Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: FALL 2021

I used to do these music playlists every month, but real life stuff got in the way and then the virus bastard hit and killed the music industry for awhile. I needed to make a playlist for this season because it’s been long overdue.

I have headphones glued to my ears during football season. I’m writing about 10,000 words every week and I’m listening to music the entire time.

These tracks are all recent, other than a couple that I think flew under the radar and needs more attention.

I always keep an ear out for new music. I love discovering new bands/songs, it’s a habit from my days as a music journalist. Even though this is mostly a sports blog, I still add quite a bit of music and pop culture content. Keep sending me tracks via email or Twitter.

Sweetbob’s Punk Rock Christmas Music Playlist

I used to release a new music playlist every month, but the time it took to put together was just too crazy to keep up with during football season.

I would receive numerous emails from readers with suggestions (I appreciated every single one) and music label publicity departments signed me up for a regular diet of press release emails. I just spent way too much time putting them together. I may dabble by doing a few playlists in 2021, but the monthly lists are unfortunately in the past.

I decided to put together a list of songs from my own personal punk rock Christmas playlist from Spotify. You won’t find Mariah Carey or Burl Ives on this one, but I think you’ll enjoy it.

Have a great holiday season and stay safe.

The Best Alternatives To Cable For Watching Live Sports

So many people have a cable subscription that is costing way too much and they never really use it, especially as most of the best TV is on streaming services like Netflix these days. But they don’t cancel their subscription because they don’t want to miss out on sports. You get a lot of great sports packages on cable services and if you want to keep up with all of the games, you probably don’t want to cancel it. But cable isn’t the only way that you can watch sports these days and there are plenty of ways that you can still keep up without paying over the odds for it. These are some of the best alternatives to cable for watching live sports.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: June 2019

It’s been quite awhile since I compiled a good ole’ music playlist. I was just hammered during the football season and I’ve been focusing on a side gig I’ve been building up since the Winter. It’s going well, but I’ve really been meaning to make an indie music playlist this month.

This playlist was super easy to make as I have a ton of new stuff sitting in a few Spotify and YouTube playlists that I throw songs onto that I want to save. The playlist is definitely a banger this month.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: August 2018

I’ve been crazy busy lately and this upcoming month will be nuts! I have to do a lot of traveling and need to put up some NFL team previews and fantasy football content. It will be a crunch, but it will be done for you guys.

Why will I be traveling a lot? Well, my brother needs an LVAD heart pump surgery and it has to be done down in Indianapolis (a few hours away). He will be there for a few weeks and then I’ll be over at his house a lot to help in his recovery. He still has a long way to go in the long run since he needs a heart transplant, but this should help stabilize his heart while he is put on the transplant list. If you want to donate to my brother’s heart recovery, you can find it here…or feel free to email me for his address to send him a card.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: July 2018

July is the month of fireworks, cookouts and San Diego Comic-Con. I know the last one was a bit random, but I’m a nerd that looks forward to watching all the new movie trailers and upcoming toy releases.

Due to the heat and seasonal allergies, I’ve been stuck inside the last few days. It gave me time to really do a deep dive and find some great new music.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: June 2018

It’s nearly June and it’s starting to feel like it outside. It has been in the 90’s for nearly a week. I live in Indiana, so it’s pretty noteworthy.

A few years ago, I did a ‘cover song month’ during June. I had a lot of fun doing it, but a lot of work was put into it…and not a lot of sports (or anything else) was covered that month. I threw in a few cover songs on this month’s playlist to pay homage to past Junes.

Most musicians get their start by playing cover songs at live shows. Some venues won’t even book a musician if they don’t play some covers (and hopefully mix in some of their original music). I think it’s important to showcase a musician’s ability to adapt a popular song and make it their own.

The 25 Best Wrestling Entrance Theme Songs of All-time

Great entrance music can help make a superstar. The wrestler will need to back up the hype in the ring and on the microphone, but a great entrance song can go a long way.

Let’s use Bobby Roode as an example. He had a great career in TNA, but that promotion started to die off as Roode was finishing up there. There’s no doubt he would have received a good pop upon his first appearance, but his WWE entrance theme made him look like a damn superstar. It also shows the fans that they were putting ‘the machine’ behind the wrestler, so they will push them as far as they can go.

NXT has been the starting point of some of the songs on this list. I want to credit Triple H as he’s a fan of harder music and no doubt had the final say on the music. I am just thankful Vince doesn’t have his hands in NXT or every guy would be coming out to Flo Rida or Florida Georgia Line songs.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: May 2018

It’s almost May and we have only had maybe two days over 70 degrees. Spring has been pretty darn brutal. I have a feeling we will just leap into Summer weather soon. The only plus is that my seasonal allergies didn’t kick in until today. I will now be pumped full of Zyrtec until August.

There have been some great music released this Spring. I didn’t have any trouble finding 25 tracks to fill this month’s playlist.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: April 2018

I pumped out so much darn content last month with the NCAA Tournament and all the MLB team previews all falling about the same time. My headphones were glued to my head for most of the month while I was writing.

On top of all the content last month, I tackled the absolute last thing I wanted to do, SEO. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. I just want to ‘do what I do’ on the site, but I guess search engine optimization is a necessary evil when you run a site.

Sweetbob’s Hipster Music Playlist: March 2018

March is a huge month for the site. We pumped out a ton of fantasy baseball posts, MLB team previews and NCAA Tournament game picks. It’s nice to have fresh music to listen to while you’re cranking out tens of thousands of words this coming month.

New music is about to flood your ears as bands gear up for Spring releases/tours. Next month’s playlist should be quite easy to compile.

The 50 Best Hip-Hop Songs of All-Time

I don’t know why I decided to tackle such a huge music genre by doing a ‘best hip-hop songs of all-time’ post.

I planned on doing a top twenty, but it would cut off way too many records. Making the list was a lot of fun, but it took quite awhile to complete. I’m also opening myself up to comments critiquing my picks.

Please critique away, friends.

I didn’t know what exactly to name this post because ‘best’ doesn’t necessarily fit the parameters of this list. I would say this list is more of a ‘most influential’ or even ‘most iconic’ hip-hop songs of all-time. There are a few exclusions to the rule since there are some tracks on here that aren’t really influential or iconic, but are just damn great. I just went with ‘best’ to make it easy.
