There’s always a lot of turnover on the College Basketball All-Name Team. Many good names only appear on the list for one year and then they either fail out of school or enter the NBA Draft. There are a few names on this year’s list that will no doubt be a one-and-done entrant.
We picked through every Division-I college basketball roster and a few smaller schools for our list. This year’s class is solid and right up there with last year’s All-Name Team.
My name is Bobby Roberts, so I am often jealous of people with unique names. The most unique thing about my name is that I was not born ‘Robert Roberts’, Bobby is my given name. I don’t know too many grown men named Bobby.
This list consists of names that we wished he had and ones we find humorous. Enjoy!
Before I get started, I noticed something while going through college basketball rosters. I’ve been doing these ‘All-Name Team’ posts for many years, so I see myself as a name trend expert…at least trends that occurred 20-ish years ago.
Just like a few years ago when we were swarmed with many freshmen named Shaq or Shaquille and last year many different spellings of ‘Kobe’ hit college basketball rosters for the first time. The Kobe’s kept coming this season along with some Anfernee’s, which was nice to see (I see ya, Penny). I even saw some Tupac-inspired names this year. It will be a couple years before we start seeing some guys named LeBron grace college basketball.
Some names on the list may not be their birth name, but these are the names included in the media guides. That’s good enough for us. Once again, if your name sounds like it could be a funny or awesome pro wrestling name (or unbelievably difficult to pronounce), you will appear on this list.
