The Spurs have been a championship contender for so long that Coach Pop is just ‘over it’. He doesn’t want to talk about basketball or do interviews. He’s been this way for awhile. I don’t blame him. The guy just wants to play games and not do all the extra stuff.
The Spurs are once again one of the best teams in the league. Getting the #1 seed isn’t their goal. They will sit their stars when they see fit. They just want to keep their older players fresh and get in the playoffs, no matter the seed.
How many seasons do Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobli have left in them? Could this be their last together?
We will be posting a team preview for every team up until the start of the regular season.
Here is the 2014-15 NBA season preview for the San Antonio Spurs.
2013-14 Win/Loss Record: 62-20
Key Additions: SF Kyle Anderson
Key Losses: PG Nando de Colo
Projected Starters: Tiago Splitter, Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green & Tony Parker
Fantasy Sleeper: None – The Spurs are a known quantity. I don’t see anyone really coming out of nowhere on this team. Everyone already has established roles.
Team Analysis: The Spurs won another NBA title last year, but it was with a new superstar. Kawhi Leonard won Finals MVP and put his name in the same conversation as the best in the league. I’m curious to see if he lives up to his potential. He could easily crumble, but with all the veterans on his team, guidance isn’t hard to find.
The West is stacked once again. The road to another championship will not be easy. The Spurs have had issues repeating. Duncan, Diaw and Ginobli are getting long in the tooth. The Spurs will need to rely on Leonard in order to reach the Finals again.
How will the Spurs season end? Another trip to the Western Conference is almost certain. As far as repeating, I don’t see it in the cards. The playoffs are a brutal animal. Getting through the Western Conference three seasons in the row is just too hard. Also, I could easily see Duncan hanging it up after this season.
2014-15 Wins Over/Under Betting Line: 56.5 (Prediction: UNDER)
2014-15 Projected Win/Loss Record: 56-26 (2nd in Western Conference)
