Now that we are in the fantasy playoffs, consistency is key. You can’t go in there with a dud quarterback or a tight end that just doesn’t get enough targets.
There are plenty of players out there that are owned in way too many leagues. They are being outperformed by players with almost single-digit ownership. It’s time to cut bait with those players and pick up a player with more playing time.
Did you make the playoffs in your fantasy league?
Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 14 of the 2019 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of QB Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings.
I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.
START’EM
- QB Devlin Hodges (Pittsburgh Steelers) – I wouldn’t normally suggest picking up a quarterback that is bouncing from starter to bench and back to starter…but Hodges faces the Cardinals this week. They’ve really made some average quarterbacks look like Peyton Manning nearly every Sunday. This could also be the week that WR JuJu Smith-Schuster finally pops off as well.
- WR Darius Slayton (New York Giants) – I’ve listed Slayton here for a few weeks in a row and he keeps being clutch. The best Giants pass catchers are all injured and Slayton is making the most of this opportunity. He’s going to be near the top on his team in targets and should do well against Philly.
- RB Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings) – RB Dalvin Cook is banged up and even if he plays, I doubt he will get a full load. Mattison has been a popular running back handcuff this year and it’s time that he pays off your patience.
- QB Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings) – The last time Cousins faced the Lions (Week 7), he threw for four touchdowns and 338 passing yards. The Lions are even worst than they were then and given Cook’s injury issue, Cousins could pass more than usual. Mattison has good hands and may have a lot of success with short passes.
- Cleveland Browns Defense & Special Teams – Cleveland play at home against Cincinnati, who just got their first win of the season last week. Even though the Browns will be without DE Myles Garrett for the rest of the year, they still have some playmakers on defense. I don’t see the Bengals having a great game on Sunday.
- RB Darwin Thompson (Kansas City Chiefs) – Many NFL teams have injury issues in the backfield. The Chiefs have maybe the most injuries with both Williams running backs dealing with ribs and hamstring injuries and LeSean McCoy is nursing soft tissue ailments that will see him take a backseat to Thompson. He should get some redzone work against New England.
- WR Anthony Miller (Chicago Bears) – Miller is one of the reasons why QB Mitchell Trubisky appears to be back on track. Trubisky is looking for Miller and he has 9+ targets in three-straight weeks. I don’t see the Bears changing their gameplan as its working, so expect Miller to keep getting plenty of targets.
- TE Vance McDonald (Pittsburgh Steelers) – The Cardinals are the worst against opposing tight ends. Nearly every tight end they’ve faced has had a season-best fantasy total. McDonald has been a bit of a bust since he was drafted among the top-ten tight ends, but has struggled with Big Ben sidelined. This could be the week it pays off to have McDonald in your lineup.
- TE Jack Doyle (Indianapolis Colts) – With Eric Ebron on IR, Doyle is getting all the tight end targets. I don’t see TE Mo Allie-Cox eating into it at all. Tampa Bay has allowed some big passing games this season, so I expect Doyle to be a big part in the Colts offense on Sunday.
- TE Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins) – Gesicki is becoming a leading target in the QB Ryan Fitzpatrick-led Dolphins offense. He has at least six targts in five-straight games and has scored touchdowns in back-to-back games. He’s a big target that will be in the game for most of the time since he is a solid blocker as well. The last time he faced the Jets, he caught all six of his targets for 95 yards.
- Tennessee Titans Defense & Special Teams – The Titans are trending upward and the Raiders are in a free-fall. The Titans offense have been clicking since installing QB Ryan Tannehill as their starter and their defense is underrated. The Raiders offense has been stopped by the Jets and Chiefs in back-to-back weeks. I would rank the Titans defense above both of those teams.
- RB Rashaad Penny (Seattle Seahawks) – It’s clear that Penny is biting into Chris Carson’s workload. Carson is still getting a ton of work, but Penny is doing more with his touches. Seattle has turned into a team that both of the top running backs should be owned in fantasy.
- WR Terry McLaurin (Washington Redskins) – McLaurin had a rough game last week, but he should fare much better against the Packers secondary. I wouldn’t bail on him after last week. I think he gets back on track on Sunday.
SIT’EM
- RB Jonathan Williams (Indianapolis Colts) – The Colts are clearly just riding a hot hand at running back with Marlon Mack out with a broken hand. They used Williams for two weeks, but against the Titans last week, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins were having more success with their touches. The Bucs defense is prone to a short passing game and I’d rather have Hines in that role than Williams.
- WR Josh Gordon (Seattle Seahawks) – People have been holding onto Gordon in hopes of a breakout game, but he has only caught one pass in back-to-back games. He’s owned in 47.5% of leagues and should be dropped. Sure, he’s was a great wide receiver and could maybe pop off at any point, but he’s been years since we saw anything great from Gordon.
- QB Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Winston has thrown 20 interceptions this year. He didn’t throw one last week, but he didn’t throw a touchdown either. He has another tough match-up this week against the Colts. Indy defense had a couple rough games a few weeks into the season due to injuries in the secondary, but they are a solid pass defense.
- RB Royce Freeman (Denver Broncos) – Freeman is another running back that is owned in too many leagues. He is owned in over 60% of leagues and he just doesn’t get enough carries to warrant a roster spot. He doesn’t even do much with the little carries he gets. I’d rather take a flyer on Alexander Mattison or Benny Snell than have Freeman on my team.
- QB Derek Carr (Oakland Raiders) – I mentioned earlier that the Raiders are in a free-fall. Carr has only thrown three touchdowns combined in his last four starts. You should drop him and add an extra WR or RB for depth. My guess is that if you own Carr, he would be your backup QB. If he is your usual starter, you shouldn’t start him this week against the Titans.
- WR Robby Anderson (New York Jets) – Anderson has had back-to-back weeks of fantasy relevance, but I think it will end this week. Miami shut him down in their last meeting and the Dolphins secondary has been much better of late. I’d drop Anderson and pick up Zach Pascal or Darius Slayton.
- TE O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Howard is owned in nearly 40% of leagues….and it annoys the hell out of me. He has been horrible and I don’t get why people don’t just add Jack Doyle or Ryan Griffin instead of keeping Howard on your team.
- Philadelphia Eagles Defense & Special Teams – Last week, the Eagles defense was destroyed by the Dolphins. They face the Giants this week and I don’t like this match-up. I know the Giants lack some playmakers on offense due to injury, but I just don’t see the Eagles defense really having a huge advantage.
- QB Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams) – Goff has been pretty bad this season, but had his best game of the season against Arizona’s bad pass defense. He faces the Seahawks this week, and even though he threw for nearly 400 yards in his game against Seattle, he was unable to convert third downs and had to settle for field goals. He only threw for one touchdown in that game. He may rack up 300 yards yard on Sunday night, but I don’t see him getting into the endzone much.
- RB Tarik Cohen (Chicago Bears) – It’s clear that rookie David Montgomery is the lead running back in Chicago. Cohen still get some playing time on passing downs, but he isn’t doing as much with those opportunities. I’d rather start Derrius Guice or Rashaad Penny than Cohen the rest of the season.
