Cover Song Month: Bad Rabbits – “Sextape”

This is not the first time Bad Rabbits appeared during “Cover Song Month”. They covered The Smashing Pumpkins track “1979” and we included it in last year’s feature.

This year, we’re featuring their cover of “Sextape” by Deftones. It’s one our favorite covers in recent memory.

Cover Song Month: Banquise – “Round And Round”

August is ‘Cover Song Month’ on AmericasWhiteBoy.com.

We did this last year and we had a blast sharing some of our favorite cover songs.

Banquise is a French band, which makes their cover of a Ratt song (“Round And Round”) much more impressive. Who knew an iconic 80’s hair-metal song can be made into an indie track that sounds fresh.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: March 2013

Sweetbob+Hipster+Music1I keep an ear out for new music. I’m used to discovering new bands from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I received a lot of great feedback from my past hipster music playlist posts. A lot of emails came in from readers who recommended new tracks to me, which I love. I will keep posting these as long as I keep receiving all the feedback.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Eddie Money or Madonna (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

I’ve decided to write a monthly post dedicated to introducing twelve great, new indie songs I’m currently listening to. Most of the songs are fresh and have been released in the second half of 2012 or early in 2013.

13 Concerts You MUST See This Spring

This time of year, bands start announcing concert dates for the Spring/Summer tours. It’s early and the concert season is already looking stacked.

No matter what type of music you like, live music is where the soul lives.

Back when I traveled around covering music, I went to plenty shows with a preconceived idea of what I was going to write…especially if I wasn’t a fan of a band’s album. My mind has been changed so many times. You honestly cannot have an opinion on a band without seeing them in person.

I comprised a list of bands who have tour dates this Spring and Early Summer. I purposely left out the major music festivals (Coachella, Lollapalozza, Bonnaroo) because everybody knows they are amazing.

Here is a list of tours you can’t miss this Spring. Continue reading

NHL Talk: Eric Fehr, Bad Books & Tim Allen

Two hockey guys talking hockey.

Joe Pasquali and Eddie Theisen are two die-hard NHL fans. They both watch every hockey game, every night (almost).

The guys talk about subliminal messages in Disney movies, Minnesota Wild’s coach Mike Yeo’s job security, the Staal brothers and which NHL games are they most looking forward to this weekend.

After you read a few of their morning hockey conversations, you start to understand why these guys didn’t have any Valentine’s Day plans last night.

This is their email conversation the following morning. Continue reading

The Flaming Lips & Amanda Palmer release NSFW video

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne tweets got out of hand a few months ago. He prematurely tweeted a link to their soon-to-be-released music video that featured Erykah Badu’s sister naked in a bathtub. Badu was furious and pulled out of the project. The Lips had to find another singer to collaborate with on the track “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” for their “Heady Fwends” album.

They found a new singer, Dresden Dolls vocalist Amanda Palmer. The breathy singer wasn’t shy about stripping down for their video either.

To watch their music video for “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”, it is located here. (I didn’t want to embed it on our site because Palmer is super naked in it and didn’t want my readers to lose their jobs.)

Coyne also directed Palmer’s upcoming music video for “Do It With a Rock Star”…and it looks equally as NSFW as this one.

Two Door Cinema Club release "Sleep Alone" Video

Two Door Cinema Club just released the music video for their new single “Sleep Alone”. The track is off on their upcoming album “Beacon”, which will be released on September 4th in the U.S. and a day earlier in the U.K.

If you’re unfamiliar with Two Door Cinema Club, where have you been?

They are a British indie rock band that gained success with their 2010 album “Tourist History”. It was in my Top 25 Albums of 2010. The singles off the album, “I Can Talk”, “Undercover Martyn” and “Something Good Can Work” propelled to the top of the indie charts.

Here is the video for “Sleep Alone” and find out where you can see Two Door Cinema Club play on their fall tour.

Two Door Cinema Club is currently playing festivals in Europe, but will kick off their U.S. tour on September 28th in New York City. They are accompanied by the band ‘Friends’. The tour ends on October 28th in Santa Ana, California.
