2021 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 2

I hope you had a successful start to the fantasy football season.

I made some solid overall calls in Week 1, but I did whiff big on Saints QB Jameis Winston. I didn’t expect that output against the Packers.

There were only a couple injuries in Week 1 that will have lasting effects in fantasy. RB Raheem Mostert (knee) and Footballers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) will be out for the foreseeable future.

Which Ravens running back should you start against the Chiefs?

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Jameis Winston of the New Orleans Saints.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Jameis Winston (New Orleans Saints) – I missed on Winston last week. I now realize that the way he is going to avoid throwing as many interceptions this year is that he will now tuck and run the ball if nothing is open. He used to force a lot of bad passes and it looks like he is making this change to avoid turnovers. He should have a solid outing against the Panthers this week.
  • WR Jakobi Meyers (New England Patriots) – I made a good call with my Meyers pick last week. It’s clear that he’s the most talented wide receiver (Agholor a close second) on the team and rookie QB Mac Jones looks like the real deal. Meyers should get plenty of targets against the Jets.
  • TE Austin Hooper (Cleveland Browns) – I’m taking Hooper based on the amount of tight end receiving yards the Texans allowed last week. The Jaguars racked them up against the Texans weak linebackers. Hooper is more talented than any tight ends on the Jaguars. I expect the Browns to focus on Hooper in the red zone.
  • RB Ty’Son Williams (Baltimore Ravens) – I recommended Williams soon after I found out about Gus Edwards season-ending injury. The Ravens added Latavius Murray mid-week and did get ten carries, but didn’t do much with them. Williams was the more effective back and found the end zone. I still recommend Williams this week against the Chiefs.
  • Denver Broncos Defense & Special Teams – Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence had a rough outing against the Texans last week. He did play much better in the second-half, but I expect him to make a few bad reads a game as a rookie. The Broncos have some stud pass rushers and will make Lawrence rush a few passes.
  • RB Elijah Mitchell (San Francisco 49ers) – After Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury in last week’s game (he will miss the rest of the season), Mitchell received most of the carries in relief. He cracked the 100-yard mark on 19 carries against the Lions. He may not be active much in the passing game, but I expect Mitchell to be the lead back in San Francisco this week.
  • WR Tim Patrick (Denver Broncos) – This is more of a deeper league recommendation. The Broncos lost WR Jerry Jeudy to a high-ankle sprain and will miss multiple games. Patrick is roughly seven inches taller than WR KJ Hamler. Patrick will be looked at to fill-in the role Jeudy had in the offense.
  • TE Cole Kmet (Chicago Bears) – Kmet is an undervalued tight end in fantasy. I’m not a fan of Bears QB Andy Dalton, but he did target Kmet seven times against the Rams. This week’s match-up against the Bengals is much more favorable.
  • WR Julio Jones (Tennessee Titans)Jones didn’t impress any Titans fans in his first game with the team. He only caught three passes for 29 yards on six targets. The Titans face the Seahawks this week, a great match-up for Jones. I think he bounces back in Week 2.
  • RB Jamaal Williams (Detroit Lions) – Williams had a big showing in his first game with the Lions. He found the end zone and combined for over 100 yards (nine carries and eight receptions). He faces his former team (Packers) this week and I expect him to be involved quite a bit in the gameplan.
  • Buffalo Bills Defense & Special Teams – The Bills defense played great for the first three quarters in their loss to the Steelers. I expect a much stronger overall effort against an average Dolphins offense. They could force Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa to make a few bad decisions.
  • QB Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams) – Stafford played great against the Bears in Week 1. He hasn’t had a solid offensive line AND a great defense probably ever in his career. He faces the Colts this week, a team that allowed Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to throw four touchdowns and no picks last week. The Rams don’t have a strong running game, so I expect Stafford to throw a lot.

SIT’EM

  • RB Mike Davis (Atlanta Falcons) – I’m adding Davis in this section again because I feel like he’s owned in way too many leagues (95.1% in ESPN leagues). The Falcons offensive line isn’t great and I don’t see David haven’t much success behind them. Actually, RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson is more of a home run option as he’s used differently in the offense.
  • QB Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) – I mentioned Tua’s name in the section above because he faces the Buffalo Bills this week. I love the speed and strength of Buffalo’s front-seven. They will put a lot of pressure on Tua and he could make some poor decisions.
  • WR Brandon Aiyuk (San Francisco 49ers) – Aiyuk is dealing with a hamstring injury and didn’t get a single target last week. He will be a bigger part of the offense once healthy, but I would avoid starting him until you see signs of that.
  • RB Sony Michel (Los Angeles Rams) – Michel is still very new to the Rams offense as they made a trade to acquire him during the preseason. He wasn’t productive against the Bears as RB Darrell Henderson is the clear RB1. Michel is owned in way too many leagues and you should look to add Ravens RB Ty’Son Williams or Colts RB Nyheim Hines over him.
  • QB Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) – Lawrence has a bad match-up this week. I think he could struggle against the Broncos. I think he will get better as the season goes on, but he doesn’t look as comfortable as Patriots rookie QB Mac Jones at the moment.
  • WR Randall Cobb (Green Bay Packers) – Cobb only caught one pass last week, but it was an overall poor outing from the Packers offense. Cobb may not be a consistent PPR league start. I would prefer teammate WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling over Cobb.
  • TE Zach Ertz (Philadelphia Eagles) – Ertz is dealing with a hamstring injury and his playing status is uncertain. I don’t see him as a good fantasy option this season unless TE Dallas Goedert gets injured himself. I’d rather have Bears TE Cole Kmet or Jaguars TE James O’Shaughnessy over Ertz this week, and for the rest of the year.
  • San Francisco 49ers Defense & Special Teams – The Niners will be must-start for most of the season, but there are a few exceptions. They play the Eagles this week and they have the ability to move the ball well. I didn’t like how they collapsed in the fourth quarter against the Lions. They had a big lead and nearly lost the game.
  • RB Latavius Murray (Baltimore Ravens) – I mentioned Murray in the section above, but I feel like I need to cement my recommendation by doubling-down. Ty’Son Williams in the Ravens running back you want. Murray could be decent in deep PPR leagues, as he will be more active in the passing game, but I would still avoid him in standard leagues.
