2018 MLB Draft: All-Name Team

The 2018 MLB Amateur Draft took place this week. Over 1,200 young men were selected and a few of them could be all-time greats.

The Detroit Tigers started the draft off by selecting one of the best college pitchers in the draft, Casey Mize. Detroit desperately needs pitching now and Mize is expected to be fast-tracked through the minors as he was one of the most MLB-ready pitchers in this year’s draft pool. I expect Mize will be in the Majors by late-2019 or early-2020.

We love making all-name team lists for upcoming seasons and drafts, so covering the MLB Draft is a no-brainer. There is some solid names on this year’s list.

My name is Bobby Roberts, so I am often jealous of people with unique names. The most unique thing about my name is that I was not born ‘Robert Roberts’, Bobby is my given name. I don’t know too many grown men named Bobby.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – June 3rd

We are now nine weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

As temperatures rise, so do more baseballs. Power numbers really get cranked into overdrive in June and July. Don’t sleep on power hitters off to slow starts. J.D. Martinez and Josh Donaldson both didn’t get hot until this time last year.

There are a few teams recently changed closers and a few more could lose their jobs soon due to poor performance and/or trades. Who should you target on the waiver wire?

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe a couple young guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on June 3rd, 2018.

I’ll be posting a weekly fantasy baseball F/M/K every Sunday this baseball season…so keep coming back!

MLB – Think About the Playoffs

All 30 MLB teams enter the 2018 season with a fighting spirit of achieving end of season glory. Yet the ongoing arms race among the top teams dwindle the number of legitimate playoff contenders. Just a few number of fans will not like their team’s listed odds of triumphing in the Fall Classic in the MLB sports betting odds. When powerhouses like the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Indians appear as immovable obstacles, even a solid club with feasible playoff dreams becomes an overwhelming underdog.

Supporters of top-tier squads will also desire and wish for a higher championship probability, but no one team could cart away with favorable odds since winner must survive a grueling and unpredictable postseason hurdles.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – May 27th

We are now eight weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

Catcher was already very thin and we lost Welington Castillo to an 80-game PED suspension this week. Which catcher should you target? Is streaming catchers a better option?

There are a few teams that could look to change closers soon. The Phillies, Rays and Blue Jays all have questions at that position.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe a couple young guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on May 27th, 2018.

Welington Castillo Suspended 80 Games

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo was hit with an 80-game suspension after failing a drug test. He tested positive for Erythropoietin, more commonly known as EPO.

Castillo is the third player to fail a drug test in Major League Baseball this season. Minnesota Twins infielder Jorge Polanco failed for the steroid Stanozolol and multi-time All Star infielder Robinson Cano failed for Furosemide, a diuretic known to be used as a masking agent.

He is the first-ever MLB player to fail a drug test for EPO.

Erythropoietin was a common drug used to dope in cycling. Lance Armstong has admitted to using EPO at times during the Tour de France. It helps stimulate red blood cell production in your bone marrow. This drug is commonly prescribed to patients who are anemic or have hypoxemia due to chronic lung disease. It basically re-oxygenates your blood and gives you an edge in endurance races.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – May 13th

We are now six weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

Some impact players like Rougned Odor and Jonathan Schoop have been activated from the DL. You could be in a tricky spot since you may have a guy hitting really well that you picked up when those guys were first placed on the disabled list. A roster crunch could be an issue when activating those players.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on May 13th, 2018.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – May 6th

We are now five weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

It’s time to think about dropping some under-performing players, even if you drafted them in the middle rounds. At the same time, there are guys that you need to show a little more patience. It’s a tricky spot as you don’t want to drop a guy in a slump who goes onto have an All-Star year.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on May 6th, 2018.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – April 15th

We are just over two weeks into the 2018 baseball season.

You’re just starting to really get your lineup dialed in, but recent injuries probably threw a wrench into things. Middle infielders will start to be scarce on the waiver wire if they keep getting injured at this rate. Recent injuries to Rougned Odor, Jonathan Schoop and Elvis Andrus have left fantasy owners hurting for solid replacements.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on April 15th, 2018.

Sweetbob’s Fantasy Baseball F/M/K – April 8th

We are just a little over a week into the 2018 baseball season. You are still trying to figure out your lineup. If you’re a streaming-heavy guy, figuring out which guy you should drop to free up a streaming spot can be an issue.

We look at some players who started out hot, some who are struggling and maybe some guys who should be targeted in your free agent pool on April 8th, 2018.

I’ll be posting a weekly fantasy baseball F/M/K every Sunday this baseball season…so keep coming back!

Before I begin, let’s go over the F/M/K terminology. The guys that I list under “F*ck” are guys that are currently hot and you need to pick them up. “Marry”, are guys that you need to stick with the whole season, even if they are struggling a bit. “Kill”, are guys that need to be dropped for better players in the free agent pool.
