2019 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 6

Jordan Howard dottedThis is the first week of the 2019 NFL season that four teams on a bye.

The Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and the Oakland Raiders are off this week. Those four teams aren’t exactly stocked with huge fantasy studs, but there are enough players off this week that could alter your lineup.

Now that we have a good chunk of games under our belt, there’s more and more information out there to help you make better, more informed decisions to build your lineups.

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of RB Jordan Howard of the Philadelphia Eagles.

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) – The Cardinals and Falcons both have questionable pass defenses. I expect the game to be a shootout and should be a back-and-forth contest with a lot of totals from each quarterback. Arizona will have issues with WR Julio Jones and TE Austin Hooper. Ryan should have good overall fantasy numbers this week.
  • WR Michael Gallup (Dallas Cowboys) – Gallup caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdowns against the Packers last week. He’s expected to see plenty of targets this week against a weak Jets secondary. He’s only owned in about 70% of leagues, so he could be available in yours right now.
  • RB Jordan Howard (Philadelphia Eagles) – Howard is the running back in Philly that you want. He will not be a running back that will get PPR points due to him not being a good pass catcher, but he gets all the touches in the red zone. He has scored four touchdowns the last three games. The Vikings are a tough team to throw on, so I expect the Eagles to try to move the ball more on the ground.
  • QB Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals) – As I mentioned earlier, the Cardinals/Falcons game should be a shootout. Both teams struggle in pass defense and I expect both quarterbacks to have good fantasy weeks. Murray can also add some yards with his legs, which he is doing more and more as he gets comfortable in the NFL.
  • Los Angeles Chargers Defense & Special Teams – The Chargers face the Steelers this week, who should be starting QB Devlin Hodges. I highly doubt QB Mason Rudolph will be cleared this week after being knocked out cold in last week’s game against the Ravens. The Chargers should be able to limit the wounded Steelers offense.
  • RB Chris Carson (Seattle Seahawks) – Seattle faces Cleveland this weekend. The Niners choked the clock against the Browns on Monday Night Football. They ran the ball down the Browns’ throats and nearly had a 2 to 1 time of possession advantage. I expect the Seahawks to borrow a little of the Niners playbook against the Browns. Seattle could even use RB Rashaad Penny a little more than usual in this game. Carson might be the safest pick in fantasy this week.
  • WR Tyler Boyd (Cincinnati Bengals) – Boyd is a target machine with WRs A.J. Green and John Ross out. He has been racking up double-digit targets in all but one game. He finally caught his first touchdown pass last week against Arizona. He should see double-digit targets against the Ravens this weekend.
  • TE Gerald Everett (Los Angeles Rams) – Everett is barely owned in any leagues, but he’s been one of the best tight ends in fantasy the last two weeks. He will most likely top the ‘most added’ charts this week thanks to his seven catches – 136 yards performance against Seattle last week. I expect the Rams to keep Everett busy this weekend against the Niners.
  • TE Chris Herndon (New York Jets) – Herndon was suspended for the first four games of the season and will suit up for his first game of the year. His fantasy stock will increase if QB Sam Darnold’s mono clears up by Sunday (and it looks like Darnold will be the starter this week).
  • Denver Broncos Defense & Special Teams – The Broncos face off against the Titans this week. Tennessee’s offense is a bit hot and cold and Denver’s defense has held their own most weeks this season. Their defense is benefiting from their run-first offense. It’s chewing up the clock and allowing their defense to rest for long stretches during games.
  • RB Kerryon Johnson (Detroit Lions) – Johnson is coming off his best game of the year in the Lions 34-30 loss to the Chiefs. He was off last week due to bye, so he comes into his game against the Packers rested with his confidence up.
  • WR Preston Williams (Miami Dolphins) [DEEP LEAGUE SLEEPER] Williams might be the only Dolphins player worth a look in fantasy right now. He leads the team in receptions and yards, but he isn’t going to score many touchdowns. Miami is a really bad team, but they could move the ball a little against a deflated Redskins squad who just saw their head coach get fired.

SIT’EM

  • RB David Johnson (Arizona Cardinals) Johnson tweaked his back in last week’s win against the Bengals. He’s currently listed as day-to-day and the injury is bad enough to get the head coach to comment on it this week. There’s a chance that he could miss the game and RB Chase Edmonds could see increased action. Johnson is a risky play right now, but his status could clear up by Sunday morning.
  • WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Pittsburgh Steelers) – JuJu’s fantasy stock has taken a hit since he was taken very early in drafts. He’s getting a lot of double-teams and his quarterbacks have been bad. I don’t have high hopes for him with Devlin in at QB against the Chargers.
  • QB Carson Wentz (Philadelphia Eagles) – I like RB Jordan Howard this week, but I don’t have much confidence in Wentz against the Vikings secondary. If the Eagles feed Howard (and RB Miles Sanders), Wentz may not be need to do a lot. I don’t think he will be very efficient against the secondary if he passes more than 25 times.
  • RB Matt Breida (San Francisco 49ers) – If you take away Breida’s 83- yard run against the Browns on Monday, he had 10 carries for 31 yards. Overall, RB Tevin Coleman was far more efficient. They face the Rams this week, which means RB Aaron Donald will waiting for both of them at the line of scrimmage. The Niners won’t be able to rush the ball 27 times this week, because they won’t be getting five or six yards per attempt. I don’t expect Breida to get the enough touches to be useful in fantasy this week.
  • WR Phillip Dorsett (New England Patriots) – A ton of people added Dorsett two weeks ago thinking he would take over Antonio Brown’s role in New England…that shit didn’t happen at all. He missed last week’s game due to a hamstring injury and as of Tuesday, he still hasn’t participated in practice for a Thursday night game against the Giants. It doesn’t look likely that he will play.
  • RB Darrell Henderson (Los Angeles Rams) – Henderson is still owned in over 20% of all leagues…and he only has one carry way back in Week 1. The Rams have Henderson on the shelf as an insurance plan in case RB Todd Gurley breaks down by the end of the season. I don’t see the Rams using him much unless they absolutely need him. Drop him and pick up Darrel Williams or Jordan Howard.
  • TE O.J. Howard (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Howard used to be a go-to pass catcher for QB Jameis Winston. It’s a bit backwards as now that Winston’s numbers improve, Howard appears to be completely out of the gameplan. He’s barely getting a look and it’s not like TE Cameron Brate is getting the tight end targets, tight ends aren’t a priority in OC Byron Leftwich’s offense.
  • Washington Redskins Defense & Special Teams – It’s usually a no-brainer to start a defense against the Miami Dolphins. The Redskins defense hasn’t looked strong all season. This might be the most winnable game on the Dolphins schedule, as they are only 3.5 point underdogs. There are better fantasy defenses to stream this week.
  • QB Daniel Jones (New York Giants) – I don’t have faith in a rookie quarterback against the Patriots on a short week. He struggled last week against the Vikings last week and I don’t see him faring much better against the Patriots with only a few days to prepare.
  • WR Robby Anderson (New York Jets) – I’ve listed Anderson in this section plenty times over the last two years. He’s a boom-or-bust receiver and now that it looks like QB Sam Danold is ready this week, more people are adding Anderson. I don’t see him catching many deep balls against the Cowboys secondary.
