Super Bowl 53 – Betting Picks Against Spread & Prop Bets

I LOVE prop bets. I actually get more joy out of betting Super Bowl prop bets than betting against the spread. Yes, most are a crap shoot, but with the right research, you can end up winning bets with very favorable odds.

I’m not saying you can research who will win the coin toss, but there are many other player and team prop bets out there that have nice odds.

Some prop bets aren’t worth the money (the vig isn’t worth the slight risk), but sometimes you just have to lay a few bucks down, cross your fingers and wish for the best.

I picked out some of the most popular (and the most absurd) prop bets for Super Bowl 53 (or Super Bowl LIII for Roman numeral fans)…and we also pick the game against the spread.

Let me know if you’re betting any of these props. Good luck!

How Long Will Gladys Night’s National Anthem Last?

Over 109.5 Seconds (-150)
Under 109.5 Seconds (+110)

This is probably the shortest over/under for the national anthem in recent memory. Most are 120+ seconds or more, so this one is expected to be short. Knight may not have the vocals like she used to, but I still think she’s going to flex them a bit on Sunday, so I’m taking the over.

Prediction: OVER

What any scoring drive take less time than the National Anthem?

Yes – -160
No – +120

This is a new prop that I’ve never saw before. Both teams have the ability to score in a hurry. I’m going to say YES, just because it doesn’t specify a touchdown. A team could make a quick drive for a field goal at the end of a half.

Prediction: YES

What Color Gatorade Will be Dumped on the Winning Head Coach?

No Liquid Bath (+140)
Clear/Water (+225)
Yellow/Green/Lime (+325)
Orange (+450)
Blue (+500)
Red (+600)
Purple (+800)

There are two new options on the board as ‘No Liquid Bath’ and ‘Purple’ make their first appearances. I like that they batched Yellow and Green together this year. I’m going with them this year.

Prediction: YELLOW/GREEN

Coin Toss?

Heads (-102)
Tails (-102)

I’m usually a Heads guy, but I took tails last year. I’m going back to my old ways and sticking with heads.

Prediction: HEADS

Whose Age Will be Closer to Total Points in Game?

Bill Belichick (66 years old) (-360)
Sean McVay (33 years old) (+240)

This is another new one, mostly due to the wide age difference in head coaches. If you pick McVay here, you’re saying that the game’s over/under will be under 49. I think it will be over that, so I have to go with Belichick.

Prediction: Bill Belichick (66 years old)

Total Tweets by @RealDonaldTrump on Super Bowl Sunday?

OVER 5.5 (-120)
UNDER 5.5 (-120)

I picked the over on this prop last year, but he under-performed. He has an interview that day, so I don’t think he will need to tweet much. He will tweet at least four times, but I don’t see him pushing it to six, since it doesn’t include retweets.

Prediction: UNDER

Who Will the Super Bowl MVP Thank First?

Teammates (+160)
God (+175)
Family (+350)
Does Not Thank Anyone (+450)
Coach (+650)
Fans/City (+800)
Owner (+850)
Referees (+5000)

I don’t want to tip my hand here with my game pick, but I’m going with God. A certain team’s quarterback has been pretty open about his religion. If he wins the MVP, I think he’ll thank God first.

Prediction: God

Super Bowl LIII MVP Odds

Tom Brady (Even)
Jared Goff (+250)
Todd Gurley (+800)
Sony Michel (+1500)
Aaron Donald (+1800)
CJ Anderson (+2000)
James White (+2000)
Julian Edelman (+2000)
Rob Grokowski (+3000)
Brandin Cooks (+4000)
Robert Woods (+4000)
Stephen Gostkowski (+6000)
Greg Zuerlein (+8500)
Rex Burkhead (+8500)
Aqib Talib (+10000)
Chris Hogan (+10000)
Cory Littleton (+10000)
Dante Fowler Jr. (+10000)
Josh Reynolds (+10000)
Kyle Van Noy (+10000)
Marcus Peters (+10000)
Trey Flowers (+10000)
Ndamukong Suh (+12500)
Cordarelle Patterson (+15000)
Donta Hightower (+15000)
Gerald Everett (+15000)
John Johnson (+15000)
Michael Brookers (+15000)
Stephon Gilmore (+15000)
Devin McCourty (+25000)
Elandon Roberts (+25000)
Lamarcus Joyner (+25000)
Mark Barron (+25000)
Patrick Chung (+25000)
Phillip Dorsett (+25000)
Tyler Higbee (+25000)
James Develin (+50000)
Matthew Slater (+50000)

There aren’t as many real MVP options as there were last year. The Eagles had so many potential MVPs due to them having a backup QB starting the game. They could have leaned on other players more, but this year it’s basically the quarterbacks or a young running back. I’m going with Goff in what could be a true superstar-maker if he outplays Brady to win the game.

Prediction: Jared Goff

Super Bowl LIII First Touchdown Scorer

Sony Michel (+650)
Todd Gurley (+700)
Julian Edelman (+850)
Brandin Cooks (+1000)
CJ Anderson (+1000)
Robert Woods (+1000)
James White (+1200)
Rob Gronkowski (+1200)
Rex Burkhead (+1500
Josh Reynolds (+1600)
Chris Hogan (+1900)
Phillip Dorsett (+2000)
Patriots Defense (+2200)
Gerald Everett (+2500)
Rams Defense (+2800)
Cordarelle Patterson (+3500)
Tyler Higbee (+3500)
James Develin (+4000)
Dwayne Allen (+5000)
Jared Goff (+5000)
John Kelly (+5000)
JoJo Natson (+5000)
KhaDarel Hodge (+5000)
Tom Brady (+5000)
No Touchdown (+25000)

The reward isn’t there for the top few options, so I’m going to go with some longer odds. Rob Gronkowski at 12 to 1 odds is great. Also, the 16 to 1 odds for Rams WR Josh Reynolds is tempting as well. I’d lay money on both guys since the payoff is so nice.

Prediction: Rob Gronkowski or Josh Reynolds

Who Will Have More?

Steph Curry’s points on Feb. 2nd in Warriors/Lakers Game (+1.5)
New England Patriots Points in Super Bowl 53 (-1.5)

This is a nice sports cross-over prop bet. Curry will be looking to show the Lakers that they are still the team to beat in the West. I also like the Rams defense more than most people.

Prediction: Steph Curry’s Point Total +1.5

Total Points – Over/Under

– OVER 56.5 (-110)
– UNDER 56.5 (-110)

This should be closer to the over/under. I don’t think the Patriots will put up a ton of points against the Rams defense. I also don’t think the Rams will run away with the game either.

Prediction: UNDER

Point Spread

– New England Patriots (-2.5)
– Los Angeles Rams (+2.5)

Full disclosure, I’m not a fan of the New England Patriots. It hasn’t stopped me from betting on them in some Super Bowls though. I’ve just gritted my teeth and pushed the button to confirm my bets. I just don’t see the reason why the Patriots are the favorites in this game. They are playing better than they have all season, but the Rams are right there with them. It will truly be a battle between youth and experience, across the board. The Rams have a few more playmakers on both sides of the ball to lose this game. I’m taking the points and I may put a few jellybeans on the moneyline of +120).

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams (+2.5)
