It’s been awhile since I posted about upcoming Funko releases. I think I may have skipped the last series, but the upcoming toys to be released in early-2020 are must-haves.
We have reviewed a lot of Mattel’s WWE Elite figures, but Funko has also released solid figures in the past. I’m a big collector and you can see some of my collection on my Instagram, @vintagetoybob.
This upcoming set has a couple chase figures and exclusives that can be found at Amazon and Wal-Mart. We will also see the first Hulk Hogan Funko figure since his racist remarks were made public years ago.
Here are some pictures of Funko’s Winter 2020 WWE POP! vinyl releases.
The Miz – I’m not sure how big of a seller this will be, but it’s the first Miz figure released by Funko, so it may surprise me. One strike that goes against this figure is that he didn’t wear this attire for very long, especially those odd sunglasses.
‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund – Mean Gene was an iconic figure in the WWF in the 80’s and 90’s. He passed away recently and this is a must-have for any old school wrestling fan.
Naomi – Not only will Naomi get a Funko release, but she is getting a special chase release that glows in the dark. I love when Funko takes their chases to the next level, especially the ‘flocked’ and ‘glow in the dark’ versions.
Kevin Nash & Diesel – Just like Razor Ramon and Scott Hall, Funko is releasing Diesel in the regular series and the NWO Kevin Nash is the chase. This is another step in the right direction for Funko as some of their WWE chases in the past have been lazy. These figures are completely different and not just the same mold with a different paint job.
John Cena (Word Life Flashback) – It’s been awhile since we’ve had a Cena release from Funko and this Word Life version is well overdue. I think it will sell and is one of the best in the set.
The Fiend (Bray Wyatt) – This will most likely be the first figure of The Fiend. It takes Mattel roughly 10-12 months to design a figure, but Funko doesn’t have to worry about articulation, so they have don’t have as long of a turnaround. This figure will be an Amazon exclusive and you can pre-order it right now. I believe the release date is in February 2020.
Hulk Hogan – This is a Wal-Mart exclusive and will be the first Hulk Hogan figure released by either Funko or Mattel in many years. This Hogan figure looks to be from the late-80’s or early-90’s, the prime Hulkamania years. This one should be a hot one for Funko and Wal-Mart.
All of these figures ‘should’ be released by February 2020. My guess is that the Hulk Hogan figure at Wal-Mart could be released after February as an oversized Andre the Giant was due to be released some time this Fall, but it has yet to be released.
