We have full strength teams from this point until the end of the season, but it’s still important to look at match-ups. Even some of the better players in fantasy can run into a bad match-up.
You may begin to start having some tough decisions every week. That flex spot could be a hard one to pick. Bye weeks suck, but they can make decisions much easier since you don’t have many options. Don’t stress too much about it. I tend to stress a little, but once I make a decision, I set my lineup and forget it.
Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 13 of the 2019 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Ryan Tannehill of the Tennessee Titans.
I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.
START’EM
- QB Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) – Tannehill has some favorable match-ups coming up and has been a consistent top-ten quarterback since taking over as the starter in Tennessee. He faces the Colts, who have stopped the run this year, but are vulnerable through the air. It will be interesting to see if RB Derrick Henry can get going against Indy. If he can’t, Tannehill will be used heavily in this week’s game.
- WR Darius Slayton (New York Giants) – The Giants look like they will be without TE Evan Engram and WR Sterling Shepard (again), so Slayton is the guy you want on the Giants. WR Golden Tate suffered a concussion last game as well and his status is up in the air. The Giants face the Packers, who let the Niners really carve them up through the air. Slayton would be a smart start this week.
- RB Le’Veon Bell (New York Jets) – Bell didn’t crack 100 yards rushing last week, but he did get over 100 if you combine his rushing and receiving yards against the Raiders. The Jets smoked Oakland and they have Cincinnati next on the schedule. He should have a solid game and should still be an RB2 or Flex this week.
- QB Sam Darnold (New York Jets) – Yes, I am suggesting two New York Jets this week. The Bengals are abhorrent and they are dusting off QB Andy Dalton to start again. Darnold will be able to throw on the Bengals and use short passes to Bell to move the ball down the field. Hell, he may even get some passes to WR Robby Anderson, who I have routinely crapped on all year.
- Chicago Bears Defense & Special Teams – The Lions will either have Jeff Driskel or former Purdue QB David Blough start at QB on Thanksgiving. Driskel is dealing with a hamstring injury and if he can’t go, Blough will get the start. I think the Bears defense will have the advantage either way and they will be a smart play.
- RB Jonathan Williams (Indianapolis Colts) – Williams is becoming a late-season gem in fantasy. He doesn’t appear to be in any kind of timeshare as RB Jordan Wilkins is barely getting in the game. RB Nyheim Hines is still getting plenty of work, but he plays on passing downs. Williams is a hot add and you should snatch him up if he’s available in your league.
- WR Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) – Samuel has continued to be a solid fantasy wide receiver. He only had two catches last week, but he did score a touchdown. He does have a tougher match-up, but as long as he isn’t covered by Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey, I think he could still be a nice flex play.
- TE Noah Fant (Denver Broncos) – Fant didn’t do well against the Bills last week, but should fare much better against the Chargers this week. It may also help if the Broncos activate and start rookie QB Drew Lock, but they’ve been elusive on an answer for that decision.
- WR James Washington (Pittsburgh Steelers) – The Steelers haven’t had a ton of big plays in the passing game. Washington might be their only real threat now that WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is being handled by the opposing team’s best corner. Pittsburgh benched QB Mason Rudolph and will start QB Devlin Hodges, who connected with Washington last week on a 79-yard passing touchdown.
- TE Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins) – There aren’t a ton of great fantasy tight ends and sometimes you just need to go with a tight end that consistently gets a solid number of targets a game. Gesicki has received at least six targets in all the recent games QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has started. They face the Eagles on Sunday, which could be a competitive game.
- New York Jets Defense & Special Teams – I feel like I’m going a bit overboard with my Jets love this week, but I don’t see the Bengals scored much on Sunday. The Jets have a very underrated run defense and I don’t see Bengals QB Andy Dalton being able to move the ball much either.
- RB LeSean McCoy (Kansas City Chiefs) – McCoy hasn’t been the most consistent running back this season, but the Chiefs have used their running backs late in games when they have a lead. The Raiders were horrible last week and the Chiefs could use McCoy late to help drain the clock.
- WR Terry McLaurin (Washington Redskins) – McLaurin was targeted 12 times last week in their 19-16 win against the Lions. He grabbed the the final pass that put them in field goal position late in the game. He was a college teammate of Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins and it’s clear that they have great chemistry.
SIT’EM
- RB Frank Gore (Buffalo Bills) – Last week, Gore surpassed Barry Sanders for #3 on the all-time rushing leaderboard. It was also his first good game in quite awhile. The reason he had 15 carries was because the Bills were up by so much late in the game. It’s clear that RB Devin Singletary is the #1 back, so they just wanted to let Gore go out there and pass Barry while Singletary rested for this week. I don’t see the Bills playing Gore much at all this week.
- WR Mohamed Sanu (New England Patriots) – Sanu only caught two passes for four yards last week against the Eagles. He’s losing targets to rookie WR N’Keal Harry and Sanu isn’t getting enough targets to be worth a roster spot in fantasy. The Patriots is loaded with receivers and Sanu is getting lost.
- QB Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Winston has thrown 20 interceptions this year. The only reason he’s owned in 80% of fantasy leagues is because he has thrown for more than 300 yards in eight of his last nine games. He faces the Jaguars this week, which will be a rough match-up for him. He will most likely throw more interceptions than touchdowns again.
- RB Derrius Guice (Washington Redskins) – Guice is owned by over 50% of leagues and I don’t understand why he is still owned. In his two games back from injury, he only has a total of 17 carries for 56 yards with no touchdowns. Drop him and add Lions RB Bo Scarbrough or Eagles RB Miles Sanders.
- QB Nick Foles (Jacksonville Jaguars) – Foles hasn’t been bad since he returned from injury, but he hasn’t been good either. The Bucs are an okay match-up for him, but there are just a dozen other quarterbacks I’d rather start over Foles this week. Go grab Titans QB Ryan Tannehill or Jets QB Sam Darnold instead of Foles.
- WR Auden Tate (Cincinnati Bengals) – Tate had a little run of fantasy relevance, but he’s been below average since about Week 8. He’s still owned in plenty of leagues and I don’t think the return of QB Andy Dalton will help Tate’s numbers. I’d rather play Niners WR Deebo Samuel, Cowboys WR Randall Cobb or Bills WR Cole Beasley.
- TE O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Howard is owned in 40% of leagues….what?! He has caught one touchdown all season and only has 18 receptions on the year. Just end it and drop him right now. Colts TE Jack Doyle is owned in 43% of leagues and will receive SOO many more targets than Howard will the rest of the season. You should pick up Doyle or even Jets TE Ryan Griffin.
- Minnesota Vikings Defense & Special Teams – The Vikings have a great defense, but they face the Seahawks this week. It’s just not a very opportunistic match-up for them. I’d rather pick up the Rams or Jaguars defenses this week.
- QB Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams) – Goff has been pretty bad this season. He has killed a lot of his wide receivers’ fantasy value. He has a decent match-up this week as the Cardinals pass defense has been pretty bad most of the year. Cardinals pass defense has improved since CB Patrick Peterson came back from his suspension, but it’s still not up to par with most of the league.
- RB Chris Carson (Seattle Seahawks) – Carson has fumbled six times this season. Seattle could soon look to give his backup RB Rashaad Penny more work, as he ran for 114 yards last week against the Eagles. I think it’s only a matter of time before Penny eclipses him in touches.
