March is a huge month for the site. We pumped out a ton of fantasy baseball posts, MLB team previews and NCAA Tournament game picks. It’s nice to have fresh music to listen to while you’re cranking out tens of thousands of words this coming month.

I usually watch ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ at least once every February. It’s one of my favorite movies. It blew my mind when I first saw it in the theater in February 2004. It still holds up and I recommend everyone give it a watch, or two.

This month’s playlist is pretty damn great. It didn’t take me very long to compile since new music has been finding ME lately. I could have expanded this month’s list by five or ten tracks, but I’m holding a few back in case I’m not so lucky next month.

Not a ton of music is released in December. Bands would most likely release their stuff in November or just wait until after the New Year to put out new music. It’s not a prime time for new music, since most people are just jamming to Mariah Carey’s Christmas album on repeat.

This month’s playlist took me longer to compile than most. I had to dig deep and found a few I overlooked the past two months. I found some gems and was worth the extra work.

I narrowed down 300+ tracks that appeared on our monthly ‘Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist’ posts to a total of the top 40 songs of the year. I felt like I needed to make a rule of one song per artist or this list would have been filled with multiple songs by Grouplove, Alvvays, Gordi and many more.

I would have loved to make our ‘Best of 2017’ list a top 20 or 25, but there were just too many bands and songs that I loved this year. I also made a separate Spotify playlist for the ‘Best of 2017’, as well as a YouTube playlist you can see at the bottom of the post.

I had to dig a little deeper for this month’s playlist. There haven’t been a ton of new material released in the last two weeks. I still managed to find some great new music and re-discovered some songs I looked over this Fall.

I’m working on a ‘Best of 2017 Playlist’ as we speak. I’m trying to carve down the list of all of the songs that appeared on playlists this year (around 300) down to a respectable number. I’m shooting for a Top 25…let’s hope I can make it that small. It should be ready by mid-December.

I had fun with this month’s playlist. I have spent a ton of time alone with my Spotify this month. It was a nice distraction while writing some of my gambling posts this month. I let the betting lines marinate in my head a bit before I research games.

This might be the last month I use an ‘overtime’ section to add some extra tracks that missed last month’s playlist. I guess it depends how much new stuff gets released, but the Winter can be a slow time for new music.

I’m loving the new stuff from Alvvays, St. Vincent, Smallpools and Gang of Youths. They have been all-stars the last two playlists. Go check out the new stuff from those bands.

I had an easy time making this month’s playlist. I had a few leftovers from last month’s packed playlist and other tracks by a few artists that appeared on the playlist in August. I’ve been keeping up with the candidates all month.

I don’t expect it to be 30 going forward, but I was just finding so much great stuff the last couple months. I still have some leftovers and are added at the bottom of the list in the Overtime section.

I have found a lot of good music for this month’s playlist. This music playlist started with 15 songs when it started a few years ago, then to 20 and then 25 a few months ago. Well, this list is 30 songs this month.

I don’t expect it to be 30 going forward, but I was just finding so much great stuff the last couple weeks. I still have some leftovers that will be (hopefully) incorporated next month.
