The U.S. elections are taking place and it might be easy to forget to set your lineup this week, especially if some of these races creep into Thursday.
The teams off this week are the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles.
You could be needing to replace some important pieces on your fantasy team with QB Baker Mayfield, QB Joe Burrow and the Los Angeles Rams defense on bye.
How will Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa fare in his second start?
Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of RB Tua Tagaovailoa of the Miami Dolphins.
I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.
START’EM
- QB Drew Lock (Denver Broncos) – Lock earned a lot of fans last week when he captained a second-half comeback win over the Chargers. He will be a trendy add due to the upside he showed last week. He faces a bad Atlanta pass defense this week, so he could match or improve on last week’s fantasy numbers. He would be my #1 waiver wire target if your quarterback is on bye (or if you need a replacement for Jimmy Garoppolo).
- WR Mike Williams (Los Angeles Chargers) – He’s not the most consistent fantasy wide receiver, but he has scored three touchdowns in his last three games. Chargers rookie QB Justin Herbert keeps getting more and more confident and will be throwing a lot. Williams should get 7+ targets against the Raiders. I think this game will be a bit of a shoot-out, so expect a lot of passing yards from both quarterbacks.
- TE Trey Burton (Indianapolis Colts) – He may not have had a lot of targets last week, but he was able to get a rushing touchdown. You’re not going to have a tight end on your roster that will score touchdowns in as many ways as Burton. The Colts aren’t afraid to throw some trickery at the Ravens. I think they’ll need to be creative in their offensive play-calling against a good Ravens defense.
- RB J.K. Dobbins (Baltimore Ravens) – I’m bullish on the Ravens right now (even though I picked them to lose against the Steelers last week). They are in the top-tier of teams in the AFC and I don’t see the Colts quite in the same pack as the Steelers, Chiefs and Ravens. Baltimore will need a strong running game and think they could have complete control in the second-half and we will see a lot of running backs Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Edwards could be a nice pickup if you’re in a pinch for a flex play.
- New York Giants Defense & Special Teams – The Giants are the best one-win team in the NFL. Their last four games have all been decided by a field goal or less. Their defense has improved since the first few games of the year. They will have an advantage over Washington’s offense on Sunday. They have been forcing turnovers at a nice rate as well.
- RB Zack Moss (Buffalo Bills) – I’ve been mentioning how Moss has been eating into RB Devin Singletary’s workload in Buffalo. Both had productive games last week, but Moss was the back who they went to within scoring distance. The Bills face the Seahawks this week and Moss should have plenty of work against Seattle’s below average defense.
- WR Corey Davis (Tennessee Titans) – Teams are loading the box for RB Derrick Henry more and more, so Davis is seeing more targets. He is turning into a very solid fantasy wide receiver. I’d like for him to get in the end zone more. He could have a few opportunities against the Chicago secondary.
- TE Robert Tonyan (Green Bay Packers) – Tonyan has turned into a consistent red zone target for Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. He hasn’t scored a touchdown in a couple games, but he has seen his overall targets increased since the start of the year. He is someone to watch on Thursday against the Niners.
- WR Randall Cobb (Houston Texans) – The Texans might be punting the season after their rough start, but Cobb is seeing a lot of targets. He is getting some chemistry with QB Deshaun Watson. He is coming off an eight-catch game against the Packers. He will have a nice match-up against a one-the-ropes Jacksonville team.
- RB Damien Harris (New England Patriots) – The Patriots are struggling right now. They aren’t getting anything from QB Cam Newton, but Harris has been a nice surprise. He faces the Jets, who traded away a few pieces on defense the last couple weeks. They appear to have mailed it in, so the Patriots could have control of this game in the second-half and could just feed Harris in garbage time.
- Pittsburgh Steelers Defense & Special Teams – The Steelers will face a Cowboys quarterback (currently undetermined) who was signed within the last two weeks. It was reported that they were going to bench QB Ben Dinucci and will start either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert. The Steelers also added LB Avery Williamson from the Jets at the trade deadline. The Cowboys will be in for a long, long Sunday afternoon.
- QB Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) – This is more of a deep league start. If you have Baker Mayfield, Joe Burrow or Carson Wentz (who are all on bye) and need someone to plug in, I think Tagovailoa could have a solid game against the Cardinals. He didn’t have a ton of work in last week’s win over the Rams, but he could be a safe deep league start. He’s not going to be risky and the odds of earning negative points aren’t as high as Jacksonville’s Jake Luton or whomever the Dallas Cowboys start at quarterback.
SIT’EM
- RB Melvin Gordon (Denver Broncos) – It appears that Gordon is losing playing time to Phillip Lindsay. The Broncos realized that Lindsay is doing the most with his touches and it’s a wise choice to give Lindsay more attention. Gordon would be a borderline flex play this week.
- QB Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) – The Ravens could get out to a decent lead and Jackson won’t need to throw the ball. I expect a lot from running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards against the Colts.
- WR Michael Gallup (Dallas Cowboys) – As I mentioned earlier, the Cowboys are set to start either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert at quarterback. I don’t expect enough passing attempts to make Gallup or even TE Dalton Schultz worth playing in fantasy anytime soon.
- RB Le’Veon Bell (Kansas City Chiefs) – Bell just isn’t a regular part of the Chiefs offense. He’s probably the third-best running back on the team and I don’t get why he’s still owned, even in deep leagues, at this point.
- QB Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) – Brees isn’t racking up the kind of yards and touchdowns to be an every week starter in fantasy. He has a bad matchup this week against Tampa Bay. The Bucs pass defense has improved after a few rough games to open the year. I would shy away from starting Brees this week.
- WR Scotty Miller (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – The Bucs recently activated WR Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin is healthy again. Miller’s role is getting smaller in Tampa Bay. He could soon fall into the waiver wire abyss, where he may stay for the remainder of the year.
- TE Jack Doyle & Mo Alie-Cox (Indianapolis Colts) – As I mentioned earlier, Colts TE Trey Burton is the tight end you want in Indy. He’s playing more snaps, doing more with his targets and he was even used in a gimmick plays. Doyle did find the end zone last week, but I don’t see him as a consistent fantasy tight end.
- Buffalo Bills Defense & Special Teams – The Bills have a solid defense, but they face the Seahawks this weekend. Seattle has been able to score against just about every team, so I would pick another defense to stream this week.
- WR DJ Chark (Jacksonville Jaguars) – Jacksonville QB Gardner Minshew is expected to miss a few weeks with a thumb injury. Rookie QB Jake Luton will start and I’m not expecting a ton of passing attempts from him. Chark will also be covered by Texans CB Bradley Roby.
- RB D’Andre Swift (Detriot Lions) – Swift had one great game against Jacksonville, but has fell on his face in back-to-back games. He only managed a single yard on six attempts last week against the Colts. He faces the Vikings this week, not a great defense, but the Lions backfield is a bit crowded right now. I’d rather add Buffalo RB Zack Moss or Denver RB Phillip Lindsay.
