Heading to the beach is a brilliant way to spend a day or two during the summer. Sunbathing on the sand and having a swim in the sea is the perfect way to relax, but some people find that a bit boring. If you’re a very active person, the idea of laying on the beach all day doing nothing isn’t that attractive. That doesn’t mean you should miss out altogether though. There are loads of great beach sports that you can play while you’re there. Next time you head to the beach, why not try out some of these great sports?
Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball is one of the most popular beach sports because it’s easy to pick up, and anybody can get involved. All you need is a net and you’re ready to go. It doesn’t really matter how many people you’ve got on each team and people can drop in and out as they please so it’s the perfect, easy going game to play at the beach.
Windsurfing
If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting than a game of beach volleyball, why not try your hand at windsurfing. It can be dangerous so make sure that you get all of the right equipment, like a wetsuit and a kapok life vest to make sure that you don’t get into trouble if you fall off. It’s best to take a few lessons before you spend the money on a board of your own because it’s not something that you can pick up as easily as a game of beach volleyball.
Surfing
If you’ve got great balance and you want a bit of a challenge, surfing is the one for you. It’s difficult to get started, so be prepared to fall off. A lot. But once you get the hang of it, you can have endless hours of fun. You’ll need to make sure that you’ve got good enough waves so check online to see if your local beach is suitable for surfing.
Ultimate Frisbee
A game of frisbee has long been a staple of the traditional day at the beach, but why not take it to the next level and have a game of ultimate frisbee? It’s a relatively new sport but it’s gaining ground very quickly with teams popping up all over the country. The rules are easy to pick up and the only equipment you need is a frisbee. Draw a few lines in the sand to make endzones and you’re ready to go. Anybody can play, no matter what their skill level so it’s a great, inclusive game to play with big groups.
Beach Flags
The game is called beach flags but really, you can play it with anything that you like. It’s such a simple game but it offers hours of fun. All you need to do is set up the flags, or whatever objects you’re using, in a line. Use one less than the number of people you have playing. Then, on the count of three, you all run and grab a flag. Whoever is left without one gets knocked out. Carry on until you’re down to just one person.
Try out these great beach sports this summer, to stop yourself getting bored of sunbathing.
