Toy Crazy: 2017 Ringside Fest’s WWE Mattel Announcements [PHOTOS]

There are only a few times a year when Mattel announces and debuts upcoming WWE action figures. San Diego Comic-Con and Ringside Fest are the two of the biggest events with the most upcoming WWE action figure reveals. This year’s Ringside Fest in NYCC did not disappoint.

We already saw some of the figures at San Diego Comic-Con, so I’ll skip most of those in this post. I want to focus on the figures we didn’t know anything about or figures we haven’t seen in prototype form.

We already know that Target has NXT basics and elites and Hall of Fame elite exclusives, Walmart has the ‘THEN NOW FOREVER’ elites and basics, as well as an occasional Build-A-Figure line and Toys R Us has a multiple exclusives per year. It looks like WWE Shop will also get in on the Elite exclusive fun this upcoming year.

Review: NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III

NXT Takeover events are almost always the best show of that weekend. WWE main roster will have a hard time beating NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III when they have Summerslam later today.

Every match was competitive and you can tell every guy wanted to steal the show. Even the guys who lost looked like a million bucks. No one got buried, and a surprise debut, made the show fresh. NXT is in a better place than it was after Shinsuke Nakamura and a few others were brought up to the main roster a few months ago.

On paper, there have been better NXT Takeover shows, but this one kept the crowd’s attention the entire night. The crowd didn’t have any chants that made me think they were bored. I’m sure we will hear a few tonight at Summerslam.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE NXT Series 1

WWE NXT Elite Basic Series 1 Target Exclusive Wrestling MattelI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. I started purchasing some vintage toys out of nostalgia. Well, WWE and Mattel sucked me into their new stuff. I now buy a few figures a month. You can view photos of my collection on my Instagram account.

The NXT lineup was announced either at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con or Ringside Fest (I can’t quite remember). Collectors have been anxiously waiting.

When it comes to store exclusives from Mattel, they just all of the sudden appear there without any announcement. That happened with the NXT series at Target, with both elites and basic figures.

The lineup in Elite 50 is overall pretty darn solid. Four in the series are the wrestler’s first ever elite and the accessories are fantastic…especially and entire announce table with Shane.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 50 are Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Baron Corbin, Rhyno, Warlord and John Cena.

The lineup in Elite 49 is pretty good. Five out of the six figures are the wrestler’s first elite. There are some awesome figures in this set, but I question a few accessory choices.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 49 are Becky Lynch, Enzo Amore, Big Cass, Apollo Crews, Randy Orton & Brutus Beefcake.

Sports Crush: WWE’s Liv Morgan

liv_morgan_nxt_png_2016_by_ambriegnsasylum16-dapkkvaWe’ve written over a dozen ‘Sports Crush’ posts since we launched AmericasWhiteBoy.com. We have spotlighted a ton of WWE Divas (Becky LynchLanaSasha BanksAlexa Bliss, Emmalina and others). The response has been fantastic, so we decided to profile a WWE women’s superstar, who is currently in NXT, Liv Mogan.

Morgan, whose real name is Gionna Daddio, signed with WWE in 2014 after years of being a competitive cheerleader and Hooters girl.

She made her NXT television debut in the Summer of 2015 after only a year at developmental, which is pretty fast these days for those without any previous wrestling experience.

The women talent down at NXT is a little thin, so I expect a lot more television time for Liv Morgan in the near future.

Check out a picture gallery, and a very special .gif, to see why we are crushing on Liv Morgan.

10 Ways to Instantly Improve the WWE

triple-h-family-3The WWE have lost nearly half of their audience on RAW over the last few years and WWE Network subscribers have hit a plateau, even after giving away free programming month after month.

The WWE is a public company and even if they want to live in a kayfabe world of record profits, it’s not what is really happening. The brand split increased the ratings for Smackdown Live, but Smackdown house show attendance is almost at record lows. The roster is so thin right now that it is really hard to keep booking interesting matches.

Here are ten ways the WWE could improve their product right now.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 47.5

The lineup in Elite 47.5 is solid. I’m glad Mattel is trying to put out an in-between series instead of sending mixed collection of elites to retail. Elite Series 47.5 includes debut Goldust, The Ascension (Konnor & Victor), Flyin’ Brian Pillman, Kane and The Rock.

The lineup in Elite 47 is amazeballs. You have the three ‘First Time In Line’ figures from AJ Styles, Asuka and Tatanka, and solid figures of Big Boss Man, Kevin Owens and Cesaro. This lineup could be the best of the year.

The lineup in Elite 46 is decent. It’s really hard for a series to stand out, since so many have been fantastic. It has been a banner year for Mattel’s WWE line of figures. The WWE Superstars included in Elite 46 are Finn Balor, John Cena, Sheamus, Rusev and Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray).

Elite 42 was bit of a disappointment, even though I was glad to see the Nasty Boys get some figures. The lineup in Elite 43 is just beyond amazing. You have the first elites of three different superstars. The WWE Superstars included in Elite 43 are Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Alberto Del Rio and Kofi Kingston.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 42

Mattel has been including more flashback figures, which I love. I think it’s largely due to the success of the Target exclusive Hall of Fame series (by the way, series four should be in stores later this year).

Elite 42 is in the unfortunate position to follow the stacked lineups from Elite 40 & 41. The lineup in Elite 42 isn’t bad, but the last two series have been all-time greats. The WWE Superstars included in Elite 42 are Xavier Woods, Neville, Kalisto, Triple H and the Nasty Boys.
