Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: June 2015

weird odd strange hipster America's White Boy Hipster Music Playlist June 2015I didn’t post a Hipster Music Playlist last month because I ran into a wall. Not literally, but I just spent way too much time trying to pick 15 songs I enjoyed enough to share with you guys. There’s a trend going on in indie music that I do not enjoy. Many bands are using low-fi recording and mixing on their tracks. I understand if you’re broke and can’t afford quality equipment, but with DIY recording programs being dirt cheap these days, it comes off as disingenuous. I do not enjoy bands trying to fake a grainy sound. Here’s a tip, if your vocalist sounds like they are singing through a late-90’s PC microphone, you’re doing it wrong.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

Since I skipped last month, I decided to super-size this month’s Hipster Music Playlist and include five extra songs.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: March 2015

Damn-Dirty-Hipster-Sweetbobs Hipster Music Playlist March 2015 America's White Boy funny weirdI’ve been drowning in MLB team previews and fantasy baseball position rankings, so I thoroughly enjoyed making this month’s Hipster Music Playlist. It is filled with new bands and some that might be familiar to you.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

I have been called a hipster on more than one occasion. I like indie music more than any other genre of music. Don’t get me wrong, I can rock out to Richard Marx or Ace of Base (depending on the amount of alcohol in my system).

These songs may not be able to melt the snow in your area, but I think you will enjoy them.

Here are 15 new indie songs I’m currently listening to. Your ears will thank you for listening!

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: February 2015

hipster funny playlist trash meme America's White Boy Hipster Music Playlist weirdFebruary is usually a pretty bad month here in the Midwest. Tons of snow makes for quite a hermetic lifestyle. You watch a lot of Netflix and try to find something to pass the time. We hope this month’s Hipster Music Playlist helps out.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: January 2015

funny hipster weird music playlist meme nerd geek2014 was a memorable year for the site. We had a record number in visitors. I want to thank everyone for making the site a fun place. I need to think of something special to do. In the meantime, we prepared a nice Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist this month.

January is usually an extremely slow month for music. I did manage to find some new material and a few gems off some albums released late last year.

39 Snarky Reasons To Watch Every Bowl Game

couch potato college football bowl games 2014-15There are 39 college football bowl games this season and to be honest, not all of them are worth watching. I do my best (and worst) to try to convince everyone to tune into every bowl game this season. I use cheerleader quality, famous alumni, hot girlfriends and I even quote the movie ‘Tombstone’ to coax you.

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Nevada vs Louisiana-Lafayette (December 20th) – The game is played at the Superdome, so if you’re into watching a non-neutral site bowl game in which 90% of the fans are rooting for Louisiana-Lafayette, this is your game. Sorry about your damn luck, Nevada.

Gildan New Mexico Bowl: UTEP vs Utah State (December 20th) – I only know UTEP exists because I bet on college football. If I didn’t, I would only know UTEP because Tim Hardaway played basketball there…so watch a team you (may) have never heard of play football!

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: Top 25 Songs of 2014

Nick Offerman Funny Parks and Recreation Ron Swanson hipster artI’ve made a Hipster Music Playlist nearly every month this year (I think I missed one). Each playlist has 15 fresh indie songs, so I’ve posted 165 songs this year.

I glazed through my ‘America’s White Boy Hipster Music Playlist‘ on Spotify and picked out the best 25 tracks I’ve posted this year. It took me quite awhile to narrow the list down (the last five were really hard to omit).

I was thinking about doing a ‘best albums of 2014’ list, but I fear it would take forever to whittle down to an easy, round number. There are at least 75 albums that deserve to be mentioned.

This list is all over the place. It has a little something for everyone. Also, if you’re a fan of Nick Offerman, he’s in two videos on this list (FIDLAR & The Decemberists). I would love for him to exclusively be a music video actor once his Ron Swanson role wraps up on NBC’s “Parks & Recreation”

You can also find this list on Spotify in its own separate playlist. Enjoy!

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: December 2014

Hipster Santa hipster music playlist December 2014It’s the last month of 2014 (that was weird to type). It was a pretty memorable year in music, but the only album to exceed one million albums sold was Taylor Swift’s new album (sorry music industry). It’s unfortunate because a ton of awesome music was released. People intake music in different ways, but mostly it’s via torrent.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content.

It gives me time to listen to new music while I research everything. I listened to hours of music while writing last month. I’m more than prepared for November’s Hipster Music Playlist.

hipster weird funny nerd nerdy Sweetbob's Hipster Music Playlist October 2014The first day of October is here and instead of writing my weekly college football and NFL picks against the spread post tonight, I took a break and decided to post this month’s Hipster Music Playlist.
