2016 March Madness: #4 California vs #13 Hawaii

The Pac 12 was arguably the most competitive power conference in college basketball this year. There wasn’t a single team that ran away with the conference because it was so deep. California was a team that started playing its best basketball at the right time.

The Big West Conference is usually only a single-bid conference in the NCAA Tournament. Hawaii ran through it and went on to win the conference tournament.

Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.

The California Golden Bears have a pair of fabulous freshman, Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb. They have came into their own in the last two months. They play well with upperclassmen Tyrone Wallace, Jordan Mathews and Jabari Bird. I speak very highly of the Pac 12. I’ve watched so many of their conference games and was entertained by how competitive the games were this year. Many will say that Cal doesn’t deserve a #4 seed, but I think they are properly seeded. The Golden Bears are a legit team and I think they could have a long run.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors come into the tournament with an impressive 27-5 record.  Many smaller conference and mid-major teams have came into the NCAA Tournament with impressive records, but most have been empty. Hawaii may not have big marquee wins, but they did push Oklahoma and only lost by three points. I hate teams that their most marquee win is actually a loss, but that’s the case for Hawaii.

Hawaii is a trendy upset pick. They are a very good team, but the upside for California is too great for me to ignore. The Golden Bears could make give Kansas a run for their money if they meet in the Sweet Sixteen.

Prediction: #4 California Golden Bears
