The Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns may have just shocked the world.
The Colts are sending a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for running back Trent Richardson.
The Colts starting running back, Vick Ballard, tore his ACL in a practice last week, so they were in search for a running back.
Colts owner Jim Irsay hinted on Twitter last week that the team was searching for a replacement for Ballard. Many assumed that they were after Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure. Well, the Colts out-kicked their coverage with this trade.
The former #3 overall draft pick will be the starting running back going into the Colts next game (although may not be 100% effective until he learns the offense). Ahmad Bradshaw isn’t quite healed from offseason ankle surgery, so Richardson is expected to eventually take the majority of the carries. Bradshaw has excelled in the past as a third down back, since he has above average catching ability.
The Browns also announced today they are benching Brandon Weeden in favor of former New England Patriots backup Brian Hoyer.
The new Browns front office is blowing up the team to focus on rebuilding. Unfortunately for them, the Colts first-round pick will be somewhere in the middle of the draft, since they haven’t looked like a bad team so far this year.
Mike Lombardi better know what he’s doing. The Dog Pound are not a happy group of people.
