2018 NFL Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 12

This is the last week of bye weeks and there are only two teams sitting out, but they are two huge teams in fantasy, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams.

There’s a chance there you could be in the need for a lot on your team. The Chiefs and Saints are loaded with fantasy studs and you could be hurting this week.

There are some good match-ups on Thanksgiving that could benefit your fantasy team. Are there any players on the Falcons worth picking up?

Here is our Fantasy Football Sit/Start for Week 12 of the 2018 NFL season…and enjoy our awesome MS Paint masterpiece of Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers

I want to explain what I mean by “sit” and “start.” Of course you are going to start some of the guys i say to bench this week, because you probably used high draft picks or a lot of money in an auction for them. My ‘sit’ players are guys I am just not completely sold that they will have good weeks. If you have a guy that you are on the fence about, maybe this will help you pick between the players.

START’EM

  • QB Philip Rivers (Los Angeles Chargers) – If you own a quarterback on bye, you may need a big performer to make up for the production of Jared Goff or Patrick Mahomes. I think Rivers could be the best of the quarterback that could be available on the waiver wire. The Chargers have a good offense and I like his match-up against the Cardinals. He could be in line for a big fantasy game.
  • WR Keke Coutee (Houston Texans) – Coutee has chemistry with QB Deshaun Watson and he led the team in targets in their last game. A lot of people jumped on WR Demaryius Thomas when he was traded to Houston, but Coutee is the guy you want. He is the guy who will get injured WR Will Fuller’s targets.
  • RB Gus Edwards (Baltimore Ravens) – Edwards came out of nowhere last week. He played the most snaps and really made the most out of his snaps. The Ravens face the Raiders this week and Oakland has allowed opposing running backs to do a lot of damage. Edwards doesn’t have a firm grip on the playing-time advantage at running back, but Baltimore has been waiting for one of their running backs to run away with the job…and it could be Edwards.
  • QB Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Winston relieved a struggling QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in their loss against the Giants. He did well and played well enough to get some of the ‘stink’ off him. He has a good match-up this week and should perform well against the Niners.
  • RB Elijah McGuire (New York Jets) – The Jets are just trying to get out of this season with all their franchise players in piece. They realize that rookie QB Sam Darnold is a bit overwhelmed and want to put the offense on the backs of their running backs. McGuire has been pretty darn good since debuting in Week 9. He has a tough match-up against the Patriots, but should be the Jets running back with the most snaps.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars Defense & Special Teams – It’s been awhile since the Jaguars defense has been a solid recommendation. They are struggling and are really only being recommended due to their opponent (Buffalo). This might be one of the last weeks that a Jags defense is fantasy-relevant this season.
  • RB Theo Riddick (Detroit Lions) – Rookie RB Kerryon Johnson is dealing with a knee injury and Riddick should be the Lions running back you’d want on your roster. He has good hands and is dangerous on third-down. He has a tough match-up against the Bears on Thanksgiving, but he should be a nice safety net if Stafford feels the rush. He should have more than a half-dozen targets on Thursday.
  • WR D.J. Moore (Carolina Panthers) – Moore can be inconsistent, but he has a very nice schedule coming up. He plays teams like Tampa Bay and New Orleans soon, whose pass defenses are weak. This week’s match-up against Seattle isn’t too bad either. Moore is a speedy receiver that is getting open against some pretty good defenders.
  • TE Jack Doyle (Indianapolis Colts) – Everyone went out and added TE Eric Ebron before last week’s game, but they were beyond disappointed in his output. Ebron didn’t even register a single target. I told you last week that Doyle is the tight end you want in Indy. He has a good match-up this week (Miami) and could find the end zone.
  • TE Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Now that TE O.J. Howard is going on injured-reserve, Brate should fall into the mix of being owned in all leagues. He’s a very good receiver, but does struggle with blocking. I still think he plays nearly all game as the Bucs need a kick in the pants on offense. Howard was a go-to target for Winston and Brate will fill that hole.
  • Dallas Cowboys Defense & Special Teams – The Cowboys face the Redskins on Thanksgiving. Washington is without QB Alex Smith, who suffered a nasty broken ankle/leg last week. The Redskins offense was already pretty weak and if the Cowboys can stop RB Adrian Peterson, I doubt QB Colt McCoy can do a lot. Dallas is a good fantasy defense this week.
  • WR Tre’Quan Smith (New Orleans Saints) – The Saints have been on the hunt for a solid #2 wide receiver and he has been on the roster this entire time. Smith had his best game as a pro against the Eagles last week. Smith is probably the fourth-best option on offense, but the Saints are red hot. There are plenty of targets to go around on such an awesome offense.
  • RB Josh Adams (Philadelphia Eagles) – I’ve listed Adams on this list as a deep league play a few times and he graduated into an every league flex play. The Eagles running back corps have been banged up and Adams went from practice squad to their best running back option. He’s their most productive back and is doing the most with his touches. He was a stud at Notre Dame and has breakaway speed. He has a decent match-up this week as the Giants come to Philly.
  • WR Marquise Goodwin (San Francisco 49ers) The Niners are sticking with QB Nick Mullens this week against the Bucs. He is developing some good chemistry with WR Marquise Goodwin, who was a nice second-half fantasy receiver last year. The Bucs have a very friendly pass defense and he should be open plenty on Sunday.

SIT’EM

  • WR Jarvis Landry (Cleveland Browns) – Landry’s role in Cleveland’s offense has dipped since they fired head coach Hue Jackson. He only had 22 receiving yards in his last game. The Browns face the Bengals on Sunday and their pass defense is better than people think. The Browns are a better team if they fun the ball more and that means less targets for Landry…so I’d sit him this week.
  • RB Dalvin Cook (Minnesota Vikings) – Cook was not his usual form last week. He played the entire game, but only ran for 12 yards on nine carries. He doesn’t have a very good match-up this week either (Packers). Minnesota could turn to RB Latavius Murray more this week if Cook struggles like he did against the Bears.
  • QB Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) – I’ve listed Stafford here a lot lately. He’s had five-straight stinkers and he is lost without WR Golden Tate. He faces the Bears on Thanksgiving and could have a very rough day.
  • RB Phillip Lindsay (Denver Broncos) – Lindsay had a great game last week against the Chargers. He rushed for two touchdowns and was a factor in the passing game as well. He had a tough match-up this week against the Steelers. I’d keep him on your bench this week.
  • WR Calvin Ridley (Atlanta Falcons) – Ridley was a touchdown-scoring machine early this season, but his play has been inconsistent since. The Saints can be passed on, but Ridley is dealing with a thigh injury. He may get some targets, but I’m not sold on how effective he will be on Thursday.
  • RB Mike Davis (Seattle Seahawks) – Rookie RB Rashaad Penny had a breakout performance in Week 10, but followed that up with a so-so performance. RB Chris Carson was the Seattle running back to get the most work. Davis is now third on the depth chart for the Seahawks. There are other running backs out there with more upside.
  • TE Kyle Rudolph (Minnesota Vikings) – Rudolph hasn’t benefited from the addition of QB Kirk Cousins. He’s a talented tight end, but for some reason, Cousins isn’t looking for him. He has had trouble staying healthy over his career and the one season he has played every game, he isn’t being used very much. I’d rather have TE Vance McDonald or TE Austin Hooper this week.
  • Philadelphia Eagles Defense & Special Teams – On paper, the Eagles match-up against the Giants would be good for Philly’s defense. They were destroyed by the Saints last week and need a game to get their swagger back. Well, the Giants are a much harder team to defend than people think. I don’t like the Eagles defense this week.
  • QB Andy Dalton (Cincinnati Bengals) – I don’t like Dalton when he doesn’t have TE Tyler Eifert or WR A.J. Green…and he doesn’t have either right now. He faces the Browns, who have a better than average pass defense. There are fifteen quarterbacks I’d start over Dalton this week.
  • WR Christian Kirk (Arizona Cardinals) – Kirk had a nice run as a sleeper wide receiver this season, but he is only becoming fantasy-relevant when he gets in the end zone. Arizona’s quarterback play hasn’t been good, so that’s more at fault here than anything.
