2019 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 16

Matt Ryan dottedDid you make the Super Bowl in your fantasy playoffs?

You are definitely one lucky guy if you made it to the championship game this season. There have been so many backup QBs and just oddball injuries to star fantasy players.

It’s always fun to go back to your fantasy draft this time of the year and look to see where certain players were drafted. There’s a chance that three or four players on your roster weren’t even drafted at all. It’s definitely been an odd year, but it’s been fun.

Can the Cleveland Browns stop QB Lamar Jackson or will his fantasy owners cruise to a championship?

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 16 of the 2019 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) – Matt Ryan played much better with WR Julio Jones back last week. He faces the Jags this week and he’s expected to have a solid fantasy week. Jacksonville has some talent on defense, but they’ve let some good quarterbacks torch them the last-half of the season.
  • WR Breshad Perriman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – The Bucs had a few pass catchers step up in WR Mike Evans absence, but none more than Perriman. It was actually the first time in his entire NFL career that he looked like a potential stud. He’s a big target and he’s going to get plenty of targets again on Saturday.
  • RB Adrian Peterson (Washington Redskins) – Peterson will continue to get all the carries again this week with Guice officially landing on IR. He has a good match-up against the Giants, who have given up some big games to opposing running backs this season.
  • QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Miami Dolphins) – I don’t usually recommend starting Fitzpatrick, but he faces the Bengals this weekend. It’s a good match-up and he’s been better in fantasy than you would think. He’s actually been a solid streaming candidate the last handful of weeks.
  • Buffalo Bills Defense & Special Teams – Buffalo faces New England this Saturday and it’s a solid match-up for the young defense. The Patriots had a great offensive day last week, but I don’t see it carrying over against Buffalo. The Bills have a good defense and could force a couple turnovers. I don’t expect the Patriots to score a ton of points.
  • RB Boston Scott (Philadelphia Eagles)Eagles RB Miles Sanders and Scott were a nice 1-2 combo against the Redskins. They bought caught a lot of passes and Sanders handled most of the carries, but Scott still had a handful. I expect the Eagles will continue a short passing game and they will continue to run the ball (as long as it still works).
  • WR Anthony Miller (Chicago Bears) – Miller is one of the reasons why QB Mitchell Trubisky bounced back from his rough start to the season. Miller has a high usage rate and Trubisky looks for Miller often. The Chiefs can be thrown on and Miller will get plenty of targets.
  • TE Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins) – Gesicki has earned his paycheck against bad teams this season. He has had his best games against teams with losing records. He faces the Bengals this week and I expect another solid performance from Mike G.
  • TE O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – The Bucs wide receivers are falling like flies and now that they may have lost WR Chris Godwin, I expect Bucs QB Jameis Winston to start looking more for Howard. He hasn’t played a large role this season, but that could change this week.
  • WR A.J. Brown (Tennessee Titans) – Brown continued his strong rookie campaign last week. He is clearly Titans QB Ryan Tannehill’s #1 target and he will get plenty of targets against the Saints.
  • Denver Broncos Defense & Special Teams – The Broncos face the Lions this weekend…and to say that the Lions offense is banged up would be an understatement. The Lions are basically running out their third-stringers on offense. The Broncos defense could do some damage.
  • RB Chris Carson (Seattle Seahawks) – Carson was very good last weekend and now he faces a weak Cardinals defense. He’s in a similar position as Adrian Peterson as he used to split his carries, but his teammate went down with a knee injury. Carson has a good match-up this week and should fare very well against Arizona.

SIT’EM

  • RB Kenyan Drake (Arizona Cardinals) – Drake ran for four rushing touchdowns last week, but don’t expect anywhere near that kind of production against the Seahawks. Drake was a below average for the previous five games before his career-game last week. I wouldn’t bet the farm on Drake as the Seahawks are a bad match-up for him.
  • WR Darius Slayton (New York Giants) – Slayton failed to be a fantasy stud last week. It was the first time since Week 9 that he wasn’t worth starting. It’s clear that if WR Sterling Shepard is healthy, Slayton may only be worth a start in deep leagues.
  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers) – Jimmy G didn’t struggle in his last game against the Rams, but he wasn’t fantasy-relevant. The Niners relied on a short passing game and used their running game to beat the Rams 20-7. I don’t expect a great fantasy output in this game either. The Niners will probably use a similar gameplan this time around.
  • RBs Benny Snell & Jaylen Samuels (Pittsburgh Steelers) – The return of RB James Conner straight up zapped the fantasy value of both Pittsburgh backup running backs. QB Duck Hodges didn’t help the situation by turning the ball over so much last week either. I’d try to add another running back to use as a flex in place of either of these guys.
  • QB Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns) – I know Mayfield threw for over 300 yards in his last meeting against the Ravens, but I’d think twice about starting him against Baltimore. It’s just not a smart move, especially in your fantasy playoffs.
  • RB Tevin Coleman (San Francisco 49ers) – Coleman has lost nearly his carries to RB Raheem Mostert. He’s barely getting into the game and I don’t understand why he’s still owned in so many leagues. I guess if something were to happen to Mostert, his carries could jump, but Coleman appears to be the third-string running back right now behind Mostert and Matt Breida.
  • WR Marcus Johnson (Indianapolis Colts) – Johnson saw his targets sink due to the return of WR T.Y. Hilton. Unless the Colts end up sitting Hilton for the remainder of the year, Johnson’s fantasy value is near zero.
  • TE Jimmy Graham (Green Bay Packers) – Graham had a nice couple week run mid-season, but he really hasn’t been fantasy-relevant since. He’s basically just a touchdown-dependent tight end that are a dime a dozen. I’d add a tight end that garners more than two or three targets per game.
  • San Francisco 49ers Defense & Special Teams – I know the Niners defense has been a very good fantasy defense, but the Rams offense has gotten better over the last couple weeks. The arm of QB Jared Goff has awakened and is going back to his bed & butter by hitting WR Robert Woods more. It’s just not a great match-up for the Niners defense. I don’t see them flourishing on Saturday.
