Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 61

I’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. I started purchasing some vintage toys out of nostalgia. Well, WWE and Mattel sucked me into their new stuff. I now buy a few figures a month. You can view photos of my collection on my Instagram account.

The lineup for WWE Elite series 61 feels a little ho-hum since there are so many recent repeats. I guess the bar was set high after so many great sets to start 2018. This is a set that gets Mattel ready for the Holiday season, since it’s important to get popular guys on the shelves this Fall.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 61 are AJ Styles, Fashion Police (Fandango & Tyler Breeze, Shane McMahon, Big E and Kevin Owens.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 53

The lineup in Elite 53 is the first full lineup without any flashback figures in a long time. It’s a smart move by Mattel since there are so many exclusive lines that are only flashbacks. They will eventually run out of older guys if they include two or three per series. Also, it feels like we are a bit behind on elite of some of the guys that appear on TV more since the brand split.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 53 are Alexa Bliss, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, The Miz, Big E and Heath Slater.

Will ‘The New Day’ Succeed in WWE?

The New Day Kofi Kingston Xavier Woods Big E Langston WWE Grumpy CatWWE hasn’t had much luck recently debuting characters after a lengthy series of vignettes. The string of recent failures can be traced back to Brodus Clay’s re-debut as the Funkasaurus, the laughable ‘Lord Tensai’ debut and let’s not forget Fandango’s debut (his entrance music was more ‘over’ than him). It might be a bit too early to label Bo Dallas and Adam Rose as busts, but it has been months and they have yet to gain traction.

Yes, there have been some successes, with The Wyatt Family being the biggest, but it isn’t always the performers’ fault.

Have vignettes lost their appeal? Will The New Day continue the string of failures?

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 32

WWE Elite Series 32 Lineup Daniel Bryan Rey Mysterio Sin Cara Cody Rhodes Big E Mark Henry MattelI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. WWE Elite Series 30 and Elite Series 31 were both home runs. I bought most of those sets. I was kind of hoping Elite 32 would be filled with figures I’d want to skip (I need to catch up on some earlier Elites I missed). My wish was granted and I don’t feel bad skipping most of these figures.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 32 are Daniel Bryan (short-lived run with the Wyatt Family), Big E., Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes, Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio (WCW Flashback).

Here are some pictures and a review of which accessories each figure will come with.
