I went 5-3 last week with my picks against the spread and over/under point totals during Wild Card Weekend.
The Wild Card games were fun to watch last week. There were two that went into overtime and the other two games didn’t lack suspense with a pair of upsets.
Will the home teams start the game a little rusty after a week off or will the rest be a big factor in the game?
Will the Titans try to choke the game clock again this week in hopes of keeping Ravens QB Lamar Jackson off the field?
We pick every NFL Divisional Round playoff game against the spread and over/under.
Since there are only four games this weekend, as a bonus I will also pick the over/under for each game.
Minnesota Vikings at San Francisco 49ers (-7) – over/under (44.5) – My pick is San Francisco 49ers and OVER
The Vikings came out of last week’s playoff game with a win by the slimmest of margins. The game was forced into overtime, but they held on for the win thanks to a Kyle Rudolph touchdown. They will have a tougher match-up this week as they travel to the West Coast to face the Niners. The Niners have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but they’ve allowed a lot of points at home and the Vikings are also a good offensive road team. It could be closer than some people think, but I think the Niners will increase their lead late and get over the point spread. I think we are in for a 44.5+ point total over in this one.
Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens (-10) – over/under (47) – My pick is Tennessee Titans and UNDER
The Titans put all their chips on the table and attempted to choke the clock with their run game against the Patriots. It was a huge success and the Titans upset the Patriots in Foxborough. They had RB Derrick Henry run the ball 34 times and he gained 182 yards. QB Ryan Tannehill only attempted 15 passes and threw for just 72 yards. I assume they will attempt a similar gameplan against the Ravens high-tempo offense. The Niners tried this last month when they handed the ball to RB Raheem Mostert a ton, but they still lost by a field goal. Even though the Niners’ attempt failed, it will be wise for the Titans to try it. They can keep this close and the point total will be lower than 47 points. I’m taking the points and the under.
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs (-10) – over/under (51) – My pick is Houston Texans and UNDER
The Texans were the other team to survive an overtime playoff game. The Bills seemed to have the game in control, but Buffalo QB Josh Allen played one of the worst fourth quarters in recent playoff history. The Texans were able to hang on and kicked a field goal in OT to win the game. The Texans and Chiefs met back in October and Houston won the game 31-24. Houston is a good road team and they tend to keep games close away from home. The Chiefs could have a tough time stopping WR DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday. He could be the reason they keep this game within double-digits. The Chiefs may win the game outright, but I think Houston will be a tough out in a average scoring game. I don’t see the teams combining for more than 51 points.
Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers (-4) – over/under (47) – My pick is Green Bay Packers and UNDER
The Seahawks survived against the Eagles last week. The team got a lot of flack for DE Jadeveon Clowney’s late-ish hit on Eagles QB Carson Wentz that knocked the QB out of the game. The Seahawks needed every advantage they could get as without an above average running back, their offense looked bad. They need a healthy running game and I don’t see the newly-signed running backs doing much damage against the Packers. Seattle will need QB Russell Wilson to put the team on his shoulders against a defense that will know they can’t run the ball well. The Packers should cover in this game, but I don’t see them hitting the over in combined points, so I’m taking the under.
