Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: April 2014

Sweetbob's Hipster Music Playlist funnyI decided to super-size this month’s playlist with 15 songs (again). April is usually a bit light when it comes to new music, but I found some good ones.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Richard Marx or Ace of Base (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

Here are 15 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. All of the songs are fresh and most have only been released within the last two months.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: March 2014

Funny Hipster Clown Shirt Music PlaylistI decided to super-size this month’s playlist with 15 songs. March is when a lot of bands start releasing new music. Many of the songs this month also have great videos. Make sure you check out Big Data’s music video for “Dangerous”, it has one of the oddest storylines in a music video ever.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: January 2014

funny-hipster-guy-stereotype-suitI want to kick 2014’s ‘Hipster Music Playlist’ off right. I decided to super-size this month’s playlist (again) with 15 songs. January is usually a difficult month to find good, new music, but I didn’t have much trouble this year. Included in this month’s playlist is an hilarious video by FIDLAR that features Nick Offerman (aka Ron Swanson).

Cute Hipster DogI always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I decided to super-size this month’s playlist with 15 songs. I received a ton of emails from readers who recommended new tracks to me, which I love. I will keep posting these as long as I keep receiving all the feedback.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: November 2013

hipster-music-playlistI keep an ear out for new music. I’m used to discovering new bands from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

Due to football, I did not post a Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist last month. I always receive a lot of great feedback from them, so sorry for the delay. Many emails came in from readers who recommended new tracks to me, which I love. I will keep posting these as long as I keep receiving all the feedback.

Cover Song Month: Birdy – “1901”

I couldn’t do a month full of cover songs without including Birdy. She made a name for herself by covering Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”.

She’s back covering Phoenix’s track, “1901”. I love how she deconstructs the melody and slows it down. Phoenix’s original is high-tempo, so a slowed-down version is very fresh.

Cover Song Month: Ed Sheeran feat. Passenger – “No Diggity”

You can’t have ‘Cover Song Month’ without indie musicians covering an old 90’s hip hop track, right?

Ed Sheeran is hot indie musician and Passenger is one of my personal favorites, his voice is amazing. They collaborated on “No Diggity” by Blackstreet…and it’s awesome.

Cover Song Month: Vampire Weekend – “Blurred Lines”

‘Cover Song Month’ is turning out to be one of my favorite series on the year.

“Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk share the title of ‘Song of the Summer.’ Many covers have popped up for both songs, but only two stand out. We posted a cover of “Get Lucky” by San Cisco earlier this month, but now it’s time to do the same with “Blurred Lines”.

Here is Vampire Weekend’s cover of “Blurred Lines”.

Cover Song Month: Kishi Bashi – “With or Without You”

Kishi Bashi is one of the most original indie acts to come around in years. He’s a one man band. He uses loops he records on stage to his benefit. He is one my concert bucket list.

He covers U2’s “With or Without You” and it’s mind-blowing how he pulls it off.

Cover Song Month: The Postelles – “Ask”

If you’re an indie band, having a cover of a song by The Smiths or Morrissey is a must. The Postelles put their token cover of a song by The Smiths on YouTube.

Their version of “Ask” says true to the original, but thanks to today’s high-def recording equipment, it’s more clean.

Cover Song Month: San Cisco – “Get Lucky”

We’re big fans of San Cisco here on AmericasWhiteBoy.com. Their track “Awkward” appeared on our of our “Sweetbob’s HIpster Music Playlist” posts earlier this year.

Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” is the song of the summer and I’m sure San Cisco won’t be the last band to cover it, but it will definitely be one of the best when it’s all said and done.

(We dig the lady drummer.)
