2020 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 6

COVID-19 continues to be a challenge, but the NFL has been able to move games around so far. One game was cancelled last week and one was moved to Tuesday. Let’s hope this outbreak calms down since delaying games and moving games around will be more difficult later in the year.

We have a pretty good marquee game that will pit Packers QB Aaron Rodgers against Bucs QB Tom Brady. They haven’t played each other a ton in their careers, so it’s nice to see at least one more meeting before one of them call it quits.

There’s no Thursday night games this week, so you can take a couple extra days to tinker with your lineup.

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) – The Packers are coming off their bye week. They are 4-0 on the year and after a few ho-hum seasons in fantasy, Rodgers is putting together his best fantasy season since 2016. He has thrown 13 touchdown passes and has yet to throw an interception. He is also helped greatly by his team’s potent running game. He faces the Bucs this week, who have struggled against the pass. He should be a top-six fantays quarterback this week.
  • RB David Johnson (Houston Texans) – Johnson was rather quiet the first few games this season. He still hasn’t had a breakout game, but he played much better against the Jaguars last week. He faces a tougher foe in Tennessee this week, but I have a feeling he will be used much more in the passing game this week. He has great hands and you will need a short-passing game against the Titans.
  • WR Chase Claypool (Pittsburgh Steelers) – Claypool might be a bit boom-or-bust since a lot of his value is tied to touchdowns, but after last week’s four-touchdown performance, he’s worth a waiver claim. If WR Diontae Johnson has to miss the game this week due to his back injury, Claypool will be worth a start.
  • TE Robert Tonyan (Green Bay Packers) – Here is another potential boom-or-bust player. Tonyan has only received 14 targets this season, but has caught five touchdowns. If you don’t have one of the top fantasy tight ends on your team, your tight end will most likely already be a bit boom-or-bust. Tonyan could be worth a start if you don’t own a top-tier tight end like Travis Kelce or George Kittle.
  • Chicago Bears Defense & Special Teams – The Bears travel to Carolina this weekend. The Panthers are coming off a very good performance against a bad Falcons team. Chicago will pressure Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater and their corners should be able to hang with their speedy deep threat receivers.
  • RB Damien Harris (New England Patriots) – I know the Patriots backfield can be a crapshoot since there are so many mouths to feed, but I think Harris would be a smart bet this week. Patriots QB Cam Newton should be back after his bout with COVID-19. I expect a steady diet of carries for the Patriots backfield against the Broncos.
  • WR Mecole Hardman (Kansas City Chiefs) – It took a couple games for Hardman to start seeing more targets this season. He should see even more now that WR Sammy Watkins could be out due to a hamstring injury. The Chiefs travel to Buffalo this wek, so they will need to be creative with their offense against a young, fast defense. I think they will get the ball in Hardman’s hands more often this week.
  • TE Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – The Bucs lost TE O.J. Howard for the season and TE Rob Gronkowski has been slowed down with a shoulder injury. Brate has great hands and the veteran is a very capable tight end. If your tight end is on bye, maybe take a flyer on Brate this week against the Packers.
  • WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars) – I had Shenault in this section last week and he had the best game of his career. It’s clear that Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is looking for Shenault. He has big play potential every time he touches the ball. He should have a decent match-up against the Lions secondary.
  • RB Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings) – If you own Vikings RB Dalvin Cook, I hope you were able to snag Mattison. It doesn’t look like Cook will be available this week as he has an injury to his adductor. Mattison was very good in Cook’s absence. He carried the ball 20 times for 112 yards against the Seahawks. He will also face the lowly Falcons defense.
  • Miami Dolphins Defense & Special Teams – The Dolphins are getting a little swagger in their step. Their defense was too much for returning Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo to handle. They face a bad Jets offense on Sunday. If you stream defenses, the Dolphins are a defense I would target this week.
  • QB Andy Dalton (Dallas Cowboys) – I can’t believe Dalton has put himself into a situation where we may have to start him in fantasy again. The Cowboys have a pass-friendly offense with talented receivers. They also have one of the best running backs in the NFL. The reason I’m saying you should pick up Dalton is because of the Cowboys horrid pass defense. Dallas will most likely need to score points in a hurry at some point against the Cardinals. I love Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott, but Dalton will need to throw in those situations. He’s better than most of the backup QBs in the NFL. He had good seasons in Cincinnati, but his downfall there was quick. I know it’s super risky, but if you own a QB on bye (Derek Carr, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson or Justin Herbert), Dalton could be worth a Hail Mary this week.

SIT’EM

  • RB Macolm Brown (Los Angeles Rams) – Brown has fallen down the depth chart since he injured his hand early this season. RB Cam Akers appears to have leapfrogged him last week. I know the Rams look at their running back situation as a three-headed monster, but Brown is doing the least with the amount of carries he is getting every game. Brown is barely a flex play in deep leagues at this point.
  • QB Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns) – Mayfield has strung together a couple of good games, but he could struggle against the Steelers defense. It will already be an emotional game due to last year’s Myles Garrett/Mason Rudolph fight. Mayfield tends to make some bonehead plays when he tries to do too much. Mayfield hasn’t played well against the Steelers in his young career. I don’t see him having a fantasy-worthy game on Sunday.
  • WR Terry McLaurin (Washington Football Team) – It’s no secret that Terry McLaurin and Dwayne Haskins are tight. They were teammates at Ohio State and McLaurin’s targets shot up once Haskins became the starter. He only had three catches for 26 yards last week. He faces a below average Giants secondary, but I don’t see McLaurin as more than just a potential flex play.
  • RB Devin Singletary (Buffalo Bills) – Singletary had a very forgettable game against the Titans. He only gained 25 yards on eleven attempts and started to lose playing time to RB T.J. Yeldon, who was doing more with his touches. There’s a chance that RB Zack Moss could return this week and carries will start to thin out for Singletary, especially if Yeldon continues to do more with his carries.
  • QB Tom Brady (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – I wasn’t a fan of Brady last week against the Bears, and it was a very forgettable game for him. He only threw for 253 yards with one touchdown. He faces the Packers this week and will have issues against them, especially if many of his receivers are still banged up. You may have to start him due to the bye weeks, but I just don’t expect a big game from the GOAT.
  • WR Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) – A wide receiver is only as good as his quarterback. Samuel only caught two of his eight targets last week and finished with just 19 receiving yards. Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in his first game back from injury and was replaced by his backup in the second-half. The Niners face a more talented defense this week as they play the Rams. It could be another long game for the Niners and I don’t expect Samuel to get back to being a potential fantasy stud until his starting quarterback is healthy.
  • TE Jack Doyle & Mo Alie-Cox (Indianapolis Colts) – The Colts tight end position has been super weird this week. Most expected a solid year from Doyle, but he suffered an injury early this year and Alie-Cox saw some success in relief. Well, another face has arrived to the arena. It appears that TE Trey Burton could be the featured tight end for the Colts. They signed him this offseason, but he missed the first few games due to injury. Last week, Burton was targeted six times and caught five passes for 33 yards. Doyle and Alie-Cox were targeted three times combined and neither caught a single pass. The Colts tight end situation is too murky for me to dabble in at the moment, so I’m avoid them all right now.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense & Special Teams – As I said earlier, the Bucs face the Packers this week and I don’t expect a big game from Tampa Bay. The Packers could be the best team in the NFL and even though the Bucs have a lot of established veterans on the team, they haven’t impressed me much this season. I’d rather start the Dolphins defense this week.
  • WR A.J. Green (Cincinnati Bengals) – Green appears to be falling down the depth chart in Cincinnati. Wide receivers Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins have seized a larger role in the offense. Green only caught one of his six targets combined in his last two games. He faces an underrated Colts pass defense this week. I would start either Boyd or Higgins over Green at the moment.
  • RB Devonta Freeman (New York Giants) – Freeman is starting to get his ‘football legs’ this year. He was signed off the unemployment line when RB Saquon Barkley blew out his knee. Even though he is starting to gain more than two yards per carry, I’d still avoid him. His best game was against a horrible Cowboys defense. I would still start someone like RB Chase Edmonds, RB Damien Harris or RB Mark Ingram over Freeman.
