2018 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 13

There are finally no more bye weeks left in the NFL season…but injuries are still knocking out decent fantasy players, so depth is still as important than ever.

Also, you will start to see more and more teams that are ‘out of contention’ start to sit their star players…or star players will begin to sit for relatively minor injuries.

You could have some logjams are different positions now that a full sixteen-game schedule is underway. We will try to help you whittle down your decisions.

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 13 of the 2018 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers) – Newton has a good match-up this weekend when the Panthers face the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay struggles against the pass and Newton usually torches bad pass defenses. Carolina tends to be more conservative with their passing game when facing the top-sixteen teams in the league. Newton should have a very good fantasy week.
  • WR Robert Woods (Los Angeles Rams) – Now that there aren’t any byes left, you could have a logjam at wide receiver. You could have some tough decisions the next few weeks. Woods is coming off bye and needs to be in your lineup. He faces the Lions, who have been horrible against #2 and #3 receivers.
  • RB Gus Edwards (Baltimore Ravens) Edwards came out of nowhere two weeks ago. He played the most snaps and really made the most out of them. He proved that he wasn’t a one-week wonder, as he had a good game last week against the Raiders. The Falcons are a tougher match-up, but should be a solid flex option this week.
  • QB Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks) – Wilson hasn’t been a must-start in fantasy this year. He struggled early this season when his pass protection was a mess, but has had a few good fantasy weeks sprinkled throughout the season. Seattle has focused more on their running game lately, but he managed to have a very good game last week. Wilson isn’t getting the quantity, but he is doing more with his passing attempts. Seattle faces San Francisco this weekend and the Niners, who have been rolling out the red carpet for quarterbacks.
  • RB Austin Ekeler (Los Angeles Chargers) – Now that RB Melvin Gordon is out with a knee injury, Ekeler is the man for the Chargers. He has done well as the backup this season and I’m excited to see what he does this week against the Steelers. Running backs have done well against the Steelers lately, so this match-up isn’t bad for Ekeler.
  • Kansas City Chiefs Defense & Special Teams – The Chiefs haven’t been a must-start defense this year, but most defenses have had a field day against the Raiders this season. This is the kind of game the Chiefs need after giving up a buttload of points against the Rams in their last game.
  • RB Aaron Jones (Green Bay Packers) – Jones is playing his best football right now. He is really running away with the starting job and has left the other running backs on the Packers sitting on the sidelines. Green Bay faces Arizona this weekend, who might have the worst run defense in the NFL. Jones should have a really good fantasy output this week.
  • WR D.J. Moore (Carolina Panthers) – I mentioned Newton earlier and I can’t mention him without throwing Moore on this list. The Buccaneers pass defense has given up many big plays to speedy receivers. Newton could find Moore on a deep route more than once on Sunday.
  • TE Eric Ebron (Indianapolis Colts) – Colts tight end Jack Doyle is on injured-reserve, so it’s Ebron’s time to shine. He was fantastic when Doyle was out earlier this season with a hip injury and should have a good game against the Jaguars. If you’re in a deep league, I’d even take a flyer on TE Mo Alie-Cox…even if both Ebron and Cox are dealing with some injuries.
  • TE Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers – TE O.J. Howard is on injured-reserve and Brate took advantage of his increased playing time. He’s a guy you will want the rest of the season. He should be a top-ten tight end from this point forward.
  • Tennessee Titans Defense & Special Teams – The Titans have an underrated defense and can really smother bad offenses. They play the Jets this week, a team who is struggling with injuries and overall bad play. It could be a long game for the Jets.e
  • WR Tre’Quan Smith (New Orleans Saints) – The Saints played it safe on Thanksgiving by sitting Smith. They knew they didn’t need him to win, so they didn’t risk it. He has another Thursday game this week, but playing him isn’t as risky. He’s been a full participant in practices and should have a good game against Dallas.
  • RB Josh Adams (Philadelphia Eagles) – Adams has been the #1 back in Philly the last few weeks and have been doing some damage. He has a tough match-up this week as he faces the Redskins on Monday Night Football. Washington has been able to stop most running backs this season (Ezekiel Elliott is really the only RB that has performed well). Adams should be fantasy-worthy due to his ability to pick and hole and burst through it. He doesn’t waste any time dancing in the backfield like many indecisive, young running backs.
  • WR Kenny Golladay (Detroit Lions) – Golladay has been averaging nearly 12 targets per game since they traded WR Golden Tate to Philly. The Rams could decide to completely lock him down and double-team him all game since the Lions don’t have any other above average healthy receivers left. He should still get plenty of targets and he’s talented enough to do a little damage with them. He’s a flex option in all leagues.

SIT’EM

  • WR Calvin Ridley (Atlanta Falcons) – The Ravens defense is very underrated, especially against slot receivers. Ridley isn’t your prototypical slot receiver, but he doesn’t lineup on the outside. I don’t see Ridley getting too many targets this weekend.
  • RB Jordan Howard (Chicago Bears) – Howard is turning into a ‘touchdown or bust’ fantasy player. He doesn’t have good hands and RB Tarik Cohen gets all of those opportunities. There are other running backs out there with less touchdown-heavy fantasy outputs.
  • QB Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) – I’ve listed Stafford here a lot this season. If you’re still starting him, I really don’t know what to say. He comes into this game with even less targets now that WR Marvin Jones is dealing with a knee injury. The Rams don’t have a great pass rush, but they have players at other positions that will force Stafford into throwing some bad balls.
  • RB Marlon Mack (Indianapolis Colts) – Mack is dealing with concussion issues this week and his availability is up in the air. He has a decent match-up against the struggling Jags. I wouldn’t count on Mack suiting up this week. He could be a last-minute add, but there are other running backs out there with even better match-ups on the waiver wire.
  • WR Demaryius Thomas (Houston Texans) – Thomas is another player who has relied too much on touchdowns. He was only targeted five times last week, but caught two touchdowns. QB Deshaun Watson isn’t looking for him much, but the redzone targets are nice. He faces the Browns, who has a tangible pass defense. Watson could struggle to find open receivers, even if they continue to run the ball at a high volume.
  • RBs Mike Davis & Rashaad Penny (Seattle Seahawks) – Seattle RB Chris Carson is the running back you want in Seattle. He’s getting the most work and has a touchdown in three of his last four games. Davis and Penny are now deep, deep league targets.
  • TE Jimmy Graham (Green Bay Packers) – Packers QB Aaron Rodgers isn’t looking for Graham these days. His fantasy output is consistently bad. The Cardinals have only allowed three fantasy touchdowns this season to opposing tight ends.
  • Minnesota Vikings Defense & Special Teams – The Vikings have been a solid fantasy defense this year, but nowhere near what many expected from them this season. They have a bad match-up this week as they face the Patriots. I’d sit them this week.
  • QB Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) – Allen had a fantastic statline against the Jaguars, but don’t expect that ouput again. He faces the Dolphins, which on paper isn’t a horrible match-up, but he’s still a young quarterback with questionable accuracy.
  • WR Jarvis Landry (Cleveland Browns) – I’m sure you drafted Landry pretty high in your draft, but this could be back-to-back sits for him. QB Baker Mayfield isn’t getting enough (catchable) targets in his direction. Landry is dealing with a rookie quarterback still trying to find his way in the NFL. He could be boom or bust the rest of the season.
