Reliving The 80’s In 2019: The Decade That Never Truly Went Away

If you were a child of the ’80s, and especially if you loved the pop culture of the time, there is little reason to look upon times past with a grieving heart and a wistful sigh! The decade never really went away, and as we shall consider in this article, there is much to enjoy in 2019 for any fan of the decade. Thankfully, gravity-defying hairstyles and giant shoulder pads do not make this list.

#1: Toys and games are making a comeback

With blockbusting movies such as the Star Wars trilogy, and hit tv-shows such as Transformers and She-Ra, toy shelves were bulging with playful merchandise that kids were desperate to get their hands on. And then there were video games; long before games consoles came into fashion, the arcades were packed with kids (and adults) playing Pac-Man, Frogger, Dig Dug, and the like. And guess what? They are still as popular as ever. She-Ra recently made a Netflix comeback, with merchandise to match. Retro gaming is more popular than ever, with downloadable titles available on all the major consoles, as well as miniature hand-held versions filling our gadget stores. Thanks to the success of the latest Bumblebee movie, Hasbro’s Transformers are due a comeback with retro-80s designs. And Star Wars, of course, has never gone away, with themed toys and video games as popular as ever. As we said a short while ago, it’s finally okay to embrace your inner geek. Enjoy!

The San Diego Comic-Con is the biggest comic book convention in the United States. It has grown into an overall nerd-vana with movie trailer premieres and Q&A panels with Hollywood stars.

If you’re an action figure (or toy) collector, a perk about SDCC is all the exclusive releases.

Funko has been releasing exclusive figures at SDCC for years, but over the last few years, they have been sharing the exclusives with certain retailers. It allows collectors all over the country a chance to buy some cool figures.

Funko announced all the exclusives this year, but haven’t announced which retailers will carry specific figures. Once that information comes out, I’ll update this post (*UPDATE* I’ve updated this post to show where each figure will be shared at retail).

Starting on July 19th, you should be able to find ‘most’ of these SDCC Funko exclusives at your local mall. Here’s the list of Funko exclusives for the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con.

The 20 Best Oddest, Weirdest Conspiracy Theories

I’m a big fan of random conspiracy theories. I don’t believe 95% of them, but it’s fun to know where some people’s minds go when alone. There are people who cannot be swayed away from some odd theory they cooked up in their minds, even if fact after fact proves them wrong.

I decided to post a list of twenty oddest, weirdest and most recent conspiracy theories on the internet.

If you’re looking to find more 9/11 inside job, Newtown massacre, Kennedy assassination, Moon landing and alien conspiracies, find them somewhere else. They have been overdone, especially Kennedy, who has had more books just focused on his assassination than about his entire life.

These aren’t in any order at all, but I had to start with the conspiracy theory that I actually believe.

The Pop Culture Trends That Stuck And Became A Part Of Our Daily Lives

pexels-photo-211050Pop culture trends usually start in large cities where young, hip metropolitan professionals congregate. Trends or FADs sometimes come out of nowhere but tend to be born, ferment and eventually permeate into the wider world. But as with all fashion, nothing lasts forever, and trends come in and out of popularity; some disappear for good. However, there are some trends that looked like any other, but somehow found a niche in society and stuck around.

Commuter bikes

Many people don’t cycle to work because of the risk that comes with it. A person on a bicycle whizzing around the city at rush hour, weaving through, in and out of traffic, avoid collisions at every corner…Doesn’t sound fun at all. It isn’t just that, it was the practicality of lugging around a great big bike, having to run the risk of leaving it in public for hours on end and not being very maneuverable in obscenely tight streets; such that you find in congested capital cities. Folding bikes like the tern link c7, changed the game forever. Now anyone can save energy and money simply by carrying around their own little mobile transport. It stuck, and hasn’t gone away; in fact, it spawned an entirely new consumer market.

2016 Maxim Hot 100 List

mtm5mdu4ndq5mjc0mte5mju2Maxim released its annual “Hot 100” list for 2016. This year’s list is quite different from previous years’ lists.

The 2016 Maxim Hot 100 does have a few familiar faces on it, but the list is mostly filled with runway models instead of young Hollywood starlets. I’m guessing it is because a pivot the magazine made over a year ago to make Maxim less of a guy’s magazine and more appealing to both men and women.

I admit that I’ve never heard of many women on this year’s list, but I’m not exactly familiar with the world of high fashion. But don’t worry, Sports Illustrated swimsuit models and Victoria’s Secret Angels are littered all over the Hot 100.

See who made Maxim’s Hot 100 list and let us know if you agree with them.

2015 Maxim Hot 100 List

Maxim released its annual “Hot 100” list for 2015. It’s filled with the usual suspects (Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, etc), but they always add a few up & coming starlets.

I’m quite late posting about Maxim’s Hot 100 list this year. I usually write up a post soon after the list is released. I comment on which women are too high on the list and note a few that were glaring omissions.

This year’s list is pretty solid, even though I’m not a huge fan of Taylor Swift (I hope her squad doesn’t read the site). I like many of the newcomers and as usual, the list is filled with Victoria’s Secret models.

See who made Maxim’s Hot 100 list and let us know if you agree with them.

The Movies that Made Us All Want to Win Big

Hollywood has always loved casinos. Over the years, countless films have taken advantage of the unique atmosphere and ambience of casinos to tell stories of dramatic gambles and life-changing wins.

It is no coincidence that the popularity of casino games has skyrocketed in the past 30 years, following the release of several films that changed the way people viewed casinos, and created a mystique around particular games that captivated theatre audiences.

Movies like Casino, Ocean’s Eleven, and Rounders made a huge impact on cinemagoers, and for many avid gamblers it was a movie experience that sparked their interest in games like poker and blackjack, long before they ever set foot in a casino.

“Orange Is The New Black” Season 3 Review

Orange Is The New Black Season 3 review netflix three piperI just finished binge-watching season three of “Orange Is The New Black” on Netflix. As a big fan of the first two seasons of the television show, I came into this season with high hopes…but I was left quite disappointed.

I don’t want to throw a bunch of spoilers in this review because I’m guessing only a handful of people have actually finished it by the time this is post is live. I know I would be mad if I had an entire season ruined for myself if I accidentally ran across spoilers before actively looking for them.

Season three is setup like the previous two seasons. You get present-day storylines with backstory flashbacks thrown into every episodes. I still like this method of storytelling, but the flashbacks are becoming less enjoyable.
