to a hamstring. It looks like he could miss this week too. I would prepare to be without him or you will need to wait until gameday to find his definitive status.
  • WR Marquise Goodwin (San Francisco 49ers) – Goodwin is another guy dealing with a hamstring injury. He missed last week and there’s no word on this week. He doesn’t have a good match-up against the Packers. He’s another guy that you may need to bench and pick up a guy to play in his spot.
  • RB Jamaal Williams (Green Bay Packers) – Williams has been splitting time with RB Aaron Jones, and now he’s losing playing time behind RB Ty Montgomery. Williams hasn’t been very effective when he’s playing, and is now the third-best fantasy running back on the Packers. He’s still owned in nearly half of all leagues and needs to be dropped.
  • TE Jesse James (Pittsburgh Steelers) – Now that TE Vance McDonald is healthy, James went back to being the backup TE. He still gets a couple targets per game, but he should only be owned in deep, deep leagues. You’d be better off dropping him for any other of the top 30 fantasy tight ends.
  • Denver Broncos Defense & Special Teams – Denver’s defense has been pretty poor this season. They have racked up negative points the last two weeks. They face the Rams and they have the most complete offense in the league. I’d drop the Broncos and pick up a defense like the Ravens or Jets.
  • QB Andy Dalton (Cincinnati Bengals) – I know Dalton has been better than expected in fantasy this season, but he faces a team that just has his number, the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has only had one bad fantasy week so far and that was at Carolina. He threw four picks, but that’s the only game (so far) that he has thrown more than one interception in a game. He struggles against the Steelers and will probably throw more than one this week.
  • RB Duke Johnson (Cleveland Browns) – Johnson is another player owned in half of all leagues that should be dropped. He’s third on the depth chart and really only plays in a small portion of snaps. He’s a dynamic and would be the lead back on a handful of other teams, but as of right now, running backs Carlos Hyde and Nick Chubb are the only two backs on Cleveland worth owning.
