Purdue were one of the preseason favorites to win the Big Ten this season. They accomplished that goal, but fell short in the conference tournament. I thought they deserved a higher seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Vermont went undefeated in the America East conference. Head coach John Becker will be getting a lot of phone calls this offseason and will have a shot to lead a bigger program.

The Purdue Boilermakers were among the cream of the crop in the Big Ten. They have one of the best rebounders in the nation in Caleb Swanigan. He is also a great passer from the low-post. He can find the open man when he’s being double-teamed in the paint. I thought Purdue were going to win the Big Ten tournament, but lost in overtime to Michigan, the eventual winner. Purdue is one of my picks to make the Elite Eight this season.

The Vermont Catamounts is not the normal #13 seed. They haven’t lost since mid-December. Freshman Anthony Lamb could be a giant killer. They will not be an easy first-round game for Purdue to run through. They are a well-coached team and disciplined.

Vermont will hang with Purdue in the first-half, but I have my money on Purdue pulling away late in the game.

Prediction: #4 Purdue Boilermakers
