2017 NFL Draft: Best Undrafted Players

The 2017 NFL Draft is officially complete and street sweepers are cleaning up the aftermath in Philly.

253 players were drafted over a three-day period. Some of those players will never play one down in a regular season NFL game. On the other side of the coin, many college players that went undrafted could end up having long careers in the NFL.

Kurt Warner went undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft. He was a training camp invitee with the Green Bay Packers. He was released before the season and then found himself in the Arena Football League. He was successful there and then signed by the St. Louis Rams. Starting QB Trent Green suffered an ACL injury in the preseason and Warner was named the starter. He went on the win the Super Bowl that season. Warner will be inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio late this Summer.

2017 College Football Signing Day: All-Name Team

We have made lists of great names in college basketball and football over the years. We even once made an all-name team list for the MLB Amateur Draft.

I was planning on doing the same for college football signing day, but nothing will ever top Kobe Buffalomeat…so he’s the only name on the list.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 14 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 14-11 with my picks last week. It was the last week in which they are at least 25 games, so I went ahead and picked every single college football game against the spread this weekend.

The College Football Playoff could be a mess this season. There will be a team or two that will be left out that will have a legitimate argument for their inclusion. The Ohio State loss to Penn State is the reason for the extra drama this weekend.

I am really looking forward to watching all the conference championship games this weekend. I think they will all be fun to watch, except for the Alabama/Florida game, which could be a blood bath.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 13 Betting Picks Against Spread

I started to second-guess my decision to increase my picks to 25 games, but I went 19-6 last week. The weather helped my picks since many games in the Midwest had gusting wind.

This is a huge rivalry week across the country. There are rivalry games like Michigan/Ohio State and Washington/Washington State that will factor in who will appear in conference championship games. The OSU/Michigan game will help weed out the logjam at the top in the College Football Playoff rankings.

This week’s schedule has a lot of large point spreads, but I still see value across the board.

Can Ohio State Really Make the College Football Playoff?

The Ohio State Buckeyes ended up being the #2 ranked team in the College Football Playoff this week. They benefited from three of the top four teams losing last week.

If history has any relevance here, Ohio State’s loss to Penn State worked in their favor since the earlier a team loses, the less affect it has on the final college football playoff rankings. Although in Ohio State’s case, that loss could have much more of an impact since it could cost them an appearance in the Big Ten Championship game.

There’s still a lot of football left to play, but Ohio State does not control its own destiny. Yes, if they beat Michigan in the final week of their regular season, it would almost cement their spot in the College Football Playoff, but as we’ve seen before, a team that leaves their fate in the hands of a committee that selects teams, can be burned.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 11 Betting Picks Against Spread

I wrote last week’s college football betting picks still glowing from a Chicago Cubs World Series championship. I wrote these picks in an indifferent mood following an exhausting election cycle.

I finished 12-13 last week after betting against some large point spreads. I whiffed because many big spreads covered last week.

The best betting advice I can give someone at this point in the season is if you don’t have a good ‘feel’ for a team or have missed on a lot of bets on a certain team, abandon them. If you don’t, you’ll just be chasing your own tail trying to break even.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 10 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 14-11 last week after missing a few ACC game picks. I still think the Clemson -4.5 pick against Florida State hit about 9 out of 10 times. Clemson defense let Florida State have some easy scores before halftime.

There are some big games on the schedule this week. This weekend’s slate would have been amazing if TCU and Oregon would have been as good as past year’s teams.

I stayed away from a lot of the SEC games last week, but felt there were some good plays this week. I still feel like Alabama is alone on the top and then every other team in the conference is at about the same talent level. It makes for picking games a bit of a struggle.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 9 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 15-9-1 again last week. I struggled with some of the marquee games, but was near-perfect picking smaller conference games.

SEC game outcome are going to start to get weird. Upsets start to happen at this point ever season. They start devouring each other to make way for ACC and Big Ten teams to jump up in the polls.

I stayed away from a lot of the SEC games this weekend. I feel like the conference is basically ‘Alabama’ and then ‘everyone else.’ Teams like Texas A&M, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, etc are just going to feed on each other.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 8 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 15-9-1 last week and felt pretty good about a few of my moneyline suggestions as well.

I don’t expect weather to be an issue this weekend. It might be the first official ‘Fall Weather’ football game for most of the Midwest though. I don’t think that really bothers anyone at all.

I’m really looking forward to the Texas A&M/Alabama game this weekend. There are some dominoes that need to fall during the season and one will fall in this battle between unbeaten teams.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 7 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 12-11-2 after some big upsets made for a tense afternoon. I was pretty happy to just end up around .500 after some of my bad beats.

I don’t expect weather to be an issue this weekend. Hurricane Matthew screwed up a few games last week and outright cancelled LSU/Florida.

There are a few key games in the Big Ten and SEC, but it’s a pretty average slate of games this weekend. There are a lot of top conference teams playing conference basement dwellers. It always seems like crazy things happen when there’s a bunch of “ho-hum” games.

2016 NCAA Football – Week 6 Betting Picks Against Spread

I went 12-12-1 after my bonus five picks decided to turn against me. I did have a few moneyline successes and hit on last week’s big game at Clemson.

This weekend has a full slate of great college football games. There are some games this weekend with massive implications. Some are rivalry games like Oklahoma vs Texas and Miami vs Florida State…and others are just good conference games that could factor into conference titles like Tennessee vs Texas A&M.

QB Jalen Hurts’ Mental Strength Impresses Coaches

No one expected the top-ranked Crimson Tide’s freshman quarterback to fumble so many times; but fortunately for him, each time he has fallen, Jalen has bounced back stronger than ever. This early in his college career, no one is ready to make any drastic pronunciations about Jalen’s future, not when the NFL betting lines seem so favorable for him.

Coach Nick Saban recently expressed his support for the 18-year-old, despite his mistakes. You cannot help but commend the young player for his mental fortitude. Jalen has refused to crack under pressure, this despite leading the defending national champions on more than one occasion.

You can never tell what a player is made of until he faces the fire, and Jalen has faced the fire, withstood the pressure and has come out at the end all the better for it. Every test Jalen has faced so far he has passed, and there have been quite a number of rough patches along the way.
