I started off strong this year and have stumbled a bit the last two weeks. I’m still over .500 on the year with the conference schedule starting for most teams this week.
There are some big Big Ten and SEC games this week. The Wisconsin/Michigan game is probably the marquee contest in the Big Ten this week. Michigan haven’t looked like the usual juggernaut and could be prime for a beating. In the SEC, Texas A&M/Auburn contest will be the one to watch.
We at ‘America’s White Boy’ pick 25 college football games against the spread in Week 4 of the 2019-20 NCAA Football season (September 21st,, 2019). We also pick some smaller conference games.
Utah at USC (+4) – My pick is Utah Utes
USC will always be a little inconsistent with a freshman at quarterback. USC QB Kedon Slovis limited turnovers in his first two games, but he coughed up three picks in an overtime loss to BYU last week. Utah’s defense is pretty good and they have a smarter, more experienced quarterback in Tyler Huntley. This is a bad opponent for USC at this time of the year, so I’m taking the Utes to cover at USC.
Michigan at Wisconsin (-3.5) – My pick is Wisconsin Badgers
I’m not a believer in Michigan’s defense. They lost a lot of talent on that side of the ball and they don’t have the young talent to replace them right away. The Wolverines have relied heavily on their defense to bail out their suspect offense over the last couple of years, but they can’t do it this year. The offense is playing without a net and I don’t see them having a good game against the Badgers.
Washington at BYU (+6.5) – My pick is Washington Huskies
BYU are coming off two overtime games against Tennessee and USC. The Vols are struggling and USC is dealing with injury issues, so neither game shines a very good light on BYU. The Cougars benefited from an inexperienced quarterback under center at USC and they forced three interceptions. I don’t see them having an easy time forcing mistakes from Washington QB Jacob Eason, who has been very good so far this year. The Huskies defense will extend the lead late and cover on the road.
UCF at Pittsburgh (+11.5) – My pick is UCF Knights
UCF smoked Stanford last week in a surprising 45-27 blowout. UCF QB Dillon Gabriel played almost perfect as he carved up the Cardinal defense. Pittsburgh had their moments against Penn State last week, but they made some bonehead coaching decisions late. It’s hard for any team to hang with UCF right now as their offense might be one of the best in the country, so I’m taking UCF to cover at Pitt.
Louisville at Florida State (-6.5) – My pick is Louisville Cardinals
Florida State QB James Blackman is probably the best option Florida State has at quarterback, but he’s limited. He will struggle to complete passes against an above average secondary. Louisville’s secondary doesn’t have the playmakers to really make Blackman look bad, but he could struggle at times. Louisville’s running game could be the difference in this game and will keep this game close, so I’m taking the points.
Auburn at Texas A&M (-3.5) – My pick is Auburn Tigers
This could be one of the better games of the weekend. These teams are pretty evenly matched, but the game could come down to Texas A&M’s front-seven versus Auburn’s running game. A&M QB Kellen Mond has a slight edge over Auburn’s secondary, but I think Auburn’s running game had a huge edge in their battle. Mond will probably throw for 300+ yards, but multiple running backs for Auburn could eclipse 100+ yards on the ground. This will be a close game and I have to take the points.
Oregon at Stanford (+10.5) – My pick is Oregon Ducks
UCF handled Stanford last week and Oregon’s talent on offense is greater than UCF. Oregon doesn’t rely as much on scheme as UCF, but their overall talent across the board on offense is better. Stanford could be able to score a little better, but Oregon QB Justin Herbert could have a Heisman-level output against the Cardinal on Saturda…so I’m taking Oregon to cover.
Notre Dame at Georgia (-14.5) – My pick is Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Georgia will probably win this game outright, but the Irish aren’t getting much respect from Vegas. Irish QB Ian Book has improved and is a legit throwing quarterback, not a run-first quarterback like QB Brandon Wimbush was for the Irish. The Bulldogs has an impressive defense, but the Irish will put up points against Georgia. It will be a close game, so I’m taking the points.
Oklahoma State at Texas (-5.5) – My pick is Texas Longhorns
Oklahoma State doesn’t have the talent at quarterback to make this a close game. The Longhorns can stack the box to limit RB Chuba Hubbard (as much as they can), but the Cowboys won’t be able to convert long 3rd and goals. It’s just not going to happen. The Longhorns will cover at home.
Bowling Green at Kent State (-11) – My pick is Kent State Golden Flashes
This is where we pick a game between smaller conference teams. Bowling Green is one of the worst teams in the FBS. They will struggle against any team left on their schedule. Kent State has faced from tough competition so far, but are still looking for their first win against an FBS team. If you’ve watched a minute of any Bowling Green game this year, it would take a much larger point spread to lay a single penny on them right now, so I’m taking Kent State to cover.
